Jenny-Fair -> RE: '08 Pregnancy Chat/Support (cont'd) (3/2/2008 10:56:32 AM)

Brandy, how do you sit during the day? Have you had back problems before?

Brandy -> RE: '08 Pregnancy Chat/Support (cont'd) (3/2/2008 11:01:27 AM)

The last 4-5 joints, my coxyx area is slightly turned so it's always been troublesome if I don't use lots of support when reclining.

During the work day I'm on my feet or sitting on a backless rolling stool. If I'm lucky and have to do some office work I get to sit at my desk in a 'real' chair.

At home it's computer chair with lumbar support or couch. The last week or so she has moved forward and I'm actually starting to show more and it's causing me to sit more forward than usual with my legs more spread to accommodate belly.

Do you have other sitting ideas?

Jenny-Fair -> RE: '08 Pregnancy Chat/Support (cont'd) (3/2/2008 11:03:08 AM)

When you say you are on your feet at work, are you walking or just standing?

Do you have to recline because of your coxyx joint problem?

Has anyone ever felt a part? I mean like a baby body part? I'll never forget the morning that I was laying in bed, waking up and I absentmindedly put my hand on my belly and I swear I felt an arm/elbow moving. Now that freaked me out. It was neat, but weird.

I felt and saw elbows lots closer to the end of my pregnancy. In the last few weeks Mary got mad when I would lay on my left side and would push her feet up so hard I could almost grab them. I had a sore spot for six weeks after she was born from her feet under my ribs!

Brandy -> RE: '08 Pregnancy Chat/Support (cont'd) (3/2/2008 11:11:35 AM)

Jen both. Working at vet hospital I do everything I can within reason. Restraint (they don't let me wrestle anymore), some standing procedures and then up front I'm on my feet at computer or walking getting things and checking on stuff. It's not retail/register work but it's not constant movement.

Reclining- I do it because it used to be comfortable, it's nice to layback and recline on one of the two built in recliners on the couch or in bed with lots of pillows to read. Are you going to tell me no more reclining?

Chelsea that's cool. Not the sore spot but the interaction [:)]

Jenny-Fair -> RE: '08 Pregnancy Chat/Support (cont'd) (3/2/2008 11:14:38 AM)

Yeah, pretty soon you should probably start sitting up straight, or criss-cross-applesauce on the floor, or on a ball. I might even try it for a bit and see if it reduces the pain.

When standing in the front area, try to have one foot up and alternate. So, a small footstool, or I used a shelf (but, uh, your boss might not like that! LOL) when I was preggers and working at Cinnabon.

Brandy -> RE: '08 Pregnancy Chat/Support (cont'd) (3/2/2008 11:18:33 AM)

crisscross applesauce is indian style?

Applesauce.. mmm applepie...

The stool idea could be helpful, and we have plenty of those at work, most of us are shorties.

I also just bought one for the kitchen here at home so I can reach without stretching and pushing belly into counter which doesn't feel great the last week.

Jenny-Fair -> RE: '08 Pregnancy Chat/Support (cont'd) (3/2/2008 11:20:49 AM)

Yeah, where I come from you can't call anything Indian. In fact, my college went from being the Indians to being the Yaks![:'(]

Hey, can you drink chamomile tea? I always drink strong chamomile tea when I have menstrual cramps because it's a muscle relaxant (and your uterus is one giant muscle...yours apparently feels it needs plenty of training for this baby's birth). But I don't know if it's pregnancy safe...I bet Donna would, though

I have no idea. I hate all kinds of tea.[:'(]

Every hospital I've been to we had to go through the ER to get to OB.

At our hospital you go to L&D triage if it's during the day and straight to L&D if it's at night.

Interesting. My hospital is very small, and has 4 LDRP (labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum) rooms. Usually you don't have to share with anyone either. I never have. After 24 weeks, you preregister at the admitting desk and then go to OB with any trouble after that. Being such a small hospital, they will send you by ambulance to a bigger hospital an hour away if they think you're having the baby before 36 weeks. I usually call ahead when I'm coming in for any reason because they might only have one OB nurse on and if there's a laboring mom, they'll call another in. Yes, it's that small.[8D]

PrincessDonna -> RE: '08 Pregnancy Chat/Support (cont'd) (3/2/2008 12:04:56 PM)

Caution about sitting Indian-style...if you are having hip or pelvic pain, that is not a recommended position. Sitting on an exercise/labor ball would be better, and is surprisingly comfy.

paulsbride -> RE: '08 Pregnancy Chat/Support (cont'd) (3/2/2008 12:10:25 PM)

I have a stuffy nose and sore throat, and it got me thinking ... what if a woman went into labor and she was sick? (Like had a cold sick.) I can't imagine blowing my nose, feeling icky sick *on top of* working on delivering my baby.
Has it happened to any of you? Or to anyone you know?

Paul is off today, and I so appreciate it!! He has been such a help with Judah, and with keeping me comfortable. And the sweet man just went out to Taco Bell to pick up steak tacos for me. mmmm! My favorite thing these days [:)]

Mrs.Wifey -> RE: '08 Pregnancy Chat/Support (cont'd) (3/2/2008 12:10:40 PM)

Lol, Donna. We use one of the more major hospitals in Denver, it used to be connected by tunnel to Children's Hospital of Denver although it's not the "preferred" hospital for preemies, that would be Presbyterian St.Lukes which is right across the street from St.Josephs.

