KAY531 -> How Do You Meet Other Singles? (1/31/2008 10:48:02 AM)

Like some people, i have problems meeting other singles, mainly because of the area in which I live. I live in New York, but a very bad part of it. The town is very dangerous (well, its not super bad, but it is bad in its way).

My church (Roman Catholic) do not have singles events or anything. And I do not believe a lot of the parishes in my area do either. And as far as coffee shops, I have not seen many either, well at least not ones to meet singles or something.

How would you meet local singles if you were in my position?
I mean, you might be able to relate. if you can, please feel free to share your thoughts and advice.

Thanks

I've met cool people on the net, and also through travel (mission trips, bible retreats, church picnics, etc). don't be afraid to step out of your routine.

I don't meet other singles. I meet women who are in relationships! Why do they keep throwing signals out like that?! Where are all the single women?

When I find a nest of 'em, I'll let u know!

I say if there is no singles group, make one! If you are in a town with multiple parishes, then it's probably big enough to have other singles feeling the same way. Try setting up an event and get it advertised in the bulletins of some of the other churches. Then, see who shows up! Good luck finding other singles....

Hey, a Singles Bible Study might be a good idea!? I'm glad I thought of that... I might just do this! [:D]

I feel your pain Kay! I think that it's hard to meet Christian singles just about everywhere... I work at a college & seminary and you'd think that would be a great place to meet wonderful Christian guys, BUT most are way too young for me or are engaged/already married!

Good ideas! Also, there are Christian single's cruises occasionally, especially if you're willing to step outside of Catholicism.

I've met other Christian singles at conferences and a church that's not close to home. There was a lady I worked with several years ago who was in a leadership position at her church's single's group, so I considered getting involved there. Also, a cousin invited me to her church's single's event where I met a few more people.

There are more single adults than ever before, but they lead very diverse lives. Find something you're interested in and get involved. If you're interested, perhaps other singles are interested, too.

Oh, and learn how to just go up to people and start conversations - at a grocery store line, at the gas station, at a concert... anywhere. Yep, it's outside of most of our comfort zones, but it's a skill we should all learn.

RubySparkles -> RE: How Do You Meet Other Singles? (1/31/2008 5:19:10 PM)

I just emailed a church I used to go to which has better networking opportunities to see if they'd let me join in. I also emailed someone else about some Christian walking holiday in May. I don't even know who I'd go on the holiday with, if I can afford it....I don't know. Just trying to be proactive [8|] Been single for 10 years [&o]

crystalblue -> RE: How Do You Meet Other Singles? (2/1/2008 2:54:06 AM)

I just throw myself at them. Works every time j/k.

Actually I don't care anymore. It's fun to have a bunch of friends in the same stage of life as you with the same values, but in some churchs, that sometimes isn't realisitic just because of size.
I've been in two very large churchs - the last one had 20,000 officially and 40,000 (I think) unoffically and most people seemed to be in the 20/30 something category. Massive youth based church basically.
Anyway, when I first went there, I have to say that my eyes lit up like a kid in a candy store. Guys everywhere.
But yeah. It wasn't the right church for me and the joke ended up being on me, because although I stayed there for two years, I probably met around 3 single guys over the entire time. lol. I've known more then that in churchs of 60.
So my motto now is, stop worrying about it and just keep praying and trust God. (I mean I was trusting him before that, but you know, being in that church made it easier for him to hook me up) [8|]

(In case he needed my help) [:)]

sunluvingirl -> RE: How Do You Meet Other Singles? (2/1/2008 7:51:13 AM)

Then you have to go to Harfod Co. We seem to have an abundance of single men here. They all fight over the one or two pretty, single, christian women.

*packs up to move*

What's funny is I live in an area where there are 4 military bases within 100 miles of me and I work on one of the largest in the Air Force. You'd think there would be an abundance of single Christian guys right? Well, Christian guys is right. But they all married right out of high school! Gah! Back to the drawing board...

WalkingwithHim2 -> RE: How Do You Meet Other Singles? (2/1/2008 10:20:50 AM)

I guess I have to move to Harford cuz there isn't any in Northern IL[:@]

Grace-N-Mercy -> RE: How Do You Meet Other Singles? (2/1/2008 10:52:52 AM)

A while back, we had a thread on this topic -- you can see it HERE. In the OP, there is a link to a map listing where all the singles are.

In my area, there are more single men than there are women. [sm=funny.gif]

mutinywxgirl -> RE: How Do You Meet Other Singles? (2/1/2008 10:54:22 AM)

I don't remember = was it Christian single men/women on the map?

never mind - no, it's just singles in general. Would be curious about the same with Christian Singles......

WalkingwithHim2 -> RE: How Do You Meet Other Singles? (2/1/2008 11:12:09 AM)

There are plenty of single men around here since I'm very near Chicago BUT there are not many CHRISTIAN single men.

broyce1981 -> RE: How Do You Meet Other Singles? (2/1/2008 11:39:01 AM)

OK, I've confirmed the Christian singles are not here. I just did some research and found that 2.7 % of people in my county attend evangelical churches. Those don't give me good odds of finding somebody. [&o]

I was speaking to a fellow Marylander. By Harford Co, I meant Harford County.
