the IUI was not successful. I have a cyst. I need to take birth control pills again

thank you both.
I took it fairly well today, since I was fairly certain (from my chart) that I did not actually ovulate this month. Plus, I must say, I love love love my nurse practioner. She's just very good, and we were chatting quite a bit today.

thank you all. It is really disappointing.
Now there's the question of where to go from here.
The nurse practioner told me that the doctor will again mention the shot, which apparently is a shot of HCG to force the egg to release (and therefore I would ovulate) instead of becoming a cyst. This all seems well and good, and the right thing to do, but there are other questions involved. Mainly, I would then be doing clomid days 3-7, have an ultrasound on about day 14, have the shot (theoretically) on day 14-16ish, then if we did an IUI they would do that 36 hrs after the shot, then I would take my progesterone. Why does everything have to be so complicated, and expensive?? oh yeah, the question is... do we want to do an IUI again just because we are doing the shot? Do we want to try a cycle without the IUI and still doing the shot? The nurse practioner said that the doctor would recommend an IUI just because everything else is lined up, and it would have a greater chance of success, plus we're already spending all that money, so.... that's what the doctor would recommend.... in her opinion.

I don't want to be Super Unhelpful Hattie here (been there myself on the TTC thing for years and had plenty of things like "Just RELAX -- it will happen" -- as if I didn't relax -- ugh, you know -- anyone who tries to conceive for a bit gets all the same comments from people...)  Oh, and when we did conceive, people said "Oh, you finally relaxed! SEE!!!" (Makes you want to smack them upside the head.) 
But let me just throw this back out there for ANYBODY who is TTC. I did succeed, after 4.5 years of trying, in getting pregnant in June of 2007, our baby boy is now 6 months old. This is not commentary on what other people should do, but for me...
My homeopathic-type chiropractor had wondered if I were insulin-resistant due to the PCOS-like symptoms I had. One thing in the food sensitivity (NOT allergy, SENSITIVITY) testing she did on me was that my body reacted to grains like wheat and oat, and gluten.
I cut out all gluten from my diet for 4 months (with about 6 cheats total, no kidding), and when I went back on eating breads, I bled like a crazy woman. I wasn't due to start bleeding then but I bled and bled and bled and bled....so I knew there was definitely a connection for me between too many breads and my ovaries/uterus/reproductive cycle.
Once back on bread I just didn't add it in the way I had before. I still ate breads, I just would cut waaaaaay back on them. My ovaries get so mad at me, they do not like bread (my little sister's ovaries don't like bread either, she can feel twinges of pain in her ovary when she eats highly processed breads like Olive Garden's breadsticks).
All I'm saying is really cutting back on gluten/bread is a huge part of how I got pregnant. I know it is. I'm not allergic to bread, but there is a huge link between PCOS-type symptoms and glutens.
Take what you want from my story, but I will tell you that I am for-sure positive that the lack of gluten in my system (there was some, but not enough to inhibit ovulation) led to my ovulation which led to my conception which led to my son being born 6 months ago.
Worth every sandwich I didn't have.
I only throw it out there because it's non-traditional, something the doctors either don't know or don't tell you, and when TTC, if something works -- why not share it? We never did use Clomid or any medical resources to conceive, and I was 41 when I conceived so I really felt like our chances were nil of ever succeeding. Guess I was wrong.
Just wanted to add that in there. I know I've brought it up before in the threads and had people immediately tell me "I'm not allergic to bread"....yes, I know...I'm not either....but I'm telling you -- research the link between gluten and insulin resistance and ovaries...it might be worth a try as long as you're trying other stuff anyway?
Okay, I feel like I've said too much. There's the info. Backing out now.
I do pray for successful conceptions for all of you. Having been there for so long, I really, truly feel your pain. Makes me emotional to think of your struggles. I pray you don't have to wait long.

Jeanie, I believe you are so right here. The research my homeopathic-chiropractor-assistant mom has done on the inflammatory effects of grains is amazing (and it's because of the massive use of pesticides, which contain hormones, namely estrogen, and the fact that it's all so highly processed now). There really is something to it.

Jeanie, I had some issues with my reproductive system and have found some resolution through reduction of wheat especially. I completely agree with you, too. I'm not allergic to wheat either, but it is bad for me.

I have *considered*, but not yet tried, having extremely low sugar/carbs until I ovulate, then backing off of that a bit, and allowing a little more. It's just so hard not to have much at all sometimes...

Jeanie, I'm in total agreement! I swear up and down that it's how we "got" Gabby and I certainly have a family history of PCOS and infertility. Gabby is one of the only children born in the past several(3-4) generations of women who we suspect had PCOS. Both of my aunts have it, and even with several rounds of IVF one of them never conceived.
But yes, no gluten/low carb, plus cinnamon and exercise is the "prescription" that makes my body work.

I'm officially sick... I saw my doctor this morning. I noticed on Sat. morning that I had white spots on my tonsils, and I had laryngitis. Today I called in sick because the white spots are not going away, neither is the laryngitis or the cough, or the runny/stuffy nose... and pain. So, the doctor looked at me, and prescribed me antibiotics, and took a culture. If I'm not feeling tons better by next Mon. I am to call him.
then at the end he said, "are you taking birth control pills?" I said, "well, yes, but only..." and he interrupted to say "make sure that you use a back up method or you could become pregnant, ok?" I said, "um, ok" Then he added, "well, you only have to do that for the 10 days of the antibiotics." I said, "ok"
I had already explained to the nurse that the only reason I was taking them was because I have an ovarian cyst at the moment, and he gave me those to hopefully help it go away. I knew it was in my chart, as I watched her write it in... so I wasn't going to explain again. =) I love my doctor, but I totally am not using a back up method since we want a baby anyway. =)
I just wonder... will the birth control pills help the cyst go away if I am on antibiotics? I know... I should call the doctor (ob/gyn) about that... but since I was told (twice now) that the theory on birth control pills is that they *might* or *might not* help cysts to go away... they'll just tell me to keep my appointment on Friday to see if the cyst is gone or not.
I have a feeling it is gone... as I had some (unrelated to anything else) spotting yesterday. I also had some pain yesterday.

interesting that I was the last one to post in either the struggling to conceive thread or this thread... =) It's been a while. =)
I went to the doctor today for the follow-up ultrasound, and the cyst is thankfully gone. YAY!!!
I have also decided to take a month (or so) off from fertility treatments. We'll see how it goes. =)

). No first grandbaby for us (so we thought) then I get pregnant a few months later in Feb. Then our little October baby came in JULY, SIL/BIL baby-due July 28, came in August. I give up on planning ANYTHING. 
, but it does it's job. I went from a 72 day "cycle" to a 45 day one and then to 30-35 days. 
I am 6 weeks pregnant! It is truly a miracle because DH and I only BD'd twice even close to ovulation. I guess it was enough! (Now, if he could get over this cold so we can BD just for fun....) 
Then he apologized once I snapped at him to explain it. I feel like he's a pretty selfish person too often. His work takes priority over everything, myself included. Geeze, he's sick and needs to be sleeping and he was up til 1:30 last night working!!!
