RayDunakin -> What current groups are really good? (3/16/2008 12:51:29 AM)

I had to let my subscription to SN expire a few years ago (Sorry!) and then a couple years ago I had to cut back on forums too. So I've kind of been out of the loop. I know a lot of the groups I used to be able to count on for good, reliable music have either passed on or changed greatly in the past few years -- Cathedrals, Gold City, etc. I don't know which groups have improved, and which have faded away. And I don't know anything about new groups that have arisen since then.

What groups are currently putting out really good music? Which groups today appear to be the upcoming "major leaguers" of tomorrow?

pittsgirl -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/16/2008 1:33:45 AM)

In my opinion, TRIUMPHANT QUARTET is the best quartet on the road.
Legacy Five also has a very good sound. Signature Sound is also a lot of fun to watch. The Dove Brothers are also favs of mine. I am sure there are more out there that are great, but they just don't make it to Texas.
If you like trios, some do and some don't, there are several pretty good ones.
CrossWay, Greater Vision, 3 Bridges, Booth Brothers are all good with different styles and sound. There are others, but these just happen to be my favs.

One of THE BEST out there right now, in my opinion, is The Dove Brothers.

tenorsister -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/16/2008 1:45:53 AM)

The Kingsmen and The Kingdom Heirs are two of my favorites.

Jeff_from_Kentucky -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/16/2008 4:40:48 AM)

In my opinion Legacy Five and Greater Vision are the two best right now.

danielmount -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/16/2008 5:12:32 AM)

Right now, I would name the Hoppers and the Perrys for mixed groups, and Ernie Haase & Signature Sound, Triumphant Quartet, and the Kingdom Heirs heading the list for male quartets. All five have lineups and song selection equal to or better than at any other point in their history--in other words, they're at their peak right now. The Booth Brothers and Greater Vision would head the list of most popular trios, with the Mark Trammell Trio being my current favorite trio.

I'll agree with the earlier posters that Legacy Five and the Dove Brothers both have strong lineups right now; however, I must confess that I think Legacy Five's strongest lineup so far was one of the ones with Roger Bennett, and my favorite Dove Brothers lineup was the original one (with John Rulapaugh and Burman Porter). But the current lineups are really good, too.[:)]

Dove Brothers, Kingdom Heirs, Tribute Quartet, Kingsmen

GVfan -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/16/2008 8:14:10 AM)

My favorites are Greater Vision for trio and Triumphant for quartets. But there are a TON of excellent groups out there. It just depends on your taste on which ones are "really good!"

Qtman -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/16/2008 8:23:06 AM)

Either I am dreaming or you made a post somewhere about liking traditional quartet music ie., The Statesmen, Cathedrals etc. With this in mind I would recommend Triumphant, Kingdom Heirs, Dove Brothers and Kingsmen. If you want to check out some more progressive SG mixed with Traditional take a look at Sig Sound and Brian Free & Assurance.

I thought the same thing at first; I caught a concert with Tim Parton filling in, and when I heard he got the full-time job, I was pleased, but not too much. All of that changed when I saw the guys last month. Tim has really come out of his shell, and he even sang an absolutely incredible song called "God's Been Good." From what I gather, that song will be on L5's next project, due out possibly in May.

AngelInWaiting1983 -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/16/2008 2:36:54 PM)

Some newer groups that are wonderful are:

Mercy's Well

and

Driven Quartet

PaulPate -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/16/2008 3:27:55 PM)

I would agree with the ones already mentioned that I have heard (I have heard most of them). i would add The Dixie Melody Boys and The Dixie Echoes. Ed O'neal (Dixie Melody Boys) has one of the most steady bass voices out there and manages to keep a good group regardless of the turnover. Randy Shelnut with The Dixie Echoes, I believe has as good a group as it has been since his dad passed away.

lordpraiser -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/16/2008 7:15:19 PM)

The Talley Trio can't be beat in my opinion

hopperfan -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/16/2008 8:19:33 PM)

In my opinion, the Hoppers, Jeff and Sheri Easter, The Vocal Band, Ivan Parker, and Kingsmen are on top in being really good.

BRBB -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/16/2008 10:14:47 PM)

My picks would be the Kingdom Heirs,Gold City,Brian Free & Assurance,Old Paths,Triumphant, there's really a lot of great ones out there in my opinion.

Billboy -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/16/2008 10:15:26 PM)

Trust me, any of the full-time groups that happen to be singing in an area that you can attend will not disappoint you. You will be blessed and entertained.

SGEnthusiast -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/16/2008 11:01:00 PM)

My favorite is the Freemans but they were around years ago too. They just keep getting better.

On the other hand, possibly the group that I think has really gotten better the past few years and is being recognized more by Singing News fans is The Perrys. Even if you prefer quartets, I think you would like their sound.

Seaton -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/17/2008 7:48:19 AM)

That is a loaded question....[:D]

It really comes down to what style you prefer, unless you have an eclectic taste. If that is the case then Southern Gospel is a perfect match. Myself, variety is the key. I prefer listening to Triumphant or Dove Brothers and then turning on LordSong or CrossWay then listening to Crabb Revival or Booth Brothers.

Southern Gospel has something for everyone.

S-Llama -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/17/2008 9:31:37 AM)

My favorite hands down is the Kingsmen. Ray has surrounded himself with absolutely amazing talent.

Next would be Ernie Haase and Signature Sound.....'nuff said

youngartist -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/17/2008 11:21:20 AM)

In my opinion, if you're looking for straight-ahead, powerhouse Southern Gospel it doesn't get any better than the Kingdom Heirs right now.

If you love sky-high tenor and cutting-edge Southern Gospel it doesn't get any better than Brian Free & Assurance.

If you like a 4 guys and a piano player with all-star members and some great Southern songs then it doesn't get any better than Triumphant Qt.

That's my opinion.

Honorable mentions: Dove Bros, Booth Brothers.

((If you want to hear the nicest guys you'll EVER meet, go see Soul'd Out Quartet. [;)]))

sunluvingirl -> RE: What current groups are really good? (3/17/2008 11:45:29 AM)

My favorite trio is Greater Vision & L5 is one of the best quartets IMO, though there are many other great ones too. As far as soloists, Mark Bishop & Ivan Parker. I love the variety of SG groups & their music styles, though I am not really a fan of the country/bluegrass sound. Oh my I hope this post doesn't sound too narrow-minded[sm=unsure.gif]!!!
