You'll get it. Have you ever taken anything like "NOExplode" or other supplements? Dh used to take that and it worried me. He raved about how much his lifting increased but I always wondered if his strength increased or just his energy - which made me wonder if he just "thought" he could lift that much more and as flirting with an injury.

I've never really bought the "overtraining" argument. I think 99% of the time I've ever heard that, it's a cop out - used to hear that a lot in my old Weight Watchers days - trust me, those ladies weren't "overtraining." But I'm either coming down with something or I'm finding out overtraining is real. I wish I knew which it was. I'm totally wiped out! I'm not actually sore anywhere from my lifting on Monday. But I feel like my arms weigh 100 lbs each.

After that day last week when I taught 3 back to back classes, I definitely think I was "overtrained"; that's the day I felt like I had the flu. I kinda still feel that way now. I'd love to blame this on low-carbs but I'm not doing so hot on my low-carb plan. Last week, I averaged 147g Carbs/day...hardly extreme low carb to account for this plunge in energy.

What's my problem? I'm really liking the progress I'm seeing and don't want to drop intensity. I was also just asked to sub yoga tonight - loving the money I'm making at this new gym too! Is there a supplement that'll give me a boost? I've got a B12 thing - maybe I'll chug one of those this afternoon. Maybe I'll take a nap too!

its probably overtraining.

taking monday off and going "light"(haha i love how light for me is actually more than most at my gym can do even if they've been going for years) today my legs feel much much better.

problem is you dont realize it cause reaching overtraining happens over time, and you are just a bit more tired every time, but you still have progress.

IMO from now on if i feel like NOT squatting cause i love squatting then its probably overtraining. also being tired, or feeling ill.
granted if im still making progress ill keep going. but if the above are coupled with stalling or even my reps reducing for 2-3 consecutive workouts then its time to deload or take a day or two off.

im just glad i learnt overtraining so early instead of much later in my "career"

problem is, i never EVER feel tired on my shoulders. sore sometimes but never tired. even during sets i cant even feel tired. normally during sets you rest till your muscles arent tired anymore. on my shoulders they are never "tired" so i never know how much to rest. thats why sometimes i get 4 reps and then if i go for a second set i may not even get 1 rep.

maybe ill just take a light day on friday for the shoulders just to make sure.. why not after all.

btw i havent taken any supplements other than protein whey. the reason being that they are all imported from the US anyway here and are way expensive. plus while olympic weightlifting is probably quite popular here compared to the US, powerlifting, strongman and bodybuilding are NOWHERE near as popular as there. there is no such thing as high school or college football or weightlifting.

and well.. olympic lifting pretty much prohibits so much stuff. even if they are law-wise legal, they are illegal for competing. im STILL (its been like 3 weeks) waiting for biotest to get new flameout(fish oil) so i can order flameout, superfood, z-12 and surge. 3/4 are food really and the z-12 are sleep aids so i doubt they are illegal.

in the end the cost comes a bit cheaper than if i bought them over here, but i trust biotest has better quality than the regular protein i find here in bodybuilding shops.

front squat
5*60, 2*100, 1*110, 1*125 PR!

it was awesome, this was pretty sure my max or very very close to it with good form. my form was perfect all throughout, it didnt throw me forward, i had to grind it for 3 seconds or 4 and i made a nice grunt at the end which made everyone at the gym to look at me hahahaha. i love those looks. one of em asked me how many kilos that was.

gonna continue now back again with 115 kgs for 3 reps... it will probably be doable "easily" so maybe ill go for 2 sets or 3. if i can get 2 or 3 sets ill just increase weight by 2.5 every workout.

ok so i dont think ill make the 150kgs by 6th july but im hoping 140 for 3 plates :D

anyway

overhead press
5*67.5

70 next

So I switched this week back to a workout I did a couple summers ago. It's a little more intense than the one I'd been doing. I just ran to the gym (after pulling weeds all morning!) and squeezed in a bi's/tri's workout...

Standing Barbell Curl...4x10 with the little bar that says 10 (my new gym)
Preacher Curls...4x10w/12s (this gym even has a preacher curl bench!)
Incline Curls...4x6w/15s
Low Pully Cable Curl...3x8@50

Weighted dips...3x12 w/35
Close Grip Bench Press...4x8w/bar+10s (Smith machine)
Cable Press Down...3x10@40
Lying Triceps...3x10w/12s

That was fun. Feel like jello! I'm going to try to get a nap before we have to go to a birthday party tonight.

I don't do the hanging...I sit on one bench with my heels on another with the weight in my lap. I usually do 45 but my wrist has been killing me so I wimped out actually. I like those, though! I do admit I enjoy working triceps - I caught them in the mirror today really popping! I think they've got more flattering lighting in this new gym too - which is really smart on their part!

That's quite a big difference for four months. I can't get any kind of definition in my quads - or anywhere to make me happy!

So dh's trainer, "Mr. Florida", was gracious enough to work up a meal and workout plan for me. Like I've said, I'd rather be taught what to do than told what to eat when. So I'm going through the meal plan now to figure it out. Today, for example, he's only got me eating 900 calories! I'm really not sure about that!! But it's like 59% protein. I need to look at it all more closely.

I did his first workout this morning though (Back) and it was pretty tough! It's got me doing Back, Chest & shoulders, Legs, and Bi/Tri's. Then abs 3x/week and cardio 4x/week...problem is, with me being limited to the time I can go when the kids can be in the kid room, it would take me 8 days/week to do all that. I guess I could do a couple days morning and evening to get it all in. But when I'm already doing that to teach 2-3 classes/week, that might be too much of a commitment even for my obsessive self! We'll see. Maybe it'll just depend on how many classes I get called to sub and whether dh has to do any travelling. And this week dd has a camp 9-Noon so I can't make my 8:30 cardio classes which will destroy any hope of getting in all that cardio - I just can't do it on my own! Not as much as he wants me to do anyway.

