techne -> RE: the calling of an artist... (3/27/2008 7:36:41 PM)

i think this is starting to get a little tangential, but i'll quickly make some comments, and then we can hopefully address these ideas and/or at least relate them to the original post... quote:
ORIGINAL: growingseed Let me think, the Bible is a book based upon one thing that no other book in the history of man has ever been written, and that is that it is based upon prophecy. Prophecy, history written in advance. All the authors of the Bible were under the influence of the Holy Spirit, so in a way the Lord was writing through them. sure -- the bible was...please remember that you're responding to my response to your post, which contained this: I think that what i think has been over ruled by what the Lord thinks through me. i think that is significantly different than the inspiration of the original writers. besides, i'm not sure i understand how the mystery of biblical inspiration occurred, but i tend to think that it wasn't men channelling the thoughts and words of G-d. i don't think paul and peter and luke and matthew and john were possessed by the holy spirit and uninvolved with the process of writing. they were, after all, writing letters to the church, and addressing actual situations, not simply writing abstracts and doctrine for the church. then again, neither of us really knows how the process worked. in any case, the kind of inspiration that occurred in the writing of the new testament letters is certainly not what happens when you or i write or draw or film or choreograph... quote:
ORIGINAL: growingseed I believe that most people or higher percentage of people who read here are learning to be obedient, that given in our salvation. Of course by yielding ourselves, the Holy Spirit will work through us, however way you look at it, it's still a higher form of experience that sometimes we can't explain. okay. surrendering to the will of G-d is an act of agency - a participating with rather than an abdication of personhood. the holy spirit works through us only if it's with us. i don't know if i'd say it's a "higher form of experience" (i actually don't even know what that means, to be honest). certainly, the effects of G-d using my abilties and work is certainly surprising and more than i could expect... quote:
ORIGINAL: growingseed I'm learning the difference between how i want things and how the Lord wants things. yes - it's a process. i hear you on that one. hopefully, as the years go by and we grow in christ, that discrepancy will become less and less obvious. but i'd still like you to respond to my questions about the nature and realtionship of the artistic form and the content of the work -- your ideas/ questions about (and i am paraphrasing) "learning a new language" and "everything should point to the cross". i'd be interested in hearing more about those thoughts...
