My DD just did a week's worth of assignments in one day and she waited to tell me, but kept on working. So... I feel hopeless with trying to keep up with her. Does anyone else have this problem?
I wish my kids were motivated like this.
I should clarify that she did this in ONE subject so far. She knows public school will be out for the summer starting tomorrow...so she has some extra motivation here. BUT< she does tend to do some school work at night before bed, or when she has nothing else to do and I don't know about it.

Well, we have kinda taken a break, as we are getting ready to move (traveling back and forth between Cincinnati and Cleveland until our house sells!). And I have not ordered our curriculum for next year yet. She wants is NOW  , and is anxious to get started! For the past year, we kinda were winging it, and have come to a natural stop with the end of the PS year and the move. I am not sure how I will keep up with her. With her math, she is very good at doing the work and checking the practice problems herself. We usually do the lesson (teaching) together, so she is not doing it all herself, just the problems, and I help her with those as needed. Then she checks the answers and we go over results.
For next year, we are going to do Sonlight, but as she wants to work at a faster pace than younger brother, I will be ordering 2 core curriculum packages, plus math and all the extras! Will be very pricey, but I know it is the answer for us.
We went to the homeschool convention in Cincy, and my original thoughts were to use Abeka, and make some substitutions (Teaching Textbooks - math, Apologia - science, etc). Both kids are VERY into literature, and we kept coming across these great books (like the YWAM heroes books - forgot what they are called). Anyway, we walked into the Sonlight booth, and EVERYTHING that we wanted was there! The math, science, and literature, plus the art program that my son wanted, etc! It was amazing! We had used Sonlight when daughter was in Kindergarten, but had not seriously considered it again, as I did not think they went past 8th grade. We are ALL so excited!
Sorry for the ramble... it doesn't answer your questions, as I am not sure what next year will look like. I know that I will be spending lots of time with them on their school work, but that's okay, I love it!!

I am trying so hard to get my daughter involved in choosing curriculum and doing planning with me, but she wants me to do it. I think she's being lazy. I know what she wants and where she is headed. She wants me to plan it all out for her, so all she has to do is follow directions. It's easier for me, but I think she needs to participate more.
On Friday and Saturday, this week, is our state homeschool convention. I told her that not only is she coming with me, but she will be attending lectures and shopping with me. If she sees a friend, she is not allowed to take off and socialize. This is not a social event. This is a planning and purchasing event and she is with me!
Okay. I got that off my chest.

Cynthia, she might just be overwhelmed with the idea. Maybe you could have her choose a couple of things this year, and then you do the rest. Then next year she chooses more of it. Remind her that when she goes to college she's going to have to make all of the decisions, so it's best to get some practice in.

Yes. That is what she told me and we are working on her choosing with me or at least having veto power when she sees what I am have in mind. That is a big reason why I want her to go to the convention and to pay attention to what we are purchasing. I want her to see it, hold it, know it's what's she wants.
There are some good seminars we will go to:

I want her to get a sense of power and joy in her education. Something I never had. She was asking me today if I liked high school. I did not. Most of my teachers were really weird and very pagan. I would have enjoyed biology, but my biology teacher was really disturbed. The only things I remember about the class were that a boy let me use his blood for the bood test and that my male teacher claimed his wife raped him so she could get pregnant and he was so overjoyed when she miscarried. And people wonder why I'm not interested in sending my child to high school in the same school district I attended.

Hmm, Cynthia, I hated high school even though my teachers weren't as weird!!
I told Ds that he owns his education. I want him to finish 9th and 10th grade and then go to college for 2 years.

TL isn't having a problem with the seminars or sticking with me. She hasn't given me any attitude. She is happy that she's being included. I told her it's not a social event or she will completely lose focus, because she is a very social person. We will meet up with at least one of her friends while we are there and are working on arrangements for bringing her home with us for the night. I just don't want her to get there, be looking for her friends and forget the purpose of the convention, otherwise I wouldn't bother to bring her at all, as I can focus better when I'm alone and I really need to focus.
