Hi Everyone, I am at the hospital, visiting with my grandma. She isn't doing well, please pray for her. She will be here a couple more days. I haven't seen her in 5 years or so, but she looks very old now and very frail. I don't like the way she looks:( Keep her in your prayers please. I am very grateful that I was able to come up NOW just incase things turn for the worse.

Oh, homegrown, I am so sorry to hear your grammy is in the hospital. I will be praying. Grandparents are so special.

I still think of my grandma often, and she died 12 years ago. I am so grateful for all the time I got to spend with her at the end.

I am sure that just seeing you and your happy family is a comfort and joy to your grandmother.

Misaham,

Anyone can blow smoke. Once the ex-boss talks to the company attorney, and finds out your dh is not even doing the same kind of work and the company your dh is moving to is not technically a direct competitor, all the smoke will clear.

Really, I think you can totally relax on that one.

So, they still have to pay your dh even if they don't allow him to finish out the two weeks, don't they?

Dh has physical therapy this afternoon, but he's doing so much better that he's going to drive himself!! He is amazed at how far he can lift his legs up now! The stretching & walking are really helping! He can lift them farther than he's been able to in years!! He can get the left leg straight up & the right one almost there (the right one is the one he has the most nerve pain in).

Yay! So happy for ya'll, Amy!

We got in a little after one this morning. The boys are still asleep, naturally.

It was such a nice day. It's amazing to see how much kids grown and change in such a short time--we saw these friends in October. Nathan always hangs out with both his friend, N, and N's little sister J. For some reason the boys have never excluded J, which makes my Nathan one of her favorite people He is 1.5 yrs older than N, and J is only 8.5 right now. It has never been a problem-my poor unsocialized kids don't know they are supposed to age-segregate-but it was hilarious yesterday because now Nathan is considerably taller and visibly older than the other two. He used to be right about the same height as N--too close in sizes for hand-me-downs, even. They had so much fun, though. Nerf wars all day long.

I have been to feed Sadie and keep her company. She's kinda clingy and depressed with Beemer gone. Now I think I am ready for a nap, though.

Amy, I'm glad your dh is doing so well.

Jen, don't tell me your boys were having fun with kids who aren't their ages again! What are we gonna do with them?

Melissa, let me know when you're up here and settled a bit and we'll do lunch or something.

I have to shop today. All us girls need "delicate unmentionables" and a few other things. The boys need pants. I have to grocery shop tomorrow. Ugh. I wish I could afford to just order everything online and have it delivered.

Sounds great! I was wondering if anyone is in the area.

Thanks for all the prayers and kind words, everyone! It is tough not to get stressed, but God is in control, and we know it!!

Ellie,

Do not read Cindy's post above OUT LOUD... she mentions UNMENTIONABLES...

speaking of unmentionables... LOL! no really it made me remember to tell you that I got my pans and such two weeks ago. NICE! and that apple peeler thing works GREAT on the small taters that come in those 10 pound bags. I'd never try to use it on one of those big baking type taters though. made us some yummy scalloped taters and au'gratin taters and... I don't think it has been used for an apple yet.

Speaking of unmentionables, I lost one of my two decent bras and can't find it ANYWHERE, and then last night the other one broke!

I guess I won't be leaving the house anymore...

Jennifer--is there something you aren't telling us??? I'd offer to loan you some of mine, but I'm stuck shopping in the jr's dept.

Having a not-so-good day here. I had yet another really bad swim this morning. Going back and forth between my two coaches (swim and tri) deciding where to go from here. I'm ready to quit.

Testing is going okay. Ds1 is done for the day. Ds2 and ds3 have one to go. Ds4 somehow messed up his answers, so we have to go back through and figure that out. Happened yesterday, too.

LOL, no, I don't even know how or why it broke...I thought it was fine the last time I put it on, but this morning I found I was wrong.

I have unmotivated, crabby kids this morning. No fun.

I called the office and the still don't know who they are hiring for YCC, and we are getting a little impatient around here!

It says 'participating stores' so I guess we'll just have to check ours.

Does anyone have eperience with a homeschool graduate attending nursing or veterinary school? A friend has a daughter wanting to do the latter but has been hearing that for any medical program they require an actual diploma, not a homeschool diploma, not one accredited by some institution but a real school's diploma. Any info?

Jennifer, I have never heard any such thing. It is true that there are still colleges that give trouble over a homeschool diploma, but if worse came to worse, one could get a GED. Is one of your boys interested in nursing school? If this is the case, there are ways to improve his chances of getting into nursing school. One would be actually working in the hospital, as at least in our area, the hospital helps finance the nursing program in the community college.

No, neither of my kids, but Brandon's friend wants to be a vet and her mom has been told by three different ladies lately that they or their daughters have not been able to get into nursing school because they only had a homeschool diploma. If it had only been one incident she wouldn't be concerned but here she is partway through high school already and unsure of what is needed. WSU is the closest vet school and their vet students have to have a BA (or nearly so) prior to entering the program, so one would think it wouldn't matter, but then, nurses already have a year or two of college upon entering nursing school as well...it's crazy, really. A PS diploma doesn't mean much these days, after all.

That is bizarre, Jenn! I think here in NC it is law that home schooled diplomas must be accepted at face value in public institutions of higher learning.

The only trouble I have heard of is the Police Academy in Manatee County, FL. Isn't that a real puzzle? Why would they not want home schooled candidates to be police officers?

Even more puzzling to me, when I recommended to the local home school support group leader (my good friend) that the family call HSLDA, she was way against it. HSLDA might sue, and then the student in question would face bad blood if he got accepted that way.

I was scratching my head. If it was my son's desire, I would call HSLDA for sure. I don't what else you can do!

In Florida, home school student's cannot be discriminated against at state schools, and they are eligible for Bright Futures scholarships along with all other students. They are also allowed to dual-enroll for sports, foreign language, etc. Generally the state and the home school community work together to make a better state for all.

The Police Academy is getting away with it because they are refusing ALL non-regionally-accredited diplomas. So if you go to Community Christian School, they won't accept you either.

Don't know about the GED angle, but a lot of people seem dead set against that route also.

It's not like you have to wear a T-shirt that says "I got my GED" if you take the test, ya know?

This very morning I had to tell a company that I have a GED. I am nearly THIRTY THREE YEARS OLD. I may not have a wear a t-shirt but it definitely follows me. I even have several years of college.

You will all be thrilled, I am sure, to know that I have located my missing bosom support system.

I wish my husband had a GED to tell prospective employers that he had it. Sadly, his public school education (all the way through 11th grade) left him unable to write in complete sentences.

I called the office to find out if Brandon got a YCC position. They said they hadn't gotten around to doing the drawing and the person in charge may not even be aware that it's his job Pardon me, but we have a summer to plan!

Nate is taking a Digital Photography course at the community center. It isn't on taking the photos, it's on manipulating them. He is very excited. I had to call to see if they'd let him though, lol, since he's only 12. Fortunately we don't live very far at all from where the class is, so he can bike down there.

Which is precisely why I don't think a PS diploma means anything, lol...he was only a year away from one, after all.
