Maybe he'd rather have a Fischer-Price.

Well, since this thread seems to have a lot of traffic I thought I would post a prayer request of mine here. This week we went on a trip to see my brother graduate from Amry Basic Training. Today was/is our day to get back home, except I read something wrong and we missed our flight. [:o] We were able to get on a flight from where we are now to our layover city, but the flight from our layover city to home is currently full and we are on standby. Will you please say a prayer that we are able to get on the standby flight? If not, we may be stuck in our layover city overnight. [:o] Thanks.

Praying Catherine. (((((Catherine)))))

Praying Catherine! I had the "joy" of flying standby once too. It's frustrating! Praying you get on a flight very soon!

Steve, WHN saw your guitar photos and kept making me enlarge them and flip back and forth from the pictures so he could get a better look...lol. He liked it and said it would cost quite a bit for one like that now.

LOL, I can just see him closely examining it. They do go for quite a bit of money now. I bought it in pieces for $200. They guy I bought it from had it completely taken apart.

We got on the standby flight! Woohoo! Thanks for praying!

Well, I did wire the switch backwards, but it works. I also had to take it in to get the neck straightened. That cost about $150 I think. Probably twice that today.

karlie -> RE: Karlie's Kompound for Komrades (11/30/2008 2:50:06 PM)

Catherine, glad you got on the flight [:)]

WHN had that happen to his prized Ovation about 20 years ago. My brother had borrowed the guitar for a couple of days because he wanted to see if he wanted one similar. Never the most careful with things, he left it in his car overnight. [&:]The heat/cold change bowed the neck and WHN had to send it off to get fixed. He showed incredible restraint not killing my brother over that one! It was the first and very last time he ever loaned out any of his guitars!

I played hooky from church this morning. I have to be there this afternoon/evening and had to take some time for homework today. I've already gotten in about 4 hours of homework.

I also got brave and whacked about 4 inches off my hair this morning! [:o] It feels great!

shawke -> RE: Karlie's Kompound for Komrades (11/30/2008 3:21:23 PM)

EEK! That would infuriate me if someone did not give due care to something I lent to them.

That's a lot of hair to whack off, Karlie! Was that enough to donate?

I have to write up some financial statements, but that will be easy because I just have to transfer numbers over to the proper forms.

I woke up this morning with a layer of snow! It's finally looking Christmas-like here. I'm happy with the snow as long as it's not -20 or snowing by the foot.

Ha ha, when I logged on, I knew you'd stayed home from church 'cause we're in the same time zone, lol (as indicated in our avatars)..I stayed home too, not to play hooky, but because I'm still sick. [:'(]I've been sick almost the whole month..first it was that womanly time which is always a killer for me..then I got the cold that I have always gotten following that time for a year now..then I got that bug that's been going around the whole U.S., and after two weeks, I'm still not over it. yech[:'(] And this was my birthday month, too. I am starting to feel like a hermit.

Oh, he was sooooo mad! He takes such good care of his instruments and babies them like crazy, so he was not a happy camper!

quote:

Nah. I think you have to have at least 6 or 8 inches to do that. I didn't want it THAT short! It's still past my shoulders a little, so I didn't go totally crazy on it.

[&o] I want snow for Christmas! Oh well, I'm just happy it's finally fall and getting colder! 80-90 degrees at Christmas just would not feel right.

bootsNspurs_mod -> RE: Karlie's Kompound for Komrades (11/30/2008 3:39:42 PM)

For Locks of Love, you have to have at least 10 inches (the shortest part of the hair has to be that long) for them to make a wig with it. They say that they will accept shorter hair but are unable to make wigs with it, so they sell it to help to fund everything else. They also will not accept hair that has been highlighted / bleached, although they will accept colored hair. (I looked into donating but mine had been highlighted.)

Locks of Love official guidelines for donating hair.

Same here! And I had spent a year growing it just for that purpose! I said to myself that next time I'd do the research first.

Hey Jewels and Boots!

Well, I'll never cut off 10 inches at once, so that leaves me out! Britt donated hers last year though. I think she cut off over a foot. [&:]

Okay, back to work for me. I've got to get this paper done today! I have another short one to write tomorrow, and 3 exams this week. Ick! But there is light at the end of the tunnel. Either that, or a train is coming hard and fast. We'll see which one!

Hi![sm=wave.gif]

That was nice of Brittany to donate her hair.
I hope you can get your work done.
LOL at the train comment.

bootsNspurs_mod -> RE: Karlie's Kompound for Komrades (11/30/2008 3:59:19 PM)

Jewels, yeah, I did something similar. I am going to try not to highlight it so that I can donate it next time. I had cut about 8 inches off last January, and I cut about 10 or 12 inches off last month. It had all been highlighted, though.

Hey Karlie! I think it's a light.... I'm praying it's a light, not a train! [;)]

awed -> RE: Karlie's Kompound for Komrades (12/1/2008 8:45:24 PM)

Evening all!! [sm=wave.gif]

Karlie, I am popping in to tell you that Shrek The Halls is on ABC tonight if you want to see the babies again. [:D]
The show was kinda cute!

Now, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is on. Not gonna watch the whole thing though.

karlie -> RE: Karlie's Kompound for Komrades (12/1/2008 9:01:19 PM)

awww, the Shrek babies are sooooo cute!! I'll watch it if I ever get this paper done.[&:] I'm having a time and a half getting past a certain point. It's not technically due until Thursday, but I need Wednesday to study for two exams, so I need to have it done. Oy.

I did watch the adoption special you mentioned...very enlightening, and sad. I have felt for a very long time that they don't prepare those kids or the parents for the language and culture barrier of foreign adoption. Plus, some of those kids never get the therapy and intervention they need...they just get filed into orphanages and never deal with what's happened to them. That is going to cause long term bonding issues as those families were dealing with. Very sad. [:(]
