ha i wouldn't talk about steriods in this thread ... it is allowable to accuse players of this crime without any proof in this forum and has happened in recent weeks ... no one gets a pass, there was no testing ... junior is certainly injury prone (yes he's reckless on defense) and not every bulks up who is using performance enhancing drugs ... so some ridiculous claim can be made about any player ... griffey is great wth the fans and great for baseball!

uncabeeil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/10/2008 10:15:38 AM)

Just my opinion, but that post was unnecessary and more than a little snarky.

iwillfearnoevil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/10/2008 1:40:43 PM)

it truly is a sad when people post baseless accusations of others committing illegal crimes with no evidence but that is permissable in this thread unfortunately ... i didn't even go that far ... he may be clean, but we'll never know ... unfortunately this whole era is tainted and there's obviously no way to know as no drug testing occurred until very recently ... way after griffey hit most of his home runs

1) That was weeks ago, get over it.
2) I have no control over what gets posted in this thread, otherwise your previous post would have been deleted.
3) That was weeks ago, get over it.
4) This isn't a thread to discuss the Mitchell Report. That one is over in Current Events somewhere.
5) That was weeks ago, get over it.
6) You spelled permissible wrong.

iwillfearnoevil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/10/2008 3:23:43 PM)

ouch ... but griffeys previous 597 homeruns were weeks ago too ... i wasn't the one bringing performance enhancing drugs into the griffey jr discussion ... that started before my post and i think even before your post ...

noblesinger -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/11/2008 8:52:37 AM)

I'm the one that brought it up, and proudly! Since Junior has been in the Majors, he's been the picture of clean play - and I think that includes his bloodstream! Has he failed a drug test since they insitituted the mandatory ones? NOPE! And if you'll check your precious "Mitchell Report," his name ain't there!! So, to borrow a phrase from my Joisey buddy, "Get over it!"

If I could make a suggestion, fearnoevil - find another sport to follow if you're going to be so cynical about baseball.

iwillfearnoevil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/11/2008 10:36:32 AM)

have you read the story this week about congress calling out selig and fehr for giving misleading information? over 104 players tested positive in 2003 while 12 failed the drug test in 2004. however mlb hid the fact that testing did not occur for most of 2004 season and records were destroyed so the full extent is not known. these 100 plus players are who congress wants to question. this is even separate from the mitchell report which names 89. i'm not so sure if it's a matter of cynicism but rather realize there is no way to distinguish clean milestones from tainted ones due to lack of testing. i don't know how one could make determination of every player if they were clean or not. as to the the mitchell report being precious or mine, it's already been argued in this thread that it's not a complete list of players taking performance enhancing drugs. i'm not naive enough to think only 30ish active players in mlb were taking them.

btw there have been rumors for years that steroids were used by players on the more prominent mariner playoff teams and when extended drug testing occurred in 2005, they led all organizations with most failed drug tests. also at least 7 mariners from 1998 & 1999 have been caught either admitting to using or purchasing ... so there was rampant use of steroids and ampheteamines among the teams players those years that griffey was still in seattle (not my words, former mariner players). what i find ironic is couple of the players said steroids didn't work and wish they had focused on training instead, oops!
all i can say is that nothing would surprise me.

uncabeeil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/11/2008 12:22:13 PM)

I repeat, this thread is not for debating the Mitchell Report or the steroids controversy in general. Please don't make me get a moderator to come in and start deleting posts. If you want to argue about who's clean or not, take it here.

iwillfearnoevil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/11/2008 12:44:57 PM)

a moderator has already approved of steroid talk in this thread. my posts are not about the mitchell report altho i cited it. if someone wants to make a big deal out of the fact they believe someone has never used performance enhancing drugs then someone else can raise counterpoint saying we'll never know who was or wasn't "clean". noblesinger brought drug use into this thread, i merely responded to it :)

Yankee Nut -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/12/2008 7:59:25 PM)

My Yanks got smoked last night 8-4 to the A's. Hope the bats come out swinging tonight

iwillfearnoevil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/12/2008 8:14:45 PM)

yankees west coast games + me = sleepwalking thru work

iwillfearnoevil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/13/2008 3:26:51 PM)

yay for instant replay

uncabeeil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/13/2008 3:30:42 PM)

Why?

iwillfearnoevil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/13/2008 3:36:47 PM)

sorry i was so excited i forgot to link story: http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=423127

Major League Baseball wants to implement instant replay by Aug. 1, two officials in the umpires union told USA Today.

The officials said MLB approached the World Umpires Association on Wednesday to request that replay be used on "boundary calls," which would include calls on whether a potential home run clears an outfield wall or is fair or foul.

uncabeeil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/13/2008 3:44:01 PM)

Well, it's cheaper than hiring and training umpires to call a game by the rules. [8|]

iwillfearnoevil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/13/2008 3:54:27 PM)

lol :)

Nobody's perfect and the cameras have a much better view than the umps in most cases. I'd rather have the call right.

I'll go one step further, I think they should use an electronic device to call balls and strikes. Well not really but its shameful that each ump has their own strike zone.

Which brings us back to my previous post.

iwillfearnoevil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/16/2008 2:05:17 PM)

lately stolen base calls (or stretching single into double, etc) have been annoying me, it just seems there is so many ways an ump can blow a call depending on where the tag is etc ... now that could really slow the game down tho ...

Roberta_ -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/17/2008 2:52:47 AM)

My dad was given tickets for seats right behind home plate for a Giants game a few weeks ago. He decided to take his wife instead of me.
My sister has to go to a Giants game on Wednesday. She's hates sports! It's work related. She's being tortured with box seats.
Man, I wish I had to endure such torture!!

Such a terrible load to carry. Should we pray for her in her tribulations? [8D]

uncabeeil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/17/2008 12:17:59 PM)

Well, the Mets finally pulled the trigger on Willie and his coaching staff. But I see hitting coach Howard Johnson is still around. With one of the worst offenses in the league, especially with men in scoring position, this is surprising. Now it's a wait and see what happens situation. At least new manager Jerry Manuel can cuss at the mostly latin lineup in their native tongue.

iwillfearnoevil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/17/2008 2:51:07 PM)

i'm not a mets fan, altho randolph was my fave player growing up, and why i played second base in little league .. i don't see manuel as being that different than randolph in style (not saying he was bad choice, he's just similiar i think ) ... i think the firing was handled badly ... not sure why the mets can't fire anyone without messing that up ...

uncabeeil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (6/18/2008 8:12:20 AM)

They can't do anything right. You're right, Jerry Manuel is very much like Randolph or else he wouldn't have been the bench coach. What they should have done is fire the pitching and hitting coaches first. As much as I think Willie screwed up, his coaches and his players let him down. I hope he goes on to a hugely successful career like another ired Mets manager who is now wearing Dodger blue.
