Praying for your mil to understand that it is time for her to be on her own again. I would think your wife would want this as much as you do . two families aren't meant to live together.I recently had to tell my son and his wife they had to move about a month ago .We are getting along much better now.Praise God for that.

I may have missed something here - but how is it that she even thought she had to move in in the first place? No young, healthy, normal pregnant lady needs that much care. If that is your only child, than even a new mom does not need that much help. I wish I had advice for you; but as a busy mom of 4 young children all I can say is send her my way - I will take her out of your hair for awhile. =)

Update:

My wife is more than aware of my feelings and stance on this issue. She agrees and says that she spoke to her mom - the MIL is leaving at the end of April.

She is going to be gone for a while and out of the country. I will just have to wait and see...

Also, thank you all for your advice, comments, suggestions, wisdom - please don't be shy about sharing it.

How long is "a while" and where will she be living when she comes back? Also, are her tickets purchased already - do they have a set return date or is it open? Where is all her stuff going to be stored while she is away? Might be an idea to have that all set in stone before she leaves, to spare you any problems when she comes back.

From the get go it will be at least 12-13 months.

and where will she be living when she comes back?

She says she is going to buy a house in Florida because she can't handle the cold here in our city.

She says she is going to buy them in early to mid-March. She is actually going to be in three different countries and one of them will probably end up being a very extended stay.

One way ticket.

In her soon to be new house in Florida.

I am sure she will be coming back to visit for a week or two, but with the new ministry opportunity that she announced to us on Saturday (it is huge) she will be busy for a good while.

Praise the Lord, He answers prayer.

Maybe it's wrong of me to be doubtful (lack faith in this) but I am not holding my breath on this... like Thomas, I will believe it when I see it. When she actually leaves, then I will know it's true.

I understand your hesitation to feel relief, earthless. I would be the same way. I pray she moves on with her ministry opportunity.

I think this will be a great opportunity for you and your wife to rely on each other in ways you didn't have to while MIL was around. Be there for your wife, care for each other, and tend to each other's needs. You get the milk for her, and she'll get the milk for you... .

Amen, Crankuis. I look forward to it, I love serving my wife and being all I can be for her. Because, Lord knows, she does the same for me and more.

Quite understandable. But we will pray it through! Keep us posted, OK?

What a nice man you are! Isn't God good? Much better for her to leave this way then you having to make her leave. Easier on your wife especially.

And in large part easier for the family, for the home. God knows I desire peace for my house, for my wife and now new son. I desire peace and grace, a place of rest and understanding. Which is why I have been trying to be so patient in and with this situation. Lord knows I am sincere in wanting the best for everyone involved.

I think you have been very patient and it takes a man of God to be like this .You have my vote and I don't think you are being mean .You and your wife need your time alone and I think that time has come. I pray for your MIL that she finds what she wants to do in her life because I don't feel like 61 is way over the hill since that is the same age that I am.

I am on tenterhooks here - it's almost the end of March, has your MIL bought her tickets?

Update!

Sorry for not checking back on this thread...

MIL told us yesterday that she is leaving the week after Mother's Day.

When's that? We already had Mother's Day here in the UK.

(and has she bought her ticket(s)?)

Mother's Day here in the U.S. is the second Sunday of May. And no, she hasn't bought the tickets yet.. but by knowing her and her ways.. I am more than 90% certain she will follow through.

OK, so she has already moved it back by a month?

I hope your 90%+ proves right.

Update - she bought her one way ticket yesterday. She leaves May 13 and says she will be gone till Feb of 2009, in time for our son's b-day. And that she will be coming back on a yearly basis, but never again for such a long stint.

What's odd is that I now know I am going to miss her. God does have a sense of humor.
