I was recently made aware that there are Christians who do not believe some things I have never actually questioned concerning the planet Earth.
I have always believed that the Earth rotates around the sun, and is round. That gravity keeps us on the planet. Some people don't believe this, and I am curious as to how many.

This poll gives choices in some of those areas, and you are not limited to how many options you vote for.

Don't tell me some one doesn't believe in gravity?

yep. If the Bible does not specifically say it, it is not true. (that is the theory put forth)

Since the Bible talks about the sun moving forth across the sky, it means that the Earth stands still, and the sun moves around us. I think that is the gist of the belief.

I had never, ever heard of someone thinking this way until a day or two ago. I'm still flummoxed.

I don't see that the earth never gets close to the sun. Sun only strikes the earth as it rotates.

That is good because I selected the three most appropriate for the survey.

Aren’t meteorologists scientists? If they are then science agrees that the Earth stands still, and the sun moves around us.

Which meteorologists would that be?

I guess they figured he'd show up in this thread eventually and wanted me to keep an eye out for him.

Any of them who state: "Sunrise tomorrow will occur at such and such time and sunset will occur at such and such time." The correct terminology should be "our longitudinal meridian will rotate to allow first vision of the sun at such and such time and we will rotate away from final vision at such and such time". That is real science!

I kept saying it that way, but folks keep telling me it's conversationally awkward. I don't get it.

I also added a bit about the fact that the longitudinal meridian & first solar appearance is specific to a specific earthbound observer. My lawyer advised that I should state that your actual results may vary. Maybe that's the bit they found a little over the top.

Shame on the meteorologists for adopting such imprecise language!

FYI - I voted that the earth is flat. I have had 4,567 individual socks disappear leaving 4,567 individual unmatched socks behind. The only theory I can come up with is that my dryer is too close to the edge and they fall off.

I always thought that was caused by a parallel dimension intersecting via the dryer mechanism which means the socks are really still there, they just are out of phase so we can't see them...

My other theory is that the world is indeed round and the membrane theorists are correct - in an eleven dimensional world, entire universes can keep popping in and out of existance at the drop of a hat (or shoe, sock, whatever)

Meaning therefore, half of every pair of socks is actually an entire universe unto itself (possible given the sheer amount of living organisms present). The cool thing then is you can buy half a dozen universes at Wal-Mart for $5.99
