Can God change people? What I mean is, Can God change people's unattractive characteristics like laziness and rudeness.

I dont see why not.

God is all about changing people. Since He is perfect and has no need to change, it is us who need to be changed to become more like Him. This is the work of the indwelling Spirit of God.

Aristotle2008 -> RE: Change (4/3/2008 1:13:04 PM)

do you have biblical references ?

joseph91 -> RE: Change (4/4/2008 3:12:31 AM)

Absolutely infact that's all he came to do is to save us from things that cause hurt in our life:

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it TO THE FULL. -John 10:10

This is EVERYTHING and only what God has and wants for you: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. -Galatians 5:22-23 These are the things that make life meaningful!

The Holy Spirit's work in you is called transformation. The fruit of the Spirit is every good thing that God is that makes Him perfect, He wants us to be like Him. The way we recieve the fruit of the Spirit is to give our lives to Him 100% and to trust Him to take care of your deepest needs.

God bless! :-)

Responding first to the original question: people can change themselves. If God is any more capable than normal people (and he must be if he's God, right?) then he likewise has the ability to alter our personality traits, as well as create opportunities conducive to changing habits and outlook - things normal people also can do to a very limited extent.

However, Joseph91 then makes me bring up a question. I'll start by re-quoting John 10:10:

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

If God has come that people may have life to the full, why does the evidence say that life is like a millstone: it successively if slowly grinds down everyone and everything. From mountains worn down to erosion to well-meaning workmen bankrupted by a world system that dissolves even the most carefully-assembled plans.

I believe if you have bad habits such as (laziness, rudeness, hatred, arrogance, bitterness, etc), then you should and need to pray for a change of heart. The bible commands us to pray and ask God for forgiveness and a change of heart.

"Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray the Lord that, if possible, the intention of your heart may be forgiven you. "For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity." (Acts 8:22-23)

Can God change people?

God expects change;

Ephesians 4:11-15
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

Kind of reminds me of the sermon my pastor gave last Sunday. The theme was "What type of sacrifices are you willing to make for God?" It was an awesome message he gave and I was totally inspired. My pastor challenged our church congregation to sacrifice and give up our (bad habits, lustful thoughts, selfish idolatries, etc). He even warned us that it was better to enter heaven lamed than to be thrown into hell. Of course he used that as a figure of speech. Nevertheless, it was a great sermon and I was very motivated to make changes in my life.
