Nicole- that sounds like fun! Glad you had a good time.

We haven't done much this weekend. DH and I tend to end up in the twilight zone for one reason or another on weekends and tend to just hole up at home and veg. I did pick up a roomba vacuum at a garage sale yesterday, and I love it!

Beth- no you haven't missed anything. I am still in Latin America- I move back to the US in June. But you know how teaching jobs are - trying to find a job in the summer can be difficult. A lot of schools in Oklahoma like to hire before the summer so that the principals can enjoy their vacations

I am starting to look for items for my house. I need to make a list of the requirements that I want in items like stove, refridgerator, bed, washer/dryer - those sorts of things. It is funny - on the large items I am willing to pay out some money so that they will last for a long time. But on other things, I am all for garage sells and that sort of thing. I was all about buying a place setting for 8 yesterday from the 70s for under $20, but I am willing to pay over $500 for a decent bed This is going to be fun though since I have yet to have my own house where I could choose things and have things my way. The thing is that some great deals could come up on items and I am just going to have to trust my family to buy things that I like. They found me a good car, so I guess they can handle household items

Hope everybody has a great Monday. I am starting a short week (only 3 days with kids) so it should be a great week!!!

Kylie ~ Just now saw your post about the orientation (I forgot the word you used...lol) for work. Isn't that the way it always is...they don't send you until you've already figured out your job on your own and even then you sit there thinking that only 2% of it would have actually helped anyway. I tell ya, I've been to lots of 'trainings' and I have yet to go to one that the 'useful' part couldn't have been just sent to me as a one page email and saved my travel and their expense!

Stacy ~ you just described me and my DH...unless we're going on a weekend out of town get-away we hardly leave the house...Usually I'll go to the grocery on Saturday and to church on Sunday...but that's pretty much it...and DH usually doesn't leave from the time he gets home on Friday until he goes to work on Monday morning. I think we just all spread ourselves so thin through the week that we need time to recharge batteries!

Beth ~ I'm like you...there are some things that I'm willing to spend the money on to have 'just so' but others I'm out for the best bargain I can get...and I love garage sales...I haven't been to one in ages...but I used to go out hunting them sometimes on Saturdays.

I am the same way, I have some inexpensive stuff but most of the newer stuff costs more because I'd rather pay for quality.

Orientations and training classes are mostly useless. My favorites are the anti harassment ones and other common sense stuff which the majority of people know how to behave but because ONE person is an idiot then they have to have those classes.

get the better kitchen stuff. I've been through 3 blenders and 2 hand mixers and I don't even use those things every day. Now I am replacing the ten dollar stuff with cuisinart and kitchen aid and they should last longer.

I hear you on the conferences. For my current position, we had a 2 week orinentation - 90% of it was stuff I already knew and so I spend most of the time on my computer trying to figure out how to get it sent in for repairs I made a lot of great friendships, but the main reason why we were there- to learn about the children we would be teaching and how to live in a new culture - I already knew. I had just spent a year living with a girl that would be similar to what I would be teaching (learned a lot more from her than I did from the seminars) and because I had just been on a 6 week cross-cultural expirence had heard most of the things about living in another culture. So yes- for the most part it was a waste of time and money for me but I can see why they have it because some people have not had the expirences that I have and sat there soaking in everything the speakers said.

Weekends- my preference is to stay home because I am an introvert and like to have that time by myself. However, I live in a house of extroverts and most of them like to go out and do things. I join them some since I look like a bad person when I don't, but if I could, I would stay home all weekend except maybe to go shopping and then go to church. This weekend was a weekend where I stayed home and it was very nice!! I got nothing done except resting and planning out my new house (that I know nothing about yet) which was fun. Now it is Sunday evening and time to get ready for a new week. I do need to get a lot done this next weekend. Since I am moving in 6 weeks, I need to start going through boxes, suitcases (which is my storage right now) and my closet to figure out what I want to keep and what I want to give away. I also need to take inventory of my kitchen so I know what I need to use up in the next 6 weeks. So it will probably be a busy weekend.

Thursday ~ sorry to hear about the swelling, if extra water and a bit of time propping them up doesn't make it better you really should get that checked.

They're getting better. It's also warming up here. Highs in the low hundreds until Thursday when it's supposed to be a chilly 95.

Yep, our principal likes to take care of things early too. But there are still people who don't let you know until September that they're not coming back. Of course, that would be less likely to happen if you didn't lose your housing allowance by letting them know you won't be returning.

You'd LOVE Friday market then. Just don't get appliances there. The frig and microwave were duds but the stove/oven is fine. Except I have no temperature controls on my oven. The right side is about 350, the left side is about 450, and so I just position accordingly.

Not only is it hotter than a popcorn fart (one of Mom's expressions), but the haze mentioned on Weather Underground doesn't even begin to describe it. I don't know if it's a duststorm or not, but definitely very high dust at the least. Ugh! So the girls are playing Heads Up 7 Up in the classroom to stay out of the dust.

