Hunter is finally making more progress with walking I am just so ready for it to happen already. Now he will walk as long as you hold his hand, his left hand to be exact. He is also making it further distances to before falling down. I am just ready for full fledge walking, that would be nice especially for outdoor playing.

She's learning animal sounds, it's so cute. Right now she's carrying around a plastic cow saying "boooooo!". LOL!! She also knows a sheep says "baa" and a chicken says "bock bock". Everything else barks/growls. ha!!! LOL! The big boys taught Levi how to make a "T-rex roar", so everything either roars or barks.

I think there may have been angels involved. Do they have a "sanity of mother" department? LOL Seriously, I expected at LEAST 3-4 spills.

ORIGINAL: theColonelswife QUESTION: how do you let your little one crawl and not be on the floor or constantly watching them at all times and get anything done? Put her in an exersaucer when you have to do dishes and cook. Usually that's when Jimmy is in his walker. I put him in it in the kitchen with me in the morning when I do dishes and in the evening when I cook dinner. If I'm going to be doing another kind of chore I use baby gates. I recommend just baby proofing the house. It's easy for me to say though because our apartment is 750 square feet. I use THIS to block Jimmy from getting down the hall into Timmy's very unsafe room. The door makes a noise when you open it, so I can just look to see who's going through. But, you have one, so you can just use a baby gate. Keep your bathroom door closed because it'll be a while before she learns to use doorknobs. Use furniture to block cords, or tape them to the wall. Get those little plastic things to put in your outlets. Get cabinet child proofers for your chemical cabinets, or keep the chemicals up high. Vaccuum often. Put a baby gate at the stairs if you have some. Aftwer a while, you'll also figure out what is interesting to her too. Like, Timmy could care less about the papers on the coffee table, but Jimmy would love to tear into them.

LOL, Sarah...do you know everything about me? Yes, I use a playpen. Two actually. We live in a huge house right now. I have the livingroom pretty much baby-proof (as much as you can with older siblings), and a gate on the doorway. I use the pack n play in there when he (and I!) need a break from the constant chasing and training that goes along with a 10-18 month old. The one in the kitchen...if I am in the kitchen and he is with me, he is in the pack n play or the high chair. I cannot stand little ones underfoot in the kitchen...so unsafe! I have a big kitchen though, so I know this is not possible for everyone. At this age, a playpen, high chair, exersaucer, hop n pop...anything that keeps them in one area...is good. Obviously, I don't keep them there all the time, but it is good for times I need to get something done, or even if I want to go to the bathroom in semi-peace. Levi actually likes his "confinement areas", I think, because it gives him his own space and all pre-approved, safe stuff to play with.

QUESTION: how do you let your little one crawl and not be on the floor or constantly watching them at all times and get anything done? Sometimes its a challenge, but most days it just takes being one step ahead and creative. We never did blanket training (though I think I might learn about that for the next kiddo) nor did we have a pack n play set up for him to play in. I keep the bedroom doors, except his closed for one thing and the rest of the house is somewhat of an open layout. No matter what room I am in I can usually see him and watch him carefully. A lot of times I fold laundry while standing up in the living room, load/unload the dishwasher during a snack time or he likes to stand there while I do it (keeping all sharp objects of reach of course), showers are only taken if he is asleep, hubby's home, or at night, etc. When he was just starting to crawl and I needed to get something done that was easier if he was confined to one area than I used our Johnny Jump Up or the exersaucer which he loved.

I guess I'm really lucky -- my kids all liked tummy time, they all LOVED the saucer, playpens meant they could do what they wanted (and eat their cheerios without the dogs attempting to steal) and the high chair was fun too -- they got to watch everything that was going on around them ... (and they 'helped' me bake ... they played with wooden spoons in the high chair while I did the actual mixing, etc. (Although they all managed to get the first muffin/cookie ... even before mom got a taste!)

I found a Baby Bouncer to be invaluable for when I wanted to do chores. We suspended it from a beam in the living room - it would also have fitted from a door frame. I put music on (my son loved reggae) and he'd bounce around and just love it!

ORIGINAL: LaurainAL What do you all do when you have to go to the bathroom? I can not leave hime unattended Sometimes I just have to take him with me You have two choices, put him in safe zone and let him scream, or take him with you if it's a short trip to the bathroom. I am not a fan of extended crying it out, but since your son is almost a year old, and in my opinion, old enough to know that mom and dad are not always at his beck and call 24/7. He's old enough to manipulate you, and five minutes of crying will not kill him. Can Ella help entertain him? Nathan didn't like the pack and play at first when he was old enough to be mobile, but I have it next to a window he can look out, I put music on for him to listen to, and there's toys in the pack and play that he only gets to play with when he's in there. Now he doesn't mind it, but I don't leave him in there for more then 15 minutes (when I'm showering).

If I really have to go and he is awake then a lot of times I use the bathroom with an audience. He doesn't watch me, but he is in the room with me. Our guest bathroom (his bathroom) has a white cabinet that I keep his wash clothes and extra bath soaps in. He stand there and pulls the wash cloths out or he plays in the cabinets which are completely empty. He will crawl in them, sit for a minute, crawl out, and repeat. I know with the next baby I will probably do a few things differently like probably having the pack n play set up for play time. The only problem with this is we travel often and this is where they sleep so I don't know how that will go. One minute its associated with play time and another sleep, I think it would confuse them a bit.

Chelle, I used a pack and play for Nathan's bed when I went to New York and he was 6 months old. He slept pretty well, all things considered. If the toys are removed and the baby is tired, it might go okay.

Am I missing something here? What's the problem with taking your baby/toddler to the bathroom with you, however long a visit it is?? My two always came with me.
