Great post, OneOfHisJewels! This is very, very interesting learning about everyone's denomination. Seems like many are non-denominational. quote:
ORIGINAL: OneOfHisJewels I'm Orthodox Presbyterian (conservative, reformed in its views). Is that kind of like PCA? I used to have a good friend who was PCA. quote:
No, but I would have a really hard time with a spouse who was cessationist. I'd probably fit best with someone whose belief in God, Jesus, and the working of Holy Spirit is similar to mine. Hello, RGod! How are you? What does "cessationist" mean? I'm Southern Baptist. Have been all my life. But the church I belong to is seeker sensitive also and is probably a lot more like a non-denominational church than a traditional SBC church. I really love the way people are expressive in worship, which has become very, very important to me. I think my denomination as a whole treats singles well; most larger SBC churches have singles ministries, and I think the denomination recognizes singles' unique needs and seeks to minister to them. However, my church is another story. It's very, very focused on ministering to families and almost anti-single. But I'm attending a women's life group that started last summer and is almost entirely single, and the leader said we are really making the church leadership take notice because we "get it" as far as how small groups are supposed to function. So hopefully that will change the way families in our church view singles. I don't feel like a fifth wheel, though. The married folks in the church are very friendly and accepting of me; they just think the church should focus all its resources on ministering to married couples and their children. I don't have to marry someone who's SBC, but I'd be selective about what denomination he was; it would have to be conservative evanglical. I'd be willing to switch in that case. And I really love the qualities Joy2Give2You mentioned: quote:
A man who will listen, with excitement, when I share the things God is showing me, who has enough faith and trust in my walk with the Lord, to believe God is speaking to me even if he doesn't hear God the same way I do.

I am glad you started this! 1. What denomination are you? Christian and Missionary Alliance 2. How do you feel your church, and your denomination at large, treats singles? Do you feel you belong, or do you feel like a fifth wheel? We have a singles group that has about 15 to 20 regular weekly attendees. However, I feel the church just tolerates us. We are constantly moved from our room with little notice. We have to beg to announce our activities in the bullentins. 3. Is it a must for a future spouse to be the same denomination as you, or would you switch for the right one? He does not have to be the same denomination. However, I would prefer to stay at my church. I guess I would have to cross the bridge when I get there.

Hello, RGod! How are you? What does "cessationist" mean? Hi Trinigirl! Good to see you too! When I say cessationist, I mean a person who believes that certain spiritual gifts, which are listed in the bible, haved ceased and are not in operation today. I've been in many churches where this was the case and always felt like I couldn't freely express my gifts openly because I have some of the gifts that they preach against. To have to do this in a church congregation is one thing - because there is usually another reason for me to be there and God always makes a way for me to minister without coming into conflict with leadership. But to not be able to express these gifts in my everyday life and to therefore be uncomfortable in my marriage on a daily basis would be too difficult, I think.

ORIGINAL: OneOfHisJewels Ok, how about I edit my OP to this: 1. What denomination are you? 2. How do you feel your church, and your denomination at large, treats singles? Do you feel you belong, or do you feel like a fifth wheel? 3. Is it a must for a future spouse to be the same denomination as you, or would you switch for the right one? Great rework and excellent questions... I belong to an Apostolic Church, New Creation Worship Assembly, part of PPM Global (not advertising, just giving you something to look up if you want to really understand)--for all of you who say "I attend...but I'm not a member"...why not? My church is run by very strong young women, all currently single. It's not a group, just a marital state we are in (or not in) while we serve the Lord. I was brought here by God, and would not switch for anyone. Once my season here is up...if it ever is, then I might consider it. But I'm here to learn about my calling and be trained up in it...so I'm not going anywhere anytime soon.