I don't know if I've mentioned it or not but my parents have a new career. They deliver bodies for the mortuary where they live. The other day they took to the airport the body of a woman who'd been killed in another state and had her body stuffed into a plastic container and driven in the killer's trunk to our state. Actually they went by way of a town about an hour south of us so I'm not really sure what the destination. Dad says the killer looks pleasant and friendly as he waves for the cameras on his way to hearings, etc. Ever get TMI from your parents? I always figured their TMI would be of a different nature, not from their WORK! LOL

Well, off to cuop. Ciao, ladies.

Goodeth morning/afternoon!

The sun is shining again! It is supposed to go up to 20C today which is awesome! I was outside for about 2 minutes yesterday and my face is tanned. We went furniture shopping. We found the perfect couch and loveseat and were going to buy it, but decided to ask the sales person if there was any way we could get a deal on the set. He added us to an invitation only list for May 9th so we can get 20% off! We will save over $440!! There will be free food and door prizes so that will be cool! We will just see about it getting delivered to our next rental place on June 1st so we don't wreck it by moving it twice this year. We may even get a flat screen tv and surround sound for our den in the place that is being built if we can get a good deal! I cannot wait to have a movie room! We have always wanted one! We already found the sectional we want to buy, but we will wait till we actually move in to buy it to make sure it will fit.

Thursday ~ That's horrible about what happened to that young woman. There was a case a decade or so ago where a guy out in the midwest somewhere (OK, I think???) Was killing young women and storing them on his property in barrels/drums...found out a few years after the story broke that one of his victims was the cousin of my (then) husband who'd been missing for several years before he was caught. (Took that long to identify remains and such) I hear stories like that and just can't imagine the evil that must be within someone to do such things.

Nicole ~ How great of the salesperson to actually tell you about that...most would just try to get you to take it right then (after all that's what they are trained and told to do)

I can't stand story's like that. A friend of my sister's was killed an buried near our home when I used to bike a long time ago. It still breaks my heart. We are glad my sister wasn't playing with her at the time. It was such a nightmare and still makes me tear up when I think of it. I still remember quite vividly the helicopter shining its lights into our home and all around our neighbourhood looking for her.

Lisa, we had so many sales people bothering us that day. He was the only one that wasn't rude, pushy or annoying. One lady actually made me cringe. I politely said (while smiling) "we are just looking, but thank you for asking" when she asked if she could help us in a very rude way. She looked at me with a really mad look and just stared then walked away looking annoyed. The dude that helped us helped us a bit after she asked us for help. The whole time he was talking to us she just paced back and forth looking very angry towards him. It was retarded... He wasn't going to tell us, but then decided he should because we did ask. In all my years of going to that store with my family we were never invited to this sale. So we are quite happy! Saving money is always a good thing. We wanted to buy a really good set so we are happy we will be saving money on it.

G'day everybody. How are you all doing today? Me? I'm nervously waiting for my first exercise session with the rehabilitation physiologist later on this morning. (It's the early hours of Tuesday morning here). I hear it's going to be painful for the next few weeks.

Where is everyone?

I'm here. Haven't been around CW much though the last few days. Been too busy baking cakes for the neighbours. Just something I do every now and again, then just go and surprise them all. The neighbours we know best are kind of used to it, but others of them ask why we're giving cakes away. Fundraising, wanting money, alterior motives. It's sad that people just aren't used to somebody just wanting to give somebody else something to bless them.

That is such a great thing to do Trish.

Thanks Nicole.

Nicole(CN), I can understand too why some would be suspicious if somebody turned up trying to give away free goods too. Wondering if the person had some kind of ulterior motive. I just think it's really sad that society has gone the way that now we do become suspicious of somebody for doing something nice. Oh well. I felt like the Lord was asking me to do it, so I was just being obedient. It'd be great if people came along to church with me, but if not, I'm happy just to be planting seeds into those people and let somebody else reap the harvest.

Thursday, I hope the swelling continues to decrease. It's really painful having that happen.

Beth, congrats on the job offer.

Trish, it would be nice not to be so suspicious hey? Now, if a neighbour that I already knew came and gave us a cake I wouldn't feel suspicious at all. I would just feel that way if I didn't even know the person.

Nicole- yay for new furniture! I HATE going into furniture stores because the salespeople just follow me even when I tell them I'm only looking.

I'm a strong introvert, and DH is just a little less so, but when we stay in all weekend I tend to get claustrophobic and bored. I spend all day around people though, so who knows.

