I chuckled when reading The Lord changed him without my help, imagine that."
Oh how we want to help at times.. We have been married 12+ years, and for the most part have had a solid marriage where communication has been at the top of things. We have 2 kids that we adopted and tend to tip the scales in their favor compared to our favor as a couple but hey, lots to learn..
I see the FFOZ drash this week is about honesty, cannot wait to read it.. Again much thanks and shalom for now.

I'm sorry that Lbolt missed our seder due to military obligations. But we had a great time! A pastor we invited last year enjoyed pesach so much he decided to host it and invited a lot of other various pastors to come . Some loved it some did not. I'm praying for him now because he is already under attack from other pastors saying "It doesn't take all of that to worship God!" And speaking of keep the law thread, everyone seems to be going in circles. Only God can open our blinded eyes.[8|]

My youngest daughter Laura was invited to a first night seder by a co-worker. He is a lapsed orthodox. She went and found out his niece(?) was a Messianic. As he went thru the standard hagadah, she would come in behind him with the Messianic explainations. Somewhere near the end, Laura said her dad had written a Messianic hagadah, to which he replied he wanted to read it.

Last Monday she took one in and he read it immediatly. He said he was impressed (although he found a spelling error in one of the blessings)

So my little hagadah I made for our own family is now becoming a tool of outreach.

WHO KNEW????

Hi and shalom Shabbat, all. Few things to say here..First, I was blessed by today's Back To The Bible radio program where discussion ffocused on Daniel's prayer in Daniel 9. Turning from rebellion against God, in keeping with the Day of Prayer, observed here in the USA. Felt that it was very oriented toward living for God includes asking for His mercy and turning from the blatent choice to rebel.. Second, to those of you in the Burbs of DC like Dave W, I used to know a couple folk who attended Messianic congregations when living there in the 80s and 90s, Laura and Jen or Jeanette, respectively. I am a visually impaired person, and had a guide dog at the time. If you have ever heard either speak of me, tell them hi for me and doing fine for the most part. Lost track of both when moving back to Michigan to get married and press on with the journey.. The third thing, for any in or near San Clemente Calif, is Beth-Tfilah synagogue back on line, or teachings available by the late Rabbi Stan Greene? I was in a phone study with him 2 summers ago which started my whole venture into Hebrew Roots. He passed away in January 2007 and the web site went away then. OK gotta go and get workin, but like I said, shalom Shabbat everyone.. David

Shalom all. I just sent my column titled Shalom Reader, to our church secretary for inclusion in the June newsletter. Talking about holiness, service, and a glance it what it is to be named among the Hebrews, and a little promo for the Fall workbook study for any interested. I have a few friends joining me in prayer about this and that feels great! Per my post the other day asking about a Messianic congregation, I made a mistake on its location.. Beth-Tfilah is/was in Santa Clarita, Calif not San Clemente. I was sorry, am sorry, still sorry for the goof heheheheeh. If you know how that congregation is doing since Rabbi Stan passed away in January 07, would you let me know? I had been in a phone study with him for a few months prior to his sudden illness. I think his influence has kept me largely pursuing study and fellowship with others of like mind, hasn't been easy.. Well, it's about time to head for a new work day, praise Adonai for his mercies new each day and be blessed..

Why do you all have to live so far away? lol.

it is a struggle to study with like-minds.
Almost in any circle. lol.

We've been praying for and got "direction correction."
We prayed for direction and got correction. lol.

So, I was up last night writing an outline for the book of Genesis.
I was amazed I was able to do it in one sitting. I don't know when I started,
but do know when I quit. So, I don't know how long it took.

Yesterday was 2 hours of study, went to work, after work tilled the garden, weed-eated,
ate an orange, pondered the direction correction, went to the kitchen table and made
several notes. Then I tried to straighten up my back, lol, and went to bed. Too tired
to shower, so took a sponge bath. lol. Guess I'll have to shower before service tonight.
Wouldn't want to offend anyone. lol.

You'll have to find a place to post your work dr, so we can all look at it.
I'm always hungry to learn from everyone else.

Things have settled down a bit while we count the omer.
This coming Sunday we are having a huge 60th Anniversary celebration for the State of Israel sponsored by the Jewish Federation. We will meet at the State Capitol and have a mile walk with drums, singing and celebration. Then the rest of the day will be spent sharing food and dancing and food and fellowship. Good way to celebrate Mother's Day.

Here's a question that came up at our Torah study last Shabbat. A friend of our group moved away for business. He found a group where he now lives for the weekly Shabbat convocation. However, that group interpreted Erev Pasach as a different day than we do. Also, the Synagogue of the group is not a family friendly facility. Now, is it acceptable for him to stay at home with his family on Shabbat or is he required to gut it out until he can find at least one other person/family to have a convocation with on Shabbat?

