I found a paci that Jadon LOVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a "mam". I spent 10 dollars stocking up because I seem to lose them or my dog destroys them.

Here is a video we took today. Sadly, Jason turned it off right before he SMILED, but we'll get that eventually.

Jadon moving with a cameo of our dog lol

I think my right calf and foot will be disportionately (sp?) bigger than my left. I sit on the couch while on the computer and rock Mary in her bouncy seat (hers rocks).

What does the nipple look like? I looked on a website but it only showed the outside.

Nicole - they have a round end, but they are flat - unlike the NUK's. Jadon tolerated the Nuk's, but barely. However, once I put this in his mouth he goes to TOWN. It's WONDERFUL.

Okay, so age 5 really isn't 'baby' anymore, but I REALLY need a place to vent ...

WHAT ON EARTH possesses kids to think/act the way they do???? I mean, what went through my 5 year old's mind when he decided during naptime to jump up and down in the crib until he destroyed it??? (The crib is in his room which he shares with his 1 year old brother. The one year old was napping in the playpen, as I was cleaning the crib bedding and mattress ... the 5yo climbed into the crib and jumped up and down on the metal slats until the thing broke!) A replacement crib is something which is NOT in the budget right now!!! Fortunately, we also have a crib for the impending baby, so the wee one can use that for now ... and we co-sleep the first few months, so that buys us even more time -- but still!!!

I didn't hear it happening until it was too late (due to cleaning everything outside with the garden hose at full throttle) ... and this comes at the same time as our 7 year old is being weaned off of her meds for bipolar ... I want a vacation!

Janine, he's so darn cute! (Now I really, really want this baby out!) I love toward the end when he's just too tuckered out from all that hard work.

Kara-that sucks!!

awww Julie- Praying for you!!

Yolanda- Yay for sleep!!

Manda please read this, you will be proud of me!!
I would have slept ok if I didn't wake up in the middle of the night (4am) after feeding Nath, go into the kitchen and smell something rather funky, a dead mouse. I knew it was. So I went to the toilet, got my courage up, got a dust pan and broom and a plastic bag, spoke to myself the whole time, and I got the dead mouse from behind the desk that was almost a skeleton! And I threw it in the bin!!!!!! but at the smell!

I did the same with my ds, for when I was washing dishes, ironing or whatever. I eventually found that even when he was asleep in bed, and I was sitting watching TV, my right foot would find itself jiggling.

How do you teach a baby what "no" means? We have a wood stove in the living room, and Chase wants to touch it so bad. I have no idea how to go about teaching this.
Right now, we say "no" firmly and turn him around the other way, or take him somewhere else.
I've also tried putting my hands over his hands so that he can't crawl any further and saying no.
He's 7 months right now, and hopefully we won't need to make fires too much longer...yeesh, it's supposed to be spring!

You are doing a good job, when Grace got a little older I would give her a little tap on the hand too. Can you put things around it so he can't get to it til he is old enough to know not to go there? He really doesn't get it at this stage.

Yeah, I know there's no way he can "get it" and we can't really block it off, it's our only source of heat in the house, and there are certain distances that we have to keep from objects.

Oh well, it's almost may, we soon shouldn't need any heat in here. I will keep turning him around and trying to distract him!

I used to say "No, HOT!" really sharply, and with wide worried eyes, and squeeze their hands firmly, then turn then around.

That was with an open fire, with a fireguard round it. I'd really suggest you get a fireguard, just to give you a bit of extra time to get to him. We also used "No, HOT!" for sockets (outlets) and the cooker (which was a solid fuel AGA).

with very very few things we actually smack the hand...touching a hot surface is one of them. Even if it isn't hot right now, I would smack the back of his hand so that he associated that smack (light smack) with that action of touching. EVERY time is the key...consistency. Otherwise it will come down one day to him burning himself on it....and IMO it is better to have a little smack then to have to go to the ER with a burn.

You can read him the story of how my DD knocked the firescreen out of the way and burned her fingers on our fireplace. Ouchy! Alright that probably won't work either. I think you're doing just fine. It takes them a while to understand and even after that they still test. Is there no firescreen at all that would work?

Just wondering why you don't use a wire mesh fireguard?

Well, my mom knew someone that built a whole fence around their stove, with a gate and everything, but they have a gigantic living room. And we're also building onto our house this summer and will soon be heating with a furnace in the basement, so next winter shouldn't be an issue.
We also don't have space to do much in here. And, since space is an issue here, I'm never far away.
I must say though, he sure is a determined little guy.

I agree. There are guards you can buy. I believe Safety 1st is one of the suppliers. Their catalog is so cool.

I agree with training a baby not to touch, however, a toddler unsteady on his feet could fall into it, and a preschooler not watching where he was going...it would be best to block it off.