So.... It is 11:30 pm and I am still wide awake. The frustrating part is I came home from work at 5 with a migraine. I laid down, darkened the room and rested till it got better. It started to get better around 8 pm. So I was thinking - cool I can get some things done for a couple of hours and then go to bed. I really didn't get much done (worked on looking at appliances ) but by 9:30 figured I would be ready to sleep for the night. Nope- I think I have slept for about 20 mins so far in two hours trying to go to sleep. This is the second night in a row that I have had trouble going to sleep ( I had no caffeine this evening). Because I couldn't go to sleep last night, I had a couple cups of coffee this morning - something though in the second cup messed me up because I was jittery (so I was thinking the caffeine) and shaky (I have issues with my blood sugars - so the sugar in the coffee) all day long. So after that, I had no more caffeine on the day - though that was hard when I came home with the headache since not having caffine is a triager for me. (I did have some caffine afterschool thinking about it now- I had it about the time the headache started to come on - middle of staff meeting- that is always a good time for one ). Anyway, none of that was asking for advice or anything - just randoming talking because my body wants to go to sleep, but apparently my mind is not there yet.

My day was okay considering that I really didn't feel like myself most of the day. I once again made a slightly stupid decision though - and of course my boss was there when I did it. I wish I could figure out why I can't think through things very well because it is becoming frustrating to me as well as my boss in the fact that I keep doing things that he knows I know better than to do. Makes me think of the passage in Romans 7 - the things I know I should do I don't do, and the things I don't want to do, I still find myself doing!!!!! I keep making decisions that I know are not good- but I don't realize that I have made them until after I have made them. While I haven't physically hurt a child or somebody has gotten hurt by my decisions, they still have not been very good. The thing that scares/frustrates me is that my new adminstrator (for next year) hasn't talked to my current one that I know of. I only sent her my resume which did not include my references. So in some ways, this is good since I don't think my current boss has a good word to say for me (and in many ways I would have to agree with him) and so she doesn't know all of the stupid decisions I keep making. I will be able to move and start over- hopefully being able to do my job better than I am now. But, I am scared in case she does ask for his contact information (which she has every right to do) and what he would have to say. Again, these are not life or death decisions - they are just little things that I can't seem to do right - but every time I make a bad decision, it seems like my boss just happens to be there. They say that teachers make the most decisions in a day out of any other profession. I of course have not gotten board enough while teaching to count how many decisions I make during the day, but I do know that it is a lot. But if I made 100 decisions in a day with 99 of them being good and right, why does it seem like he is always there for my 1 mistake/stupid decision of the day????? Again- I am just blowing off steam because I can't sleep. Probably could use a little bit of encouragement right now, but other than that, I will probably make it. I just needed to write out my frustrations of the past couple of weeks so that maybe I can sleep.

Okay- I am off to try to sleep now. Thanks for reading all of my random thoughts- that is what happens when you have a headache and can't go to sleep- your brain is no longer really working correctly

((Beth))- legally (at least in the US) all a former employer is allowed to say about you is the dates that you worked there and whether or not you are re-hireable. Things that would make you not re-hireable are REALLY bad- like hurting kids or stealing from the principal or cheating on tests or something. Anything other than employment history has to come through letters of reference- which should all be good if you choose the right people to write them for you. I know that feeling though- I left my first teaching job mid-year on so-so terms and I was really worried that it would be hard to get hired for a 2nd job, until I learned that they couldn't legally say much about me.
I hope you get some sleep.

I'm feeling creative and restless and wanting to get out my sewing machine, but its after 9pm and I'm not sure what to work on at the moment. I just ordered a rotary cutter on ebay so I'd like to wait for that to come, but it will probably take until at least the end of the week to get here. I have so much fun fabric stashed right now that I've got the itch to do something with it, but not the concentration to figure out what to do.

Thanks for the encouragement Stacy - my boss though has to be one of my references right now based on the fact that they want several professional references and he is the only administrator I have had. But it is good to know that he really can't say a lot. And I think that overall he would say that I am re-hirable - so long as he isn't talking to somebody right after I have done something stupid (again this is like not following rules to the final dot type stuff- nothing big or that threatens a child's life).

Well, I manage to get a few hours of sleep, but not nearly as many as I would have liked. The other thing is after I reacted yesterday to the coffee, I really don't want to repeat that, so I can't have any coffee to help me wake up this morning . The headache is mostly gone!!!!!!!!!!!!! so hopefully it will stay away today so that I can be a nice teacher that actually listens to the children when they complain about something instead of telling them just to get busy (in a nice way of course ) Have a great day everybody!!

Yes, ladies, there are some evil people out there. Did you hear about the man in Austria who kept his daughter locked in the basement for 24 years, since she was 18, and has 6 children with her? She actually had 7 children but one died shortly after birth and he burned the body in the oven. His wife (her mother) lives upstairs and none of them knew they were down there. Three of the kids were living upstairs with them, supposedly because she couldn't take care of them. The other 3 had never seen the light of day before being rescued the other day. The 5 year-old was excited at the idea of riding in a car for the first time.

Beth- I'm sorry about your headache. I used to get migraine-like headaches. I started seeing the chiro when I was pregnant with the twins and they went away. Then they started back up a year or so ago so I've found good drugs through the Ministry clinic. One KD, see a doctor, and get all the meds you need.

No taekwondo for the kids the rest of week so I'm happy. I don't have to take them anywhere and get them picked up. I can go home and relax after school.
