Well done Prince Harry, a shame though that now everyone knows he was there but at least he finally got to serve his country as he so badly wanted to.

At least now, one sees him not only as the party Prince only. As someone from London I can say I am proud of him, as not one son of any of the Members of Parliarment are serving in the war.

Harry withdrawn from Afghanistan

It's too bad that the media is more concerned about breaking a "big" story than the safety of the men and women serving there with him. For that information would make his unit target #1 by the Taliban not only endangering his life but of countless others.

The reporter could have sat on the story until his deployment was over. But they are like three year olds waiting for Christmas.

agapetos -> RE: Prince Harry in Afghanistan (2/29/2008 10:01:11 AM)

The newspaper that broke the story claim they didn't know there was an embargo on the story[&:]

Yeah, right!

I think Harry needs some direction in his life and I think that the deployment would have done him a lot of good ~ if it had been for a longer period of time.

Perhaps now though, he'll have the opportunity to do more.

Does that mean they'll get a financial slap on the wrist at least or is it just an "Aw, shucks, we are so embarrassed!" [:)][;)]

Marcus. -> RE: Prince Harry in Afghanistan (2/29/2008 10:31:44 AM)

Sounds like the typical media myopia. Only getting a story matters and the possible outcome from the exposure isn't given a second thought.

Breaching operational security should carry mandatory jail time.

Don't know, it was an Australian paper. I don't have anything against the Austrailians, just haven't a clue if they'll issue a financial (or other) slap on the wrists ~ and if it would be done by the Australian's, the UK or Harry and co who seemed pretty handy with their 'toys'[;)]

The leaker was Matt Drudge

The Drudge Report

ljmac -> RE: Prince Harry in Afghanistan (2/29/2008 11:50:06 AM)

Here is what Drudge had to say.

"Australian magazine NEW IDEA and the German daily BILD have broken world embargoes on the development. CNN has debated internally on the merits of reporting Harry at war."

Oh, pleeeeeze. Grow up, people. A prince serving in a combat unit is news. It's suprising the lid stayed on this long.

The fact the princes have served in the military say a great deal about the Brits and the royal family. You'd never see that in the US.

He can always come join the Texas Air National Guard.

I thought that was one of the reasons for the way our country was set up, so there wouldn't be any royalty.

Oh, so you expected the twins to sign up.

Jhud -> RE: Prince Harry in Afghanistan (2/29/2008 3:54:37 PM)

Reminds me of another Prince Hal who grew up to be a warrior after a wayward youth - though admittedly his brother will in all likelihood be the King.

lightshineon -> RE: Prince Harry in Afghanistan (2/29/2008 3:59:43 PM)

Give the kid, this, he was trying to be like everyone else, not a little sissy foofoo, like the rest of royals who are men. He has courage an conviction, such a rare thing these days.

That's what I thought too. Just because he's a prince in a royal family that makes headlines all the time doesn't mean it's okay to report his unit's location. They pretty much compromised the safety of the soldiers. Sure he's like a celebrity, but what the journalists that broke the story did was wrong and makes me think really less of them (not that I don't think that already LOL). This goes to show that journalists the world over are really all the same, they only care about the story and damn the consequences when it hits the papers. Since you know, they're not at fault, they're just the messengers.[:'(]

Cow manure

Marine Jimmy McCain, John McCain's son, just returned from his first tour of Iraq.

Do y'all really want Jenna on the front lines? She is kind of a real blonde KWIM? [:D]

Hang on - most male members of the Royal family enter the military. Prince Philip fought in WW2, Charles served in the Royal Navy, Andrew fought in the Falklands, William gruaduated from Sandown, Harry served in Afghanastan. Who are the "sissy foofoos"??

lightshineon -> RE: Prince Harry in Afghanistan (3/1/2008 3:36:25 AM)

They had posh jobs, who has been on the front lines, being just a guy. Harry is a different sort.

The American leaders - Bill Clinton and Dubya both come to mind. : /

I found this to since it was mentioned earlier:

quote:

(AP) The youngest son of Arizona Sen. John McCain has joined the Marine Corps and will begin basic training in California in September, according to a report in Time magazine.

Jimmy McCain, 18, will spend three months in boot camp, followed by a month of specialized training before being assigned to a unit. With 25,000 of 178,000 active duty Marines in Iraq now and 80,000 having done tours of duty there or in Afghanistan in recent years, his chances at deployment to a war zone are high.

"I'm obviously very proud of my son," the elder McCain told Time for a story in editions going on sale Monday, "but also understandably a little nervous."

McCain's communications director, Eileen McMenamin, confirmed the accuracy of the Time story but said the Senator would not comment further Saturday.

This has nothing to do with them, why do they come to your mind?

I assumed sissy foofoos meant leaders in general not simply the Royals since as it has already been pointed out they do serve which was always my impression.

I mentioned Jimmy because I thought it was newsworthy. I don't like John McCain but the fact that two of his sons have served his youngest in that mess in Iraq speaks something positive about McCain and his family.

Why not? Many women are serving as we speak.