I do need to run to pick up dd now, though. When I look more at this plan, I'll let you know how that might look.

you know dan john on tnation? i once read that for a week he ate only meat and lots of water but slept a LOT and he lost a lot of pounds and inches off his waist. i still think though that what you are trying to do is pretty hard. its hard to lose at your age+female all of the fat you want to lose without having much muscle first. when i was first dieting down i think i got stuck at around 15% body fat or so. it was definitely above 12% though since i couldnt see abs and had love handles.

go for 8 days then. just cause 99% of programs are supposed to be the same every week doesnt mean if you do them every 8 days it will be much different. plus dont forget every person is different. you need to learn what works for you and how long it takes for you to recover

anyway today:
front squat
3*3*115 awesome! i knew that 125 single would add me strength and it did. it was close to failure though. next time 117.5
overhead press
2*70. the first rep was hard, the second was harder haha i was surprised that i got the first one to begin with, the second... idk i think i know what articles talk bout now when they say the body first recruits slow fiber muscles or something like that and then if it needs even more strength it will recruit the faster and more and more. cause it seems i get it up to my hair, then it gets stuck and then it slowly starts to go up again. anyway cool stuff :D

next time i hope for 3-4 reps. at any rate i hope the first 2 will be easier than today!

Prior to this pregnancy I was working on my goal of training to be in women's ((NATURAL!)) figure competitions. I was only in the beginning stages, I had been working out hard ever since I thought my son was old enough to stay in the childcare at the gym.

went olympic lifting. it was great. it was brilliant.

huge dude that came 3rd in the nationals there tells me ive imporved a lot on my technique.. which i felt it myself since the same weights feel much lighter. im sure its part CNS adaptation, part getting stronger in the front squat and overhead press but its also technique. i practically power snatched one time 40kgs with barely any leg dip(is that whats it called in english? i forgot... anyway.. getting under the bar i mean).

it feels so great to pick up "heavy"(i still think those are around 50% of my 1RM in these lifts, maybe 40% but anyway) stuff and feel like they are flying up instead of feeling heavy haha

That's a cool, encouraging boost to get. Very cool!

MamaP, you can certainly live vicariously through me for a while - I welcome any suggestions or critique. Your opinion here - dh's trainer worked up a plan for me. Super nice thing to do, he's a bodybuilder with loads of trophies and titles. But he's telling me to go drastically low (1100cal most of the week, 900 cal 2x and about 700 on Sunday) for two weeks to "reboot my metabolism". Have you heard or done anything like that? I'm just really afraid of going that low and screwing up my metabolism. It's a pretty intense training program, too, to be eating so little.

Sorry, I don't have much time. We've got company in town and spent the whole day at Busch Gardens yesterday - so fun! But today I'm taking dd to camp and then I'll go to the gym. I've got to do chest and shoulders which'll be a challenge since my back and triceps are still pretty sore. I'm going to use the whole 90 minutes I get (with ds in the kid room) and then take ds to the tennis courts and have him show me what he learned in tennis camp last week. I think he needs some mommy-time (it's his love language). Then I have to teach a yoga class tonight.

...See why I'm not sure 1045 calories (the trainer's plan for today) is going to cut it for me!?!?

Ya'll have a great day!
C.

front squat
5*60, 2*100, 3*117.5 PR, 2*2*117.5

i so had the 2nd set for 3 reps, just barely missed it. on the third set i didnt try for a 3rd one. less failure, less overtraining i guess?

overhead press couldnt do any with 70, my shoulders were kinda sore from yesterday's ol. lifting shoulder shrugging. oh well

cheat day today! yay!

i also weighed in at 107.6 today morning, which is actually more like 106.8 or so since i was wearing clothes.

Well, except for one more ab workout, I managed to squeeze in all of the workouts dh's trainer prescribed for me. He wanted me to do 45 min of cardio 4x/week and one of those 4 this week was only 20 minutes - but that was the night I also taught two yoga classes. I'll try to figure out a way to do that last ab workout at home today or tomorrow.

My legs are super sore from yesterday! And I did bi's and tri's today and think I'll be feeling that tomorrow! It's all good.

I'm kinda frustrated because I feel really puffy right now for some reason. I think I felt and looked tighter two weeks ago. Maybe I had a better tan then - I need to start working on my tan for the 4th for sure! I've got to keep my diet really clean the next two weeks, I think. I wish I knew what was making me so puffy - I guess it could be a lot of things.

Good Afternoon! I am new here today and this thread caught my eye. I am not a weight lifter but am working on changing my entire life and my children's through proper eating and exercise. I am reading the book "The Seven Pillars To Health" by Dr. Don Colbert and really want to incorporate lots of exercise into my life like I used to when I was younger.

I'd love to post here with you guys!

Welcome, Twinkly. We're all in different places just sharing our progress and questions here. Are you lifting weights, do you have access to equipment (a gym)? We'd love to give you tips and help you get started and I know you'd love it!!

A bunch of women are also checking in on a thread in the Women's folder about diet and losing weight in general (some exercise info there, several runners, but lots of diet talk there). Committing to fitness will change your entire life, and not just your physique. Have fun with it!

I'm new to this community as well. It's cool to see the discussion and encouragement that happens here in the posts. I've had to take a break from my fitness routine for the past couple of weeks, but I'm going to try to get it going again tomorrow. My schedule Monday is crazy, but I'm going to work hard at getting my workout in.

# of rounds in 20 minutes of:
10 x 64 lbs thrusters
10 x pull ups

Like twinkly, I'm looking forward to being a part of this community!