It's become my opinion (so far) that Shabbat is a "family" thing.
I personally wouldn't have a problem keeping Sabbath at home with my family.
In fact, if I weren't the Pastor, that's probably what I would be doing at this point in time. lol.

Being in the middle of Red Neck country, it's hard to have an even keel flow as everyone
who comes in would like to change the way things are done. We've been studying Sabbath,
Feasts, etc. Seems we still don't have a clue.

Maybe because coming out of pagan christianity, I don't desire to fall into rabbinic judaism either.
So, we're going over the Scripture with a fine tooth comb to see what YaHUaH really said to do.

Last night I made an outline for Genesis.
Today at work I was able to make an outline for Exodus.

So, I'll be taking us through another journey of the Torah and not the typical Torah Cycle readings.
I've been praying how we should be doing our mix of faith. I think this is my answer.

Shabbat is indeed a 24 hour period of time for rest. But my only concern is that one doesn't neglect the fellowshipping of the saints to sharpen each other. When we isolate ourselves from the Body of Messiah in worship and teaching we can become easy prey for the enemy to come in. There has to be a balance.
Did this person give the fellowship at least a month to get to know the people? Could they influence the others in the shul themselves? Could they open up their home for a havarah during the week?
Just questions I would pose.

He has been attending every Shabbat for a couple of years now. I have also been assured by others in my group that He will probably be seeking out others to meet with him in his home, but what should be the advise until then.

Our group has always been of the commands regarding convocations at the appointed times. What we weren't sure about was whether the weekly Shabbat required a convocation. About three years ago we dedicated ourselves to looking for such a command as we went throught the yearly cycle. There is one and only one.

Le 23:3
"'Work is to be done on six days; but the seventh day is a Shabbat of complete rest, a holy convocation; you are not to do any kind of work; it is a Shabbat for ADONAI, even in your homes."

So, does convocation mean only family or does it mean community, as in minion or wherever two or more are gathered.

In the Jewish thought it is always community not just family. Family groups all lived in community and did things in community. Of course Shabbat dinner is spent with family which usually involved all the extended members too and if you were alone, you were invited to join with another family.
It's different in these modern days because we are all so spread out. But the Jews in past times (and still do if you live in New York) lived close to each other and life revloved around the synagogue or temple. Women stayed home with the kids preparing the Shabbat meal and the men went to the synagogue for prayers. Then on Saturday the whole community would gather. Then on Sunday the children would go to Sunday School for instruction.
In Israel this is what still happens.

This is more of a chat thread for those of us who are Messianic and don't want to battle our faith with those who think we are "on the wrong track". So our topics change as someone comes up with a new thot. then we bat it around. If you randomly scroll down from the beginning you will see how it goes.[;)]

I am not Messianic but we have some family members (all gentile) that now are. They joined a Messiancic synagogue in their area. Where should I go on the forum?

I guess I am looking for some kind of support as our daughter and her family have totally withdrawn from the rest of the family unless they need something. As Christians, they say we just don't get it anymore. The kids now think they are Jewish, told my husband he would die if he had to work on Shabbat, have corrected us numerous times that we are not supposed to be calling our saviour Jesus, that we should not be eating certain foods...and stuff like that. We were not invited to their home for Thanksgiving or Christmas (they celebrate both) and our daughter never calls her father anymore. No honor to him. Our daughter posts on her blog about Jewish things and Jewish holidays but never mentions Yeshua. We have, in the past, always enjoyed a close relationship with them, in and out of church. We have not tried to talk with them about it. We have not tried to influence their decisions. We have just been watching the changes and it has been rather painful to be rejected in all this.

I have read a lot about Messianic Judaism since this began and believe I understand it. It's this reaction in our gentile family members that puzzles me. This has not created unity in our family. Just the opposite. I know you don't know why these particular people have rejected us but I was hoping that maybe you have had some experience with this type of thing or maybe have known others that this has happened to. I have seen your participation on this site and hoped you might have some wisdom you could share with me.

If this is the wrong thread, can you direct me, please, where this topic would be better suited?

Though it is rather tedious sometimes. It still is entertaining on The "Law" thread. The hardest part is keeping people on topic. Whenever you begin to make progress down a logical line of argumentation someone jumps in with some "essential" doctrine and off you go on another rabbit trail. Also, you have to be careful that your argument is not interpreted as off topic because it fits the Torah observant mindset. That said, we had better get back to discussing Torah issues lest we get in trouble for criticizing another thread.
