If folks are going to turn blue in the face because they're getting needled by Ben Stein, then perhaps they've become a bit too "dogmatic" for their own good. Furthermore, the inability to remount a response to ID more coherent and reasoned than spittle-flecked rage does not augur well for much of the scientific community, or at least the portion that's reared its head so far with respect to this issue.

I just read on Yahoo news that Yoko Ono wants to sue over the use of "Imagine" in the movie.

adoptedson -> RE: Ben Steins movie "Expelled" (4/25/2008 3:47:26 PM)

I came across this site while searching for Expelled info and am happy to find other Christians discussing the film. Stien is working with Lee Strobel to get info packages to churches and students for free (except postage and handling). I don't see anything wrong with being educated in scientific discovery. God reveals his truth in all creation. It is the human mind that rejects the truth set before him. Of course we are to be loving and understanding of the unbeliever. Look at what the world offers, especially in the States. Who needs God? We should seize any opportunity to be educated and share our understanding with anyone that God puts in our path. Whether it is in the realm of science (has any one read 'The Privileged Planet?), or world religions, cults, new age, quantum philosophy, whatever it may be, we should be learning so that we can offer ourselves to God and preach the truth of the Gospel. Movies like 'Expelled' will do service to the minds of humans, even if it is just a few. They are steps closer to the living God, and steps closer to His love and forgiveness that lead to...wait, what is it? That's right! Eternal life! I'm so proud of you! One Lord! One Spirit! Unity of mind! What are we here for if not to spread the Gospel? To sit and wait for Jesus to return? Lets go back to scripture. Paul was working his butt off to spread the Good News. He gave up his earthly life for the future life to preach the message. The least we could do is see this movie and help promote others to see it and possibly get some stubborn people to look at another side. You know, soften them up a little. O.K. So Dawkins may be unreachable, for now. The Bible tells us that every knee will bend and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. It also says, "Salvation is now!". Every one that hears the message and believes receives. Don't apologize for being zealous and excited and writing what you write in these replies. It comes from our hearts that are hoping is Jesus! We just need to be controlled, and loving when we witness to others. This was supposed to be a reply to the 'Expelled' forum, right? Whatever.

My wife and I saw the movie last Saturday. I walked out of the theater mad and yet with some hope as well. I really had no idea this was going on. It is a shame that people are being treated this way simply because they mention "Inteligent Design", not even saying God,I was a little shoked when Ben Stine went to Germany to see the results of Hitler's raign. I did not understand his reasons for the war until then. To try to make a superior race is foolish. And to people just because they had a deformity, my soul what was he thinking? These things are really scarry. I think about what our children are being taught in school without our permission is somothing that must be brought to the school boards attention. If we are to ever get God back into the schools, we must do our part as Christians and stand up for what we believe. We can no longer just watch the school teach our children what they want to. What will the Lord say to us when we stand before him when we get to heaven?
I erge everyone to go see this movie. It will really open your eyes and help you to see what is really going on out there. Please see it! Remember "The way to let evil reign is to do nothing".

PROPHETSONG -> RE: Ben Steins movie "Expelled" (4/26/2008 2:22:14 PM)

Amen My brother we have a war to fight, and the Lord already has struck the decisive blow at Calvary, the only way we can lose is not to fight. This is the Lord's battle and if we join the Lord's battle we will know the know the victory that comes not by might or power but by the Spirit of the Lord.
Now it is time to come up with battle plans. We start first by flooding capital hill with protest letters, then we start marching in protest, then we make an issue to have this put on voting ballots and start elcting officials that will do the will of the Lord.

I have not seen it, but I am planning on it. My church is promoting it to the congregation pretty heavily. I heard in the radio this morning that it came in at #9 for the box office numbers from over the weekend. I would think a lot of that came from churches promoting the movie.

That's great. Did this movie have a limited release? I wonder how that compares to other documentary movies that have been out in the last couple of years.

Had to drive to Wichita cause our theater couldn't guarantee 1,000 people.

I was able to choke down my laughter at all of the anti-ID comments until near the end when Dawkins made a comment that could be taken as aliens started life here.

...or maybe crystals...yes, crystals would allow for ...

I LOL & so did ds2.

Ok, the 2 younger boys weren't as thrilled as we were with the movie.

Ben Stein was cracking me up meeting people in coffee shops. Plus, his suit with tennis shoes. The western shoot out with the cowboy shooting the guy then saying, "dirty creationist".

When he visited the concentration camp & mental hospital it was heart wrenching watching him.

wareaglekd -> RE: Ben Steins movie "Expelled" (4/28/2008 11:31:49 AM)

I think as Christians, what we gather from this film is that it confirms what we already know. For everyone else, it seems to just add more fuel to the fire & the fight continues.

