E wants her own copy of The Bell Jar. March isn't very springy here most years either. But this week and last week weren't too springy either. We had spring break the week of March 17, and then no additional Easter break since it coincided with spring break. In Feb. we have President's day off (teacher in-service) and then two days off at the end of the month for conferences. No week off in Feb. I don't think that I'd ever heard of a week off in Feb. until Donna mentioned it this year. In the past there has been at least a day off for Easter when it's not part of spring break. There used to be another in-service day in April too that they dropped since the seniors don't have to do and present senior projects any more. Then we get out May 20 something too. The Wednesday before Memorial Day I think. So that's a good stretch without a break, but for the elementary kids at least there are some things to break the routine, like field days, field trips, and such. Dee

Our last day of school is June 5th this year. We have spring break this week, then we don't have another break until May 26th for Memorial Day. We have state testing the second and third weeks of May, which is a break from homework and projects.

Kath: Ds's post surgery directions indicate that he was not to rinse for 12 hours. The next day he was to rinse with warm salt water 5-6 times per day (after meals and bedtime). After 3 days he was to start rinsing with the irrigating syringe. It's interesting how everyone has different recovery instructions. I don't know how frequently my ds rinsed each day since he is almost 20 and I could only "nag" so often. He was a little grumpy since they were removed Christmas week. He only had two impacted teeth removed. The top teeth are still in place and are erupting on their own.

Hey everyone! Some good news here! I know I mentioned sometime back that our art teachers dd (all of 22 years old) is fighting her 2 fight with breast cancer. Well the art teacher has been out a lot taking care of her dd and dealing with the dr's and such. BUT she (the teacher) was back at school today and I guess yesterday as well and upon talking to her today I learned that her dd has managed to stay out of the hospital for 3 weeks now!!!! That has been the longest stretch since Christmas! The art teacher is hoping to make it at least a week or two before she has to head back over to Chicago and her dd again. Only 11 more days of daily trips to get Ty from play practice/performances and then Soccer starts up. Blessings, Garsy

I don't think the clot should come out. A clot is a scab. It should absorb into the body, particularly being in the mouth, which heals differently than dry skin. Brian didn't have clots coming out after his teeth were pulled. They just kind of went away.

First day of spring break and it's raining. The kids are going wacky and I'm tempted to just let them go out and splash around in the puddles. Except for it's a cold rain, and three of them woke up yesterday morning with coughs and snot noses (I think allergies).

Pray for my brave little DeeDee. Yesterday, 3 kids (2 girls) were intimidating one of DeeDee's friends. The young man broke up with one girl and she, her buddy and the buddy's boy friend were threatening him. He came in and confided in DeeDee and another young lady who has impulse problems(IP). IP was in line behind one of these girls and when she turned around, IP decked her. Of course IP is in trouble, and rightly so. But I told DeeDee that she has to go in and tattle. Why? The young lady can do no wrong and IP has been in trouble several times before. It wouldn't change the bad choice she made, but it may explain it to the school and cause EVERYONE'S behavior to improve. And, if the threat was serious, it needs to be dealt with seriously. The third choice is that the little boy was telling tales and he needs to see the consequeses. DeeDee said they will hate her if she tattles and I asked if they would like her if she said nothing. It is the right thing to do but oh so hard. My little girl has a very compassionate and empthetic heart and is brave enough to do the right thing. I called to check and the principal knew and was planning to talk to her at lunch time. So tired of mean kids.

Except for it's a cold rain, and three of them woke up yesterday morning with coughs and snot noses (I think allergies). Hi you guys! Sorry I haven't checked in here lately. It has just not been a good time. Anyway, Donna, too bad it was a cold rain. I used to always let my kids splash around when it would downpour as long as there was no lightening. They loved it. Our spring break is well over, and we have 9 more weeks of school until vacation. I can't wait. I do wish that I could homeschool because I would. But I know I would not do my kids any good and we do have a great school system. Right now eventhough spring has sprung and spring break has been over for a few weeks, we are getting snow. I am sooooo sick of this weather. Soccer season started, and we haven't been able to practice because the fields are all mush. The farm fields are all completely under water to the point where there are ducks swimming on them. I don't know when the farmers are going to be able to prep their fields. But at the same time, this should be doing our watertable some good. The farmers should have a great bunch of water to draw from when they need to water the fields. If they even get to plant their fields.

I would let them splash during a summer rain, with no lightning as you said. Spring rains are too cold though. It has been a beautiful day today though. We went grill shopping at Lowe's and Walmart today, took all the kids, got free hot dogs and sodas for customer appreciation day (woohoo! free lunch!), and they were pretty good. We ended up with a 4-burner from Walmart. Put it on the credit card and will pay for it when our tax stimulus thing shows up in our account in a couple weeks. We'd have just waited, but our grill has completely died and we're planning on BBQing with friends next weekend. This is the first brand new grill my honey has had in his life. He's pretty happy, which makes me happy. After we got back from that, the kids spent the rest of the day outside. We all cleaned up the yard together and got the garden ready for my dad's rototiller, then they played in the still wet sand box so they're all a mess. But it was a good day and we all had fun.

Eww, Kathy, prom already? I don't think we have to worry about that until May. That is when we choose NOT to eat out anywhere. My son has been invited to dances this year, and I am glad that he said no because I didn't want to tell him no. He still has no interest in girls or in hygene. So is this going to be like an explosion? Is he going to wake up one day wanting to date, and spending more time in the bathroom trying to look and smell good than I do? Well, I guess he does that now because I don't put that much effort into myself. As long as I am clean and my hair is not sticking up all over the place, I am good to go. He is turning 12 in May. Everybody tells me that he is starting, but I don't see it. Am I just blind or could he really not be interested?

Well, Mike all of a sudden showed an interest in his hair and taking a bath every morning before school when he was 15, so yeah, it does sort of explode all of a sudden. I was so surprised at not having to fuss over him with his hair and such.

Well, Jake sure does stink. And he isn't the greatest at brushing his teeth and cleaning his mouth and gets mad when we make him go back and clean his teeth again or clean under his arms with a wipe and make him reapply his deodorant. I ask him if he notices the smell, and he doesn't while the rest of us are choking. I do hope he gets past that. We keep his hair short because even when I wash it, his head has an oder to it. I guess he is just going to have to watch it, or maybe it is his hormones starting to change. I don't know because I never had a boy before, and my ex doesn't even have him shower or brush his teeth. YUCK!

Brrrr. That is just crazy Kath. I looked at the radar one day earlier this week (Thursday?) and wondered if you were getting snow. Our prom is in a few weeks, hopefully it'll be warmer. Last year prom was about now, and I think that's when the pic in my avatar was taken. I hope you have spring for your BBQ next weekend Donna. How did things go MBee? My daughter got home a little late from work tonight because the girl she was working with was texting all evening. So we need to help her figure out how to handle that. Of course, she could have been working with one of the 2 girls that left on one of their breaks and didn't come back. Dee

I missed some posts there. I'm glad because my 13yo isn't interested in going to the dances for the most part. She still thinks boys are dumb and icky. She was the top AR reader so she got to go to McDs with the other two top readers, who were both boys. She wasn't really looking forward to that. She didn't remember even who they were. Then after they went she told me who it was. I know one of the boys, and he's always been a real nice, friendly kid as far as I could tell, so I said well, M is a nice kid. She sort of agreed. Kath, is that Linz in your avatar? Only the top half is showing up for me. What I can see is lovely though. Dee
