I have several questions. :)

- When did you first begin to feel called towards a career as an artist?
- What is the message you hope people get from your music?
- What is your favorite song on your album, and why is it meaningful to you?

Thanks! I love your music!! :)

What are the stories behind "Red Sky" and "Light"?

wvchristianchic -> RE: Chat with Brandon Heath (4/11/2008 6:43:43 PM)

Hey Brandon,
Hope you are having a wonderful day filled with great blessings from God! I want to congratulate you on your four Dove Award nominations, that is totally awesome! You are a very talented songwriter/singer and I enjoy your music. I was delighted to hear you sing live at the West Virginia concert earlier in April, and have the opportunity to meet you after the concert. Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to chat with your fans. Here are some questions I was wondering about:

* Besides your own music, what are some of your favorite songs you enjoy listening to?

* I know being on tour can be very adventurous, do you have any cool tour adventures stories to share?

* Do you have any siblings?

* On your CD insert you give your listeners your cell phone number, do you receive a lot of phone calls from your fans? Do you have the opportunity to return their phone calls?

Hope you have a blast in Nashville at the Dove Awards! Best of Luck to you! Thanks again for creating such wonderful music! Blessings sent your way! Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers!

Blessings,
Christian_Chic [:)]

Hey Brandon!

I've heard that you're working on a new album. I'm excited for the new music. If you could describe the theme of the new album, what would you say the theme is?

I was having a conversation with a good friend Dan Muckala at a little cafe in Nashville. I'd been a songwriter for quite awhile and I'd signed a publishing deal with Brentwood-Benson. That conversation spawned off the question, "Do I want to be a pop artist or a Christian music artist?" That day was the first time I really considered seriously being a Christian music artist.

I had to think about what I most naturally write about and what makes me most excited. I most naturally write about God and what He's done in my life. The most meaningful songs in my opinion are ones about transformation and bigger things than what you hear on the radio...more important issues. Within a month of that conversation, I decided that's what I wanted to do. The reason Dan asked me that is because he wanted to help me reach those goals.

I grew up on pop music. So if anything's been a big influence, it's been pop music.

The message I hope people get from my music is that they are loved and that they are included in the Kingdom of God.

My favorite song on the record is "I'm Not Who I Was." I think it's my favorite because for a long time I've heard that God is able to use even your greatest weakness to glorify Himself. That song is about my greatness weakness and He has absolutely glorified Himself through that.

Brandon!!!
hi!!!
i was wondering what touring is like, how is life on the road?

I've been out with Aaron Shust this past spring to Robbie Seay last fall. I've been doing everything from car tours to van tours to bus tours. And I've done everything from arena sized to coffee shops. I got into this so I would get to know the artists.

What are the stories behind "Red Sky" and "Light"?

"Red Sky" was inspired by an old saying, "Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky at morning, sailors take warning." The guy that I wrote it with (Jason Ingram) is from the west coast and he knows those sayings.

If there's a red sky at night it means there's going to be a good day next day and smooth sailing. So in a turbulent world and you need some kind of sign that the world's gonna be better. And that song is that sign.

"The Light" is a song that I wrote in 1997. I had just gone to watch a movie and the story behind it is, "What if you were sitting in a movie theater and all of the sudden on the screen the movie went on but the movie that was on the screen was actually your life and you see yourself as a baby and you see yourself growing up and you notice something about yourself that you don't like. It causes you to be bitter and is an evil pattern in your life and that evil thing is sin. I can imagine people seeing sin in their life and not knowing what to do. And then the movie's over, and the lights dim. But then there's a door and there's a light through the door. So it's instructing everybody to stand up and hold the arm of the person in front of you and move toward the light."

Hello Brandon I am kinda new to your music but I really love I'm not who I was! That song really speaks volumes of how we as Christians should be. If we are in Christ then we cannot be in the world and I think sometimes we lose focus on that. Thanks for writing such a great song!

My other favorite songs are "I Can't Make You Love Me" by Bonnie Raitt and the first Dave Matthew's record. I listen to a band called Magnet. They are a very little known band but they are out of Great Britain and they are very programmed. If you listen to them, that's where I get my influence from.

Here's my rule about the cell phone number. When I'm driving in a car to a gig, those are the days that I answer my phone. If you see this hint, call me on a day when I'm driving to a gig. I answer as many as I can but definitely not a majority of them. The whole reason that I did it is because I thought it would be a new, yet old way of connecting with people.

I would absolutely go back. It was very muddy, but it made for an interesting concert. I love the people at KLTY that put on the concert. Anything in Texas, I'm in.

I think there's plenty of things to be distracted by in the world. I think that's why you have to arm yourself with great people who know and care about you and can be honest with you. Don't get in the habit of feeling like you have to have everything. Be happy with what you have already.

Jeremy Camp has announced a new CD in the winter would you ever consider going on tour with him?

Hey Brandon!

The theme is: Possibilities Begin With, "What If We..."

I think the record is about risks. Being a musician is a risk. A lot of these songs are either about consequences of risks or the need to do something a little bit bigger than yourself.

BrandonHeath -> RE: Chat with Brandon Heath (4/20/2008 4:53:12 PM)

Ok, I've got to go. Thanks for chatting.

Bye, have a great time in Nashville this week! [:)]
