michelle......i joined the farmersonly site last night. had 2 dozen roses and 3 emails this evening. that's more 'action' than i got on christian cafe! lol

Woo-Hoo, Kimberly! You and Michelle can swap recipes for canning preserves and quilt patterns, huh?

OK. Subject change.

Hey, everybody...I'm going to tell you all something, but PLEASSSSSE understand the spirit in which it is intended.

I got a little preachy on my other response to another thread just now, but I feel so passionately about this. Maybe this thread is a little better venue, though, to finish it up. So here goes:

About three years ago, I couldn't imagine ever being in love again, ever being loved. I was settling in to grieve that that (disastrous) part of my life might have been over for good.

Somehow, though, I decided to give it one last try. And I decided to give it the best try I could. Yes, I bought "Date Worth Keeping." No, I don't work for Cloud and Townsend, and no, I'm not getting kickbacks. But I read it and I did it and it did work. Person of Interest worked his way up to Man I'm Dating to all-out BoyFriend. And he is a date worth keeping.

PLEASE. Don't take this as bragging. Take it as it's intended: As encouragement to be intentional and proactive about taking responsibility for the parts of your life that God has made you responsible for while trusting God with the parts of your life that He wants to be responsible for.

It Could Happen To You.

Seriously.

Keep the faith,
Roxie

Roxie;

I haven't read the book, but I'd be interested in what Cloud and Townsend say are the things that God has made us responsible for. I recently got the lecture about "God can bring him to you" when I mentioned a possible change in churches to improve my chances of meeting someone. I would love to have a scriptural response for that.

Hey, guys. I've read the book and Henry Cloud actually has his lectures online. If you're interested, I could post them. Both Cloud & Townsend were single well into their 30's, so they know what they're talking about.

Sure, go ahead and post them. Are they, by any chance, downloadable? I could use something to listen to when I start my long thrice weekly treks to school soon...

HERE YA GO. This is the link to the "dating" channel... there are topical videos and Q&A sessions. I don't know if you can download them... that would be nice! I need stuff to listen to, too.

I dunno... LDR's are hard. I had one for well over a year. We were even talking marriage and all. There has to be a lot of trust and loyalty and I found out that he was not. Both people really have to be mature enough and truly committed to each other to have a successful LDR as they do take work and creativity.

I was quite burned by the experience and do not know if I would do it again.

Congratulations however, to those here who have had successful ones.

Thanks iwillfearnoevil and cute-n-sassy for the links. I've been watching them - they are good.

And it seems I started a little bit of a discussion concerning who moves (I peeked at this thread earlier in the week but didn't respond). Good points - I still feel that the man should take the initiative - but I can also totally see how the woman might be the person to move. For example, what if he owns a business and she has a more portable job? Seems like it would make more sense for her to move. I guess, as with anything else, these are individual preferences ...

This is true. You've got to be focused on the same goal and willing to work towards it together (even if you are hours apart). M and I spent our entire dating/engagement time long distance. I'd go see her once every three weeks or so and once or twice she came out to see me. She moved to be with me after the wedding.

You know I was visiting a church this morning and heard a testimony of a lady who moved to this state perusing a career in the broadcast industry. She also followed her heart and wanted a relationship, but that relationship compomised her faith in God so she broke it off, but the man never gave up and he shot her in the head.

Something to think about ladies, when you think about moving because you never know what danger is lurking. Best thing for people is to be careful and make sure that people are doing the right thing instead of emotions which will backfire.

Then again there are thousands who have moved and are now happily married.

If we only see the doom and gloom side we will end up paralyzed by fear. Not a good thing.

We need to do everything prayerfully and with our eyes wide open to see the truth. Yes there is a chance for bad to happen. But that chance is so small if we are careful that it's not worth worrying about.

In short you could just as easily get shot in the head by the neighbor or the mailman as by a guy across the country. KWIM?

Yeah, but John, did the bible tells us that we are to be wise as serphants correct?

As people says there are risks, this is true and I'm not knocking that, however too, we have to use common sense, the sense what God has given us when we deal with things like this. I mean, there are people who has been ripped off by something that is promised and never came thru because of a promise of marriage.

It not because of fear, but I have to make sure that it will work, not because of living on a fantasy which may or may not happen. I have to be real here.

True, The reason I felt compelled to respond however is that you seem to dwell on the negative but never mention the positive. Yes some have gotten ripped off. Others have found lasting love. Some have been in bad situations but others now live a life they only dreamed of before. Every discussion has two sides.

LOL Bug Lady......said like a true Spy!!!!!!!!!!

Gayle, I agree people need to be wise in their decisions, regardless if a relationship is long distance or not. Many people get burned by relationships. However, there is another side to that. Had I not moved, I would not be getting married. And, our relationship is based in Christ and is very healthy.

Each situation is very different because each person is different. Relationships are a huge risk, but they are worth it if you are smart and you are relying on God and have Godly accountability.

http://www.boundlessline.org/2008/11/gayharmony.html

Bringing this back to the front page to post the above link...in case you haven't heard. eHarmony buckled to the pressure.

As of last night I removed my subscription. I will be asking them to remove my profile as well.

Thank you for posting that link, Shallbe. I haven't read the article, but I heard the news and posted in the Current Events folder. It got closed immediately because apparently they didn't want to start a discussion of homosexuality in the news. That wasn't my point. My point was that eHarmony buckled and can no longer be considered a Christian site.

I wonder how many others will be removing their subscriptions, too.

Now I do not think that eharmony was a Christian site to start with. They already match people based on other religions as well.

Mike, you are right, but knowing that the CEO and visionary claims to be Christian and didn't have the guts to stand with scripture even if it meant he lost his business...that is a huge statement about his spiritual moorings and the moorings of the company.

I'm quite aware that choosing to remove my membership from eHarmony for this reason is somewhat inconsistent because I don't research each and everything I buy and decide whether or not to purchase them based on the company morals. However, under these very public circumstances, I feel that it is both a witness to Mr. Warren and eHarmony of how they should have met this challenge (i.e., be willing to make a sacrifice for the sake of the glory of Jesus Christ) and also a motivating factor, perhaps to Mr. Warren; if he sees that there are monetary consequences to the decisions he makes, perhaps it will encourage him as a Christian to maintain higher standards.

Encouraging other believers in their faith is one of our responsibilities as Christians.

So...

On a personal note, it has become very, very clear to me that I would never meet a compatible man on there. The only ones that wanted to talk to me were very unequally matched however careful the matching on the site claims, and the ones that I felt matched more closely were not interested in someone who looks like me. They only wanted physical beauty. From now on, I trust God to bring someone into my circle of relationships and activities. If He doesn't, so be it. I hate being single, but I can suffer that for the sake of Jesus Christ. Many people suffer much worse for His sake.

shallbe

You know Shallbe, the a scripture comes to mind, while I am not sure how exactly it applies here, I do think it is apt "narrow is the gate and wide is the path do destruction." And the Bible also talks about some of the best men of God doing evil in His sight and being punished accordingly as well.