Chamomile tea is safe in pregnancy :)

Every single delivery, I have had an awful cold and cough. Every time. Of course, they've all been in February, so hopefully this one in September will break that trend. Although, September is bad allergy season for me. I usually end up with an oxygen mask or plugger on through most of the labor because I can't breathe well enough for both of us.[&:]

I can't imagine delivering at such a big hospital, Ryanne, though I know there are benefits in some cases. I really like my tiny hospital.[:D]

Aww, I am sorry Donna! How does it actually *work* though? Like, in the middle of a contraction, do you say "Hand me a kleenex please!"
That must be so miserable to be sick at that time [:'(]

HomeSpunLady -> RE: '08 Pregnancy Chat/Support (cont'd) (3/2/2008 12:43:00 PM)

I drink and drank chamomile tea in my last and this pregnancy. Some days it was the only thing that would help the ms. My rule, everything in moderation. Even chamomile tea, too much of it, is still too much.

Now, I like my mega-hospital - "The Baby Factory" delivers around 18,000 babies a year, averaging 45-50 babies per day. It's great, though. The nursing staff is absolutely wonderful.

How does it work? Well, like anything else in labor, you just do what you have to do. And no, I've not needed a kleenex in the middle of a contraction, though I doubt I'd be able to SAY if I did anyway. LOL

That just blows my mind, Ruth.[:o]

ETA...follow the link in my siggy to help us pick a girl name.[:D]

Flintejae -> RE: '08 Pregnancy Chat/Support (cont'd) (3/2/2008 1:44:17 PM)

At my hospital you have to go through the ER (that's where my pre-reg paperwork is) and then they take me to LD after I'm admitted.

Jessica - I've actually wondered the same thing about being sick and laboring. lol

Brandy - sorry, hun, i have no advice for u. Has the pillow helped any?

Yachaddm -> RE: '08 Pregnancy Chat/Support (cont'd) (3/2/2008 2:38:34 PM)

Hi ladies, just had to pop in and share some exciting news. Dave had to work today (he runs a large medical building), so I went with him. We were able to use a doppler in the OB/GYN dept, and we found the heartbeat!! It was the most beautiful sound I've ever heard, and I feel so comforted to know this little one seems to be okay! [sm=heart.gif]

Brandy -> RE: '08 Pregnancy Chat/Support (cont'd) (3/2/2008 2:59:01 PM)

Megan thats so neat you were able to do use the doppler :) I love heartbeats, it's so comforting and relaxing.

Janine - it helps when I sleep but then every so often the sciatic portion of the pain sends shooters down from my hip and I have to move.

AND on top of it all my jaw is now loosening!!!! WEIRDEST feeling ever. I woke up in my usual position and my jaw was pushed over a good 1/2 inch and when I realigned it, it hurt like the dickens!!! I swear by the end of this pregnancy I'm going to be a loosey goosey joint woman. I just hope nothing slips out of joint. My shoulder is on my list of concerns should the looseness spread, that sucker has popped out several times and its NOT a happy occasion.

Donna, I didn't think about the hip pain, mostly because I haven't tried sitting like that yet, I'm sure it would have dawned on me when I stood up!!

I had weird dreams during morning nap this morning, I felt her foot and it was up in my rib cage so I called my mom to come running over and feel it. The weird part is she is in Mississippi. Hubby was no where to be found. The foot was fun tho.

Mrs.Wifey -> RE: '08 Pregnancy Chat/Support (cont'd) (3/2/2008 3:39:38 PM)

Donna, there are definitely advantages and disadvantages. I prefer the "small town" hospital feel but at the same time I was so glad for the NICU when Gabby had issues.

TammyIsBlessed -> RE: '08 Pregnancy Chat/Support (cont'd) (3/2/2008 3:42:42 PM)

Donna - the small town hospital I delivered in this time is even smaller than yours. It has 2 LDR rooms! I was the only mom in there the 3 days I was there.

I previously delivered in larger hospitals. The first one was more like a birthing centre and was excellent. Unfortunately it was shut down 2 weeks before #3 so I had to have her at the teaching hospital in the city and it was a horrible experience!

I'm so glad I could end on a positive hospital experience - it was fabulous!

Cool! The only mom there with me was my cousin. We kept seeing each other at the doctor and joked how it would be funny to have them at the same time...and then we did! Her little boy was born a day before Levi, so she got to listen to my entire labor.[8D]

My ms, breast tenderness and exhaustion seem to be very gradually going away. Although I'll have days that are worse than others. And days that are better than others. I'm taking this as normal, right? I mean, I'm 10 weeks and gradual is good, right?

You have given me a small glimmer of hope [:)] I'm 8 weeks and feeling [:'(][&:][:'(][:(]

I'm not online much anymore because scrolling up and down the pages makes me nauseous. Hopefully I can catch back up with you ladies once the all-day sick fest subsides. Can't remember how long it lasted with the first pregnancy, but I'm hoping it will be better by 12 weeks.

I hate to type this out loud, but I *may* be feeling slightly less sick. Only slighty. And very gradual. I will be 10 weeks on Tuesday. I'm hoping and praying and hoping and praying!

We told our church this morning. That was pretty fun. I went to the table with the most ladies during our fellowship time after church...as soon as they screamed, everyone else knew. [:D]

I have to say, I'm glad I didn't have to listen to anyone else in labour!
