ORIGINAL: ta_mosquito I saw that one, DaveW, but is it not true that that command was also given to the Jews? It wasn't given at the Jerusalem council, but back when the Law was given, so it could be said to be for all Christians (Jewish origin and Gentile)? Actually, no. As our rabbi likes to point out, this may be worded exactly the same as certain commands under the Mosaic covenant but this is a fresh command under the New, and it is (in context) ONLY given to gentile believers. quote:
As for #20, basically, when do you think Christians should gather to worship? Of course, if you think there is no set day, then you've still got no answer. OK, I kinda hate to say this to a mod, but isn't that a topic for a one-stop thread?? But to answer the question: Jewish believers should be keeping a Saturday sabbath as the command is a sign between God and Israel forever. For Gentile believers there is no set day.

evidently, i too am a conservative - i scored 47 - with moderate leanings. curious, that...though how one applies or enacts or incarnates is not a real reflection of doctrinal stance i guess

33, conservative here. Though I agree with other here when they state that this test is leading and in some cases misleading or misguided. For example he criticizes Christians who don't observe a Saturday Sabbath but call for capital punishment. Your options for observing the Sabbath are either it is still in effect or was converted to our Sunday worship. He doesn't even consider the option that the Sabbath rest was a foreshadow of our rest from our works in Jesus Christ. So while I believe in the inerrant, God breathed, Holy Spirit inspired word of God it is not an exact science, it is not all black and white. Some of the texts are to be taken literally while others are symbolic.

I could not find an acceptable option to choose from, because some were too strict, too broad, or if one was closer, it did not hit the mark exactly. And if you choose one, how do you know that is a conservative, moderate or progressive position? Who makes these assumptions? I think, based on ones beliefs of what is considered conservative, moderate or progressive, can classify God with any of them. Well, to you God may be conservative, but to others, your beliefs may be considered something else. I think these terms are subjective.

But to answer the question: Jewish believers should be keeping a Saturday sabbath as the command is a sign between God and Israel forever. For Gentile believers there is no set day. Interesting. I looked it up in my study Bible, and I'll just quote it rather that reword it poorly (note on Acts 15:20): "James and the other leaders did not want the Gentiles to revel in their freedom in Christ, which could cause the Jewish believers to follow that same liberty and violate their consciences. So James proposed that the Gentiles abstain from 4 pagan, idolatrous practices that were a violation of the law of Moses so as not to offend the Jews." It goes on to note "what is strangled and from blood" as part of dietary restrictions, listing the following verses: Ge 9.4; Lv 3.17;7.26;17.12-14;19.26; Dt 12.16,23;15.23;1Sa 14.34; Eze 33.25.

They put it down as James' idea? That is so wrong. "It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and us..." It was GOD'S idea. And as to the last 2 being about dietary laws, the first one clearly is. Howver abstaining from "blood" can be taken a number of ways and to limit it to dietary makes it redundant with the strangled meat prohibition. I lean more toward it being a prohibition on the shedding of blood (murder).

I scored 59, so that makes me a moderate. But the test was poorly worded and loaded with many assumptions. Like IQ tests, so long as you agree with the criterion of the tester, you're a genius. In other words, it doesn't mean a whole lot.

As others have pointed out, some of the questions, such as the Act 15 one and the sabbath one, didn't seem to be properly constructed or had no option quite expressing my opinion. I also thought some of them weren't really a matter of liberal vs. conservative. Nevertheless, I chose something for each one and got a 44. I'm a bit surprised to be rated that conservative compared to most others on here.
