ORIGINAL: YvonneW When Erwin talks about his "non-profit" organization, which "Awaken" is he talking about? I've been posing this question to the leadership of Mosaic and "Awaken" for a year now and I still haven't gotten a definitive answer. To see what I mean, go to the California Business Portal at: California Business Portal and type in the word Awaken in the box for corporations. This will bring up a list of registered California corporations. Near the top of this list are FOUR separate corporations tied to Erwin McManus that use the word "awaken" in their title: Here they are in order of the year in which they were incorporated: 2002 Awaken Center for Creativity Agent for Service of Process: Erwin McManns (This is a mispelling but I have researched this corporation and can prove it is the same Erwin Raphael McManus.) 2003 Awaken International Agent for Service of Process: Erwin R. McManus 2005 Awaken Agent for Service of Process: Sealy M. Yates (Yates and Yates, LLP. This is Erwin's literary agent.) 2007 Awaken Humanity Agent for Service of Process: Eric Bryant (He is Erwin's number two man and the lead pastor of Mosaic, L.A.) If you go back to the interview with Infuze Magazine, you'll see that it was written in 2006 so my question is: Which of these "Awakens" was Erwin talking about? If you follow the link to the California Business Portal you'll see why I don't believe he was talking about the first two "Awakens." He couldn't have been talking about Awaken Humanity because it didn't exist in 2006. That leaves "Awaken" but this corporation doesn't show up on the California State Attorney General's List of Charitable Trusts. To check this out please go to: Office of the Attorney General, State of California Click on "Charities Search", and enter Awaken in the box marked "Organization Name." So, which one is it? Yvonne W. Oh, I can understand your confusion. In the interview Erwin very clearly states that 'awaken' has four separate branches. Legally, for them to each be responsible for the monies that go in and out, they must do it this way. One of his 'awakens' is the film branch and one is a literary branch and another is the teaching/conference one. Erwin would be referring to all of them in his term 'Awaken' as they all have the same goal, but focus on separate areas to influence. At the time of the interview they could have been operating all the branches, but had not yet registered all of them. That often happens. The Mosaic leadership could have been operating the other focus areas under the Mosaic banner or under one of the other 'awaken' banners before separating it out.
