We don't even eat that much fast food in 6 months. Did you see all the Coke the Mexican family drinks in a week. And, all the wine and beer (I think) the German family drinks.

I was shocked at all the prepackaged food I saw in those pictures, but the USA was the worst of all! Grapes were the only frest fruit or veggie I saw! At least most of the other countries had more fresh foods and grains.

I wouldn't want other people in other countries thinking all Americans eat like that. It was pretty sad to see the amount of food the family in Chad eats. It looks like rice, beans, split peas maybe? And, just a little bit of produce.

I have a rather picky hubby too sometimes, but I love him despite it. He has gotten a lot better about eating leftovers and I think it was all in his head anyway.

I try to not go over $75/week for everything, but sometimes I do. It's really getting hard the way prices are rising. My pantry stock is severely dwindled down too lately as I've been trying to stay on budget. I do have a Kroger, and am unimpressed with them overall. My only other option is several fancy health food markets (like Whole Paycheck) or Wal-Mart. I've looked at several websites about shopping at Kroger, and the deals posted have never once coincided with what's on sale at my Kroger. Also, my Kroger policy will not allow you to use coupons to get items for free, has a lot of restrictions on internet coupons, and basically treats like you are handing them Monopoly money when you use coupons. I spend at least $12-15/week on milk (soy for DH & Reagan), and another $25ish on fruits & veggies. Once you add in diapers for two, I think I do pretty well on our budget. quote:
I don't know if I have any tips, I think my main thing is I am super lucky that I have a hubby who doesn't mind if we eat the same thing three days in a row. We eat a lot of casseroles and soups, I make a big pot of whatever we are having and we eat it until it is gone. That really does help. It's like pulling teeth to get my husband to eat leftovers or soup. I try to never have more than two meals per week be leftovers. He also gets regular cooked meals at lunch, not sandwiches.

Wine and Beer really aren't that horrible for you, and Mexican soda is actually what I prefer since it has Cane Sugar and not HFCS. Those countries are also alot more active then we are... It just appalls me how inactive the US is considering how often the majority of us over-eat.

I've also learned to "reinvent" leftovers so they are different enough. Doinkdom introduced me to her Chili Casserole for Chili leftovers and I make stuffed bell peppers with spaghetti and rice leftovers. You can make asian style lettuce wraps, mexican food, salads, and greek flatbread sandwiches out of chicken. That is what I do with ours, or I just freeze them and we eat them later on.

Yeah, our Dillon's is like that too. Also, they only double coupons up to 50 cents. (in other words, the only coupons you can double are 25 cent coupons.) Oh boy! Why bother?

We have a lunch truck at work that has Mexico made Coca Cola. Oh my gosh. REAL CANE SUGAR. YUM. it's a super awesome treat and sooo delicious. I could live on wine and beer if I were German. And otehr yummy German foods would be fun to live on. I am starting to think of ways to cut our grocery bill. Right now we don't have a budget, it's just us two and two paychecks so we don't have to. BUT with baby coming that takes a paycheck away so there will be a need to prioritize spending. hmm. Lots to think about.

Yesterday Paul said to me "Sweetheart, you know I love you. And I am so proud of you for the couponing and deals you get." I stared at him and said "Go on" because he had stopped talking but I KNEW he was leading up to something. "Well babe... we're just gonna have to come up with some rules about how much you can talk to me about the coupons." LOL! Brian has said almost the exact same thing to me. I told him if he stops talking to me about cars and their mechanical parts, I'll stop talking about my shopping deals. We spend $125-150/week, including diapers, cleaning products, paper products, bathroom products, the random pair of shoes or package of socks, and usually birthday presents for our whole family. That also includes what we get on WIC. I get it all at Walmart and do use competitor's sales for at least half of my purchases, stocking up when I am able. Today I got as many diapers as I had coupons and won't have to buy any for a while...hopefully until there is another great sale. Pampers or Huggies jumbos were $7.50, and I had a bunch of $1.50 or $2 coupons. We could spend less if I bought less healthy food, but I'm not willing to sacrifice that for my family and feed them junk. As for Americans eating junk...believe me, many of them do. Having worked at Walmart, I have checked out people who had $800 in food stamps at the beginning of the month and spent half of that on processed JUNK in the first day of the month. Disgusting.

Disgusting. $800 a month in food stamps!? We get $200 a month for 4 of us. We used to get $280, but Robert got a 50 cent raise. How can people even spend 800 on food in a month? Even if we bought everything we want like steak and shrimp and Tullys coffee and fancy OJ and pomegranite juice, I don't thik we could spend that much. we spend about 800 a month on food here. But I wonder if that's because our food prices are higher than they are in the states or maybe we are eating differently here? I still can't get over how cheap your food is! Although they did say on the news the other day that the average shopping trolley of food in Australia has gone up about $50 (i think it could be more) in the last year, and I sure know it! I notice every week one item I buy would have gone up. I think our drought has alot to do with it though, the drought affects every aspect of food life. So from the meat, dairy, fruit and veg, even the cereals and breads.

We spend $600-650 on groceries per month, including paper products and cleaning supplies. Of course, we also have a teenage boy and a preteen girl. We have become very diet conscious over the past few years (food sensitivities and certain dietary choices), so that increased our food budget. We used to be able to do with a lot less. Nicole, the US government has subsidized certain parts of our agriculture so that our food prices do not increase very much; however, there are a few factors that have put some irresistable pressures on our food prices, so they are increasing.

High Quality food in the USA is expensive. I've been studying nutrition and the quality of our food has gone down over the years which causes it to be cheaper. Things like the amount of HFCS affects both the nutritional value of foods and the price. With so many Americans buying lower quality boxed and bottled goods as a mainstay of their diet, it's no wonder food in America is as inexpensive as it is. I know you ladies feed your families a healthy diet, but when I look at the carts of the people in the grocery line next to me, it is very rare for me to see a healthy diet rolling down the conveyer belt.
