agapetos -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (4/16/2008 6:03:26 AM)

It's common knowledge that Rose (and Martha) will be back in this series for at least one episode. In fact, Rose has already put in an appearance this series[;)]

everythingat -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (4/16/2008 6:32:45 AM)

Well, she will actually be in three episodes, but that's apparently not including cameos. So she can make an appearance in quite a few more. I kind of ruined some of the season for myself by reading the episode guides. But I can say the plots are superb from what I read.

What I was talking about with the Pompeii episode is if the lady's "prophecy" was a reference to the return of Rose...kinda like how Bad Wolf appeared in the first season. I really can't say anymore than that without going into major spoilers on the Rose plot line later in the season.

One more night (here in the US)...

Just checked on SciFi.com and I think what you're getting on tomorrow (18th) is what we had as the Christmas Special in 2007 - Voyage of the Damned.

Series 4 "proper" starts for you on 25th April, with the episode entitled "Partners in Crime". [:)][:)]

doinkdom -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (4/18/2008 11:45:10 AM)

they've been advertising it as the new season premiere with the Doctor's Back and all[&o]

bummer

a whole nuther week?

stateofgrace -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (4/18/2008 1:32:37 PM)

This is the same format SciFi has followed with the last two seasons (although we have gotten much closer to the UK in airing). SciFi does the "Christmas Special" as the first episode of the new season, which we get...whenever. April is much better than September or July. An unexpected side effect of the US writer's strike (although I think I could have held out till July for The Doctor if we'd gotten more episodes of Pushing Daisies and Chuck, and possibly Heroes).

doinkdom -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (4/18/2008 2:22:59 PM)

I should probably pay more attention [8|]

[:)]

manda59 -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (4/19/2008 7:52:00 AM)

So, did any of our US friends watch Voyage of the Damned last night?[:)]

Sideways -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (4/19/2008 11:27:45 AM)

I did! I liked it a lot; certainly the ending was unexpected, as I was rolling my eyes (at first) at the predictability of the storyline, and suddenly... it wasn't so predictable.

I also watched the first regular episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures. I like it, actually. Sure, it's a bit different, but the characters are enjoyable enough for me to give the show a real try.

manda59 -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (4/19/2008 2:15:46 PM)

LOVED Episode 3 tonight!! The Ood were wonderful! [:)][:)]

Hmmmm moment at the end though - hmmmm. agapetos will know what I mean - I won't give it away for the rest of you, but will wait till you've seen it.

everythingat -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (4/19/2008 6:16:22 PM)

Three solid episodes so far. I'm impressed by this season, especially after the sketchy Voyage of the Damned. Catherine Tate is alright. Overacts, but for the most part...and it's nice that there aren't those awkward love moments between them. More *SPOILERS* ahead...

So...the bees are disappearing, hints at the Doctor's death, and the prophecy "She(Rose) will be returning"? I'm sure these will all be connected in later episodes. Well, I'm certain considering I've annoyingly read the spoilers. I can never wait when it comes to things like that. The last episode of this season is going to be amazing.

Yes, I found it better than I expected, likely because my expectations were lowered by the UK reviews. A little bloated, I think. It would have been better as an hour long.

All in all, a night with a lot of death on SciFi, considering the body count on Doctor Who, and then...BattleStar Galactica.

That's why you should watch Sarah Jane first, give you some light stuff before all the depression. [8D] I seriously had to fast forward some parts of BSG.

Voyage was a little bloated, but as far as the new companion not having all the awkward love moments... well, I liked the semi-romantic moments with Rose, but I started to loose interest with Martha. She wasn't as interesting a character, and her crush on the Doctor was a little pathetic.

manda59 -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (4/19/2008 11:04:28 PM)

Sideways

I'll be interested to read what you think of the Doctor's "proper" new companion when the series starts next week with "Partners in Crime". [:)]

The one you saw in Voyage was an Australian singer making a guest appearance. Her name is Kylie Minogue.

The new companion "proper" is called Catherine Tate (character name Donna Noble), who is better known in the UK as a comedienne.

Body count continued, as last night was the season finale of Torchwood on BBC America.

AHEM!!! *drums fingers on desk*

Torchwood Thread

I got all excited then when I saw that there was a new post in the Doctor Who thread - only to get all disappointed when I saw what it was about. [8|]

Me too ~ and I watched it again this evening!

I heard those words from the Ood and wondered too[&:]

What are you thinking of Donna now? The Dr seemed to get a bit irritated at her at one point, but she's making him think about things he's never thought about before (like treatment of the Ood). I wonder if it's an advantage for me that I've never really watched her in anything else except the 'Do I look bovered?' trailers that Beeb2 (I think) ran a while back.

I normally watch episodes twice too - once with my husband and daughter, and then the next day with my son (because he normally works Saturday evenings). But this week, he wasn't working, and watched it with us, so I didn't record it - though now I wish I had! I think I might just invest in I-Player, so that I can!

There is a LOT of speculation on the Doctor Who forums (yes, I'm a saddo, I've joined two, lol) - if you want to talk about it more, pm me. [;)]

I thought she did ok in this episode. Still found her annoying in parts when she seemed to lapse into a couple of her cameos, but I admired the way she acted empathically towards the Ood, and was very convinced by it.

I think it probably is.

I watched it on Beeb3 (so nice to finally have digital!). There are very few programmes I'll watch twice, but that's worth it[;)]

I tried iplayer a while back ~ my 'puter is so slow it really didn't work for me. I think I needed more memory for it to work properly.

I watched Dr Who confidential and 'Donna' was speaking and said 'Myself and the Dr' and then corrected herself by saying 'That should be the Doctor and myself shouldn't it?' No Donna, it should have been 'The Doctor and I'[&:]

Yes...there should be a Dalek smiley.....(I used to say "Darlek" too, but my kids corrected me rather quickly.....)[:D] "Exterminate!" Okay, so I'm responding to a comment on the last page....It's complicated....all that wibbly wobbly, timey-whimey stuff.....(my spelling checker is freaking out....)

Yes....It's late and I'm overly tired.....[sm=smile-l.gif]

doinkdom -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (4/21/2008 11:27:26 AM)

NO[sm=crystreams.gif]!!!!!

Our recorder dealy recorded the WRONG thing! grrrrr[:@]

[&o]

That has been corrected and I look forward to the real season starting this week!

Sideways -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (4/22/2008 10:43:31 AM)

For those who watched classic Doctor Who... was there always this many casting changes?

I believe Sarah Jane was a companion for 4 seasons, but she went through 2 different Doctors. It's been difficult to really get into the show, when I'm constantly having to adjust to new people. I really liked Doctor Nine, and I got used to Doctor Ten, but a new companion all the time? [:'(]

agapetos -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (4/22/2008 10:51:35 AM)

While I don't always like the new doctor or new companion, I don't think the changes are necessarily bad ~ they can introduce a freshness and (with regard to the doctor) a new aspect of his character.

I don't recall the doctor and companion changing at the same time, so there is really one one person to get used to. I frequently have problems with larger casts because of concentration problems. Dr Who is great because it eliminates this problem[:D]
