crm4souls -> What Book would you give a Lost person? (4/10/2008 1:59:18 AM)

If you could hand someone a book other than the Bible to share Christ with them, what would it be? I am interested in what others think and hearing of other great books to give to the unsaved to minister to them.

The Case For Faith by Lee Strobel
I haven't read it myself because my dad basically gave me the "Cliff Notes" version. It helped him in his decision to give his life over to Jesus.
Plus I have skimmed through it and have heard a lot of things about it from others who have read it. I understand this book (and his other Case For Christ) have helped a lot of people come to Christ.

I also want to mention that Lee used to be a pastor at our church so I have heard a lot of his ideas that I'm sure he integrated into his books.
I would also recommend The Case For a Creator for those who don't believe in God.

I've also given out the Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning. I think it just depends on the person whom you're wanting to give a book to.

I've always wanted to read Lee Strobel's books. I hope to get to them soon.

Searching for God Knows What - Donald Miller

then quickly Foxe's Book of Martyrs so they don't get lured into comfortable Christianity that we teach at churches.

more than a Carpenter and what the previous guy said about Foxe's Book of Martyrs and for a young Christian I would also give them The Seduction of Christianity by Dave Hunt so they would be able to stay out of trouble as a believer.

those are all good suggestions, here are wo that have been made into films, they are fictionalized accounts of meeting Jesus. 1] dinner with a perfect stranger (film-A Perfect Stranger) and A day with a perfect stanger (film -another perfect stranger) the books (the film has a diffrent person than the book but is relativly the same) the books are by David Gregory.
Dinner is a what if you had dinner with Jesus, what would the questions be. The questions are well thought out, the second book is a plane ride with Jesus, diffrent set of questions and answers. They are small books and not intimidating. More than a Carpender by Josh Mcdowell is also a great resourse as the previous person has mentioned, it is cheep, small, and less intimidating. Lee Strobels Case for Crist is verry similar to Carpender , except more in depth. His whole Case for...series are a good and important read for yourself too. The world is growing more sceptical and even hostile towards Christianity. The Case for series gives you the tools. Lee strobel takes questons and presents them to top people/scholors on that feild.
The Case for Christ- is about Christ and the truth of who and what he is, the truth of the crucifixion, and more.
Case for Faith- What faith is, why we need it
Case for a Creator- Creation vs Evolution, and that science points more to a creator than an accident.
Case for more Christ(the title is something like that -dont have it yet) it deals with the stuff more recient like davinci code questions, tomb of Jesus, the gospel of Judas and other media influenced questions.

But let me stress that no matter the author or teacher hold all teachings in light of scripture

Brennan Manning is a wonderful author, God bless him.

You MUST MUST read Lee Strobel's books, great stuff. I also recommend Hank Hanegraaff and Ravi Zacharias.

As to the OP - besides the Bible, I would recommend either 'The Case for Christ' by Lee Strobel or 'Mere Christianity' by C.S. Lewis.

SD456 -> RE: What Book would you give a Lost person? (4/11/2008 1:50:56 PM)

Mere Christianity is good. (Love C.S. Lewis) I had one young college kid say they liked it and it was helpful and another college kid said they couldn't get into it or understand it very well. So I think it depends also on if someone is used to reading books, reads well and/or has a good ability to digest stuff.

I guess that should also be taken into consideration when choosing a simple book or a more complex book.

I gave a friend of mine a couple of Karen Kingsbury's fiction books. The gospel is well presented in her books. They really made her think....AND.....her husband read them too and really had a crisis of faith over what he read in them. The specific books I gave my friend were "One Tuesday Morning" and "Beyond Tuesday Morning", but all of her books are good.

maybe something like "what's so amazing about grace"

An atlas.

I would give them Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers.
It is a fiction book but it so beatifully paints the picture of not only salvation but Gods unwavering love and grace for us. Even when we mess up.

Good suggestions, I will have to read the Case for Christ before handing to someone. I have seen the books just not had a chance to read them. Redeeming Love, I have not heard of that, will have to look into it. Books are great tools for evangelism for those searching for Christ, it must be the right book for the right person.

Depending on the person, possibly Surprised by Joy by CS Lewis.