For me, the most important thing that I can see to come from this film & the work after it will be Ben Stein's salvation. We should pray for him & the continuing work of this. His eyes have been opened to the truth & if he continues the effort, the Holy Spirit will claim him. I'll be more excited about that then how many people actually see the movie. I think I can see the angels lining up right now w/ a round of applause! kd

So I am wondering about the PG-13 rating. I don't get that. Any of my kids could have gone to that show and I would have not been worried about them seeing or hearing anything that they would not have been able to handle or should not have seen or heard at their ages. It would have been over my eight and 10 years old's head probably, but not my 11 year old. What is with that?!!! When you consider some of the garbage that they push through on even a G rated film these days, I just don't get that! Ridiculous!!!

I think it probably had to do with the rather direct discussion dealing with the activities going on in Nazi Germany.

Either that or simply the exposure to anything Richard Dawkins says is considered too toxic for younger viewers; all parents should be warned about that.

That being said, I am going with a group again this weekend, and I have been asked to lead a discussion aftewards.

selahgirl -> RE: Ben Steins movie "Expelled" (5/1/2008 3:32:09 PM)

yeah, there's some kind of rating scale based on profanity and content markers that determines the rating. I'm thinking I remember a couple words, but I'm not sure. The death camps were disturbing, and there is always the possibility that things were fudged a little. Either way, parents should check it out before taking younger teens/children to see it, or read the spoiler on PLUGGED IN's review page to determine if it's appropriate for their child.

wareaglekd -> RE: Ben Steins movie "Expelled" (5/2/2008 2:05:54 PM)

Seeing as it's a documentary, most kids would be bored to tears w/ it. I know some one who's 27 & she was way too bored for this. I doubt I'd take any kids, even up through high school, to it. kd

I took my two boys, a twelve year old and an 11 year old - they enjoyed it; but we talk about this stuff all the time.

I suppose it has to do with the maturity level of the kid.

The MPAA is self regulating, it seems that movies that deal with anything that is "conservative" get a more restrictive rating than those that are more secular.

selahgirl -> RE: Ben Steins movie "Expelled" (5/3/2008 1:58:33 PM)

There is an upside to the PG-13 rating, it is more appealing to teens and college age. I know that sounds bad, but it's proven that movies with a G or PG rating aren't as appealing to young adults. Not all, but in general, considering the whole peer group thing of both secular and Christian. I know it would be wonderful for the majority of teens to prefer a PG movie, but they just don't. I'm not trying to make a statement either way, it's just what I've observed to be true among the young adults that I know... especially guys.

The movie itself is incredible, and the comedic presentation is excellent.
I consider ratings going in to a movie, but ratings are more of a general guideline -- necessary and valued, but just part of the packaging that is often discarded in the end.. I can't really measure the worth or offense of a movie until I've actually seen it or read the spoiler.

Thats because PG and G movies usually aren't as well done as the ones with the edgier ratings.

selahgirl -> RE: Ben Steins movie "Expelled" (5/3/2008 2:35:08 PM)

Yeah, that's true too. Especially when you consider comedians for example. There are some hysterically funny guys/gals out there, but they just aren't given the platform and movie roles that some of the edgier people are. But I must say that in recent years, there are alot of Godly people that are working to change that. It has come with much scrutiny and criticism, but a number of faithful professionals have plunged into the secular scene with a Godly anointing.

I love the Christian voices in Hollywood that God has made heard in recent years. They are going into those places and operating with the incredible giftings that God is pouring out in this hour of the church. Like the Clark Brothers and others who are unflinching in their Faith, yet who are outrageous in the talents that God has placed in their hands. God is providing platforms in places we would have never dreamed of in the church when I was a young Christian.

His Light is truly advancing and shining in dark places more and more in these last days.
I luv it!
^_^

I saw the movie yesterday. I thought that my ticket said PG. I do recommend the movie anyhow.

gmc4Jesus -> RE: Ben Steins movie "Expelled" (5/5/2008 11:54:16 PM)

My wife and I saw Expelled last week. We strongly recommend that everyone support this movie and take its message seriously.

Ben exposes the extreme bias and censorship that exists in our scientific community, colleges and journalists.

Ben also exposes the danger of eliminating any discussion of God from the scientific and academic communities.

It is interesting how tolerance and freedom of speech applies to some, but is prohibited to others.

GO SEE EXPELLED!

God bless America, and pray that America will get back to blessing God.

I watched the film on opening day. It was brilliantly done. I was just surprised that a right-wing documentary even made it to theaters.

It's already left my theater, but I'm in a college town. Go as quick as you can! k

Today is the last day here. I saw it a couple weeks ago and took my sons last night.
