I enjoyed most of my classes in college. Western Civ was not among the ones I enjoyed.

Both history classes I took in college were U.S. Hisotry classes. Those were cool.
I'm looking forward to my classes in the fall. All sound very interesting. Not looking forward so much to all the homework 18 units will mean, but I'm sure I can bellyache my way through it

The older I get, the more history is interesting to me.
I watched "the War" on PBS with my mom and I didn't remember ever being taught any of that stuff in high school. I'm sure I was taught some of it, I just don't remember.
While we were at the museum yesterday, we kinda stumbled across a play (two people) about an anthropologist and the 'spirit' of a "panther-people" shaman. It was pretty cool...the panther-people were pre-aztec nomad types who frequented the caves along our Pecos River Valley. There are paintings still on the walls there from them.
We used to 'camp' along the Pecos River when I was a kid and it was a blast exploring the caves.

I took a sign language class. WHN is an interpreter for the deaf, so I thought it would be cool to learn a little more about it. I found I picked up much more watching them interpret in church than I did in class. Not sure why that was. It was still a fun class, though, and not a lot of homework.

I find the same thing, Beckey. In one of my psych classes, we discussed that...it has a name, but I can't remember what it is. People eventually want to know where we've really come from, not as far as birth, but our history and what made the place we live what it is. I know I used to never be interested in things like war documentaries, but I find them very interesting now. And I enjoy hearing some of the older people talk about the past when before I used to hate that.

Certainly I have more interest in history now than I did in school. Part of that can be blamed on bad teachers though. The teachers were more interested in memorization than having a passion for what was being taught.

I agree. I think that's a lot of the reason why young people hate history. Most courses are taught by monotone, boring teachers who can't make it come alive when they present it. I was lucky and had a couple of great teachers who were very passionate about it and interesting to listen to.

I sooooo need school to start. I am bored out of my mind! WHN is laughing because I keep looking into closets and drawers to see if anything needs to be organized. Oy.
Early Saturday morning I get to go shopping with some underprivileged kids for school clothes. How fun! I'll have a child assigned to me(I'm really hoping for a girl) and help her shop for school clothes. The store is opening three hours early just for them and giving them an additional 15% off their already sale priced stuff. I think they get $100 to spend, and that will go far in this department store if they shop right. I had forgotten about it and just got the reminder call today. I'm so excited to get involved with this

How did the shopping go, Karlie?
I'm getting ready to buckle down for some homework today. I have a map exercise and some terms to write about. It shouldn't take too long, but it won't ever get done if I don't start.

Hey Batman!
Shopping went well and was a lot of fun. The place was insane though! It was quite a big event. They had a men's business group that came out and cooked breakfast for everyone so we could get acquainted with our kids before shopping, then we hit the store. I actually had two kids..everyone else had one. One of mine was developmentally delayed and they wanted her cousin to be with her. She was a sweetheart though...all smiles and sunshine. She never said a word(I don't think she can speak and be understood by anyone but family), but she'd point when she saw something she liked, and make a  face when she didn't like something. It was a hoot. They were so fun trying on their new clothes. Both of them just adored their new clothes and were so proud. The older one just chattered non-stop about "how cool" everyhting was and that her clothes were going to match, and the little one just lit up and nodded her head smiling when she liked what she tried on. It was precious! We finished with clothes, socks and underwear, then we hit the shoes...oh yea...they love shoes! I steered them(reluctantly so) away from the sandals which caught their eye, to the tennis shoes since they needed school shoes, and we found some each girl liked. The little one found some that were white patent with glitter pink shoe strings and she fell in love. I won't even tell you what I ended up paying above her gift card so she could have them  But when she tried them on(before I had a chance to look at the price) she held her little foot up with just the hugest smile ever and pointed and nodded. I knew just how she felt...lol! I saw the price and knew it pushed us well over her limit, but I couldn't tell her no, so we got them. They were so cute and she deserved something special.
Anyway, it was chaotic and hectic, but it was so much fun and I was glad to have been a part of it. It's so sweet how grateful those kids are and how thrilled they were with a whole bag of new clothes just for them.
