What are your views on singing in church? Are you more of the introvert singing on the inside or the extrovert being the loudest one there?

ta_mosquito -> RE: Do you sing in Church? (3/15/2008 11:12:39 PM)

By the title, I thought you meant singing solos or other special music.

I love to sing. I am not great, but I do love singing. If I know the song, I sing it at a comfortable volume. Sometimes it's a bit loud, sometimes quiet; it depends on how loud others are around me. If the instruments or other singers are louder, I'll be louder. But I don't want to stick out, so I tone it down when others are, too.

What are my VIEWS of it? It's a good thing. It's one of the ways I best focus on God and worship Him.

Yes. It's sort of what I do. [;)]

Terath -> RE: Do you sing in Church? (3/16/2008 10:36:48 PM)

Well, I hate it, but I do it. It's sort of a duty thing, you know? You're there, so even if you don't enjoy it, that's not the point, so suck it up and belt it out like some half-mutilated cow on steroids. I do not have what you call a "singing voice."

sunshine4God -> RE: Do you sing in Church? (3/17/2008 12:07:49 AM)

Yes,I love singing praises to God!.

Biblefreak -> RE: Do you sing in Church? (3/17/2008 9:44:08 AM)

Yes, I sing all the time. I understand that I'm in that building to worship God with a body of believers.

I don't want to start a big debate, but this just sounds sooooo wrong! If you're singing just because you have to, that ain't exactly an attitude of praise or worship. Just my opinion, but in that case you may as well just shut up and sit down.

Me? I love to sing praise and worship. Like another poster said, in church, in the car, walking on the beach, wherever I can.

BTW, your poll's broke.

jodavi -> RE: Do you sing in Church? (3/17/2008 11:25:02 AM)

I also thought singing like choir or worship team with the title.
Anyway, yes I do sing but then I sing everywhere and any time. I love music. I sang in the choir for so many years and I wish I could sing with the church I'm at right now but with the distance, it's very hard for me to commit with practices but I do miss singing in the choir...a lot!

freakofnature -> RE: Do you sing in Church? (3/17/2008 3:05:30 PM)

I play the bass for our church chior and worship team. I don't have vocal talent so I keep my singing to myself but I really thoroughly enjoy playing bass and aiding the members of the church into worship it is really exciting when everyone is in the presence of God. That is the most exciting thing. I have played bar bands in my earlier years, I have playing in Christian metal bands, accoustic rock bands but there is just something about when God's presence is real and everyone is there.

Beanteaser -> RE: Do you sing in Church? (3/18/2008 12:11:50 PM)

Now that we have a new music pastor, I try to sing a little more. The last one sang soprano and played the piano a couple octaves higher. This was difficult for me to even attempt to sing on key because I have a lower voice. (Yes, I know God doesn't care if I sing in tune or not) Now that we have a male singer to lead the church in worship, I am able to somewhat sing on key.

If it's a stupid song or lyrics that are in line with Scripture, I won't sing it at all.

Well, I can understand why you would think that, but I think you're wrong. Why? Because I simply cannot identify with the music. I've heard people say "I wish the music were more upbeat" or "I wish there were fewer hymns" and whatnot. That's not my problem. The problem is that I simply can't stand drumming outside of a thrashing double bass beat, can't stand vocals outside of a death metal growl, can stand guitars outside of a thrash metal shred-fest, etc. It's not music I could praise anyone, God or not with. If the music is a completely foreign experience to me, how could it ever possibly come from my heart at all? Now, unless God is merciful and plops With Blood Comes Cleansing and As I Lay Dying in my church suddenly, I'm probably not going to be able to sing the music from my heart. That's what worship is, right? A heartfelt expression of your love for God. Well, I can't very well do that listening to the funeral dirge that 90% of all Christian music, period, is to me. It's not how I can relate to God, not in the least. So it would be better to simply not sing, but it's what's expected of me and everyone else. At church, it probably wouldn't be a problem if I didn't sing, as far the number of people goes. But at school it's another issue. I'd say about 10 people in the whole school actually sing in chapel, not counting the worship team. Since I'm willing to, as a sort of duty, I will if it will help make it sound like at least someone cares. At least I care enough about God to try to sing to him, even if it's painful every step of the way. Few of my peers do.

I think the only time I don't sing is when I am sick.

DreadPirateRandy -> RE: Do you sing in Church? (3/22/2008 4:16:10 AM)

I let my Les Paul do the singing for me.

redeemedsaint -> RE: Do you sing in Church? (3/22/2008 8:08:54 AM)

I do sing with my Praise Team in church and sing when I'm not on the team. I am very loud even without a microphone. I guess that I have been blessed with a big mouth or my voice just projects.

Little_1 -> RE: Do you sing in Church? (3/25/2008 2:06:19 PM)

I am one of those who makes a joyful noise unto the Lord.

I love singing but admit that I am not the best singer in the world.

I very seldom sing in church.I love to sing, however our piano player has no sense of timing and the song service is BORING.And the ccm is dry and has no meaning to it.Our church is very contemporary.Needless to say,we're planning to leave the church. My husband and i both feel if the song service is dry and meaningless, there's no point in bothering with the message.

Ha ha ha! That's often how I feel about our traditional church! Except it's the organist who has no sense of timing...

Zhi -> RE: Do you sing in Church? (4/7/2008 4:51:34 PM)

The only time I don't sing in church is when I'm playing keyboards/piano, and half the time even then I'm singing alto harmony because I'm one of the few at my church who can (though frankly it's kind of hard for me to do off-the-cuff piano with chords-only music well and harmonize at the same time, so I try to do just piano when I can)

I have a low voice too (lost my high range while pregnant and it's still pretty shaky), and if you have trouble singing along with the melodies I suggest practicing with the radio on doing harmony (a lot of songs these days have excellent harmony you can copy), until you're comfortable enough to do it yourself ;)

jive4005 -> RE: Do you sing in Church? (4/8/2008 5:27:35 AM)

remember, God is already happy with the voice He gave you... He doesn't care if you think it's good or bad, He loves the sound of your voice. So SING to Him, He expects it and loves it.

His,
J

I'm on the praise band and they'd be disappointed if I didn't sing! [;)]

ken1906_4 -> RE: Do you sing in Church? (4/8/2008 1:59:15 PM)

Though I can sing well, I don't think it's my gifting.
I got the itch to sing again (with the choir at my current church) a couple of years ago when I return to the church I grew up in for a reunion concert of former members of the church's youth choir. It's was great, the rehearsing, seeing old friends and the actual concert, but I realize I'm not a teenager anymore. [:D] Now, I just sing during "praise and worship" during service and in the car. My wife keep urging me to sing for our main choir and if not that with the Men's Choir. I have to think about it though.
