ORIGINAL: GVfan Since this is a "confessional"........... These are some of my pet peeves...... Easter eggs, Easter Egg hunts, Easter bunnies....... Maybe I shouldn't get started on it!!! I DO like to call Good Friday, Crucifixion Day and Easter Sunday, Resurrection Day. Just don't bring up the "Santa" thing, our Santa might be a little touchy on that subject! LOL True. Very true!!

quote: ORIGINAL: monamie quote: ORIGINAL: utilityfielder I have just heard this story. And I just had to share it here. Anyone else find it ironic that she was pried out of the bathroom by Mr. Whipple?????? Good catch Mona. That made me wonder if it was an early April Fools joke, but I googled the county and it appears to be real. And the sheriff is named Whipple. _____________________________ The place is a rural county in Western Kansas and I have seen footage of the trailer where they were living. And I just heard a follow up story which quoted the woman saying that she felt safe in the bathroom. The man appears unable to cope with the situation.

ORIGINAL: Dinana I was once on a jury where the convicted guy escaped from the county jail a little while after the trial where we convicted him! I finally convinced myself that he wouldn't bother to look me up to come after me!!! And they re-captured him a week or so later. I have been called for jury duty once and that was over 25 years ago.

Question for Kerrlaw... If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself, is it considered a hostage situation or attempted murder?

Kerrlaw -- Where did the saying ... "I'm going to hit the hay" come from?

I know when they were naming the jury and the alternates for the child molestation case, the tension in the court room was intense. When they finally called the last name, there was a very loud sigh of relief from all of us not chosen. I would have served and done my best, but I really didn't want to be on a jury for that kind of case....

The two cases that I was called in as a potential juror were a burglary and an assault.

ORIGINAL: BelovedHandMaiden Kerrlaw -- Where did the saying ... "I'm going to hit the hay" come from? Back in the day, mattresses were large sacks of straw or hay. To "hit the sack" or "hit the hay" came to mean going to bed. My father remembers sleeping on straw ticks as a child. They would get a new one and stuff it as full as possible, then jump up and down on it to pack it, then stuff more. He remembers burrowing in to make himself a nice little place to sleep, kind of like my cats do with the back sofa cushions.
