I was just thinking.. Lets have an opinion session...

What lineup did you like better?

The Perrys with lead, soprano, alto, bass or the current lineup with a baritone instead of a soprano?

Me personally, I liked the soprano lineup better! What do you think?

I love the current lineup.

It's not that they were bad with a soprano, or anything like that--in fact, I like Nicole Kidman's voice--but rather that I like the Happy Goodmans-style sound of an alto/lead/baritone/true bass. Though the Diplomats are getting a little closer to being nationally recognized, there really isn't anything else like the Perrys' sound on the national scene right now.

I have many records of the great groups of yesteryear with that structure--Happy Goodmans, Weatherfords, Hopper Brothers & Connie etc.--and I'm really glad there's at least one group out there preserving that sound.

I liked the group in the '80s with Randy and Denise and I generally do like sopranos so I don't think I'd mind if they added another soprano. However, I do think they've hit a nitch (not sure how to spell it) with the current lineup and they are quickly becoming one of my top 5 groups again.

I love the current group. I've enjoyed the Perrys over the years but this group is the one I'll travel the furtherest to see!

I have liked nearly all the versions of the Perrys. My personal favorite was Loren Harris (Lead), Curt Davis (Baritone), Libbi (Alto), Tracey (Bass). The current line-up is just as good but has not quite reached (but getting closer) becoming my personal favorite line-up yet.

Nicole Kidman sang some shape note music in the Cold Mountain movie, but I can't really picture her with the Perrys...she's too tall. :o)

My personal favorite was Mike Bowling, Nicole Jenkins, Libbi, and Tracy. That lineup to me had the best traditional Perrys sound! Since the realignment, the lineup with Loren as lead and Joe as baritone is my favorite! Don't forget to vote for the PERRYs in the next round of votes for SN awards!! God Bless

One of my favorite songs from the Perrys is on a video I have from the 80's. It's Libby, Tracy with a soprano and lead singer - "I Remember the Day When the Lord Saved Me." That song always gets me excited!

That is Denise Helton...she took Deborah Perry's place, and I would agree that the original group, live band and all, was awesome!

Guess what...you are in luck!!! They just released a three dvd collection titled I Remember the Day!! It includes videos from 1988, 1991, and 1993. I you could probably go to their website:The Perrys
and go to their online store and buy it.

If there is no luck there, try seeing them when they come near you...it is on their product table!!

I have been Perrys fan since 1988 when I heard them sing "I remember the Day" with Randy and Denise. Have most of their projects since. We are from Minnesota so don't get to see them much other than at the NQC. However we try to route a vacation to the South each year around their schedule. Next week, the 28th we will see them at Headland AL. This will be the third year in a row we will have seen them there. I always enjoy talking to Tracy and Mathew. Tracy always remember me and where we live. Its like we are good old friends. I would love having them as neighbors.

I like them both ways...but personally I think if they had a soprano, lead baritone, alto and bass they'd be slammin'...maybe just because I wanna be the soprano lol!

I was searching thru my DVDs the other day and ran accross the Fan Awards in 2004. There has never been, or will there ever be a more moving fan awards ceremony as that one!

I have never felt anyone more deserving of an award than The Perrys on that night. I have never cried so hard for anyone, anytime as i did for "These Fine Respectable Folks! "

LONG LIVE THE PERRYS!!!
