I'm Orthodox Presbyterian (conservative, reformed in its views).

Pauley464 -> RE: What denomination are you? (4/10/2008 2:49:06 PM)

I'm a non-denominational Christian. My home congregation is part of the restoration movement.

While I tend to think like Rachel, for the sake of the thread....

I attend a Non Denominational Bible Church. I Have in the past attended Penticostal, and Charismatic churches, but I want my kids to have a solid Biblical foundation, so I chose the one I go to now.

AdrianaS -> RE: What denomination are you? (4/10/2008 3:29:51 PM)

I'm a member of a charasmatic church loosely affiliated with the assemblies of God.

I'm also not sure what this thread has to do with being single ...

I just thought it would be a fun way for all of us to get to know each other better. There was a similar thread in women's just for that sake...and it's not like that's really a women only issue..men are in denominations also, lol.[:D]

And, it does help for men and women to know each other's denominations.

iwillfearnoevil -> RE: What denomination are you? (4/10/2008 3:40:51 PM)

seriously, what is the prob with this thread? i see multiple threads on the first few pages that aren't necessarily single only ... i view this folder as a place for [mostly] singles to talk, ask questions, grow our faith, share our victories and struggles in the dating world AND life, etc. we've had several getting to know each other type threads that are okay, this is confusing. i don't see a rules thread in this forum, am i blind?

OneOfHisJewels -> RE: What denomination are you? (4/10/2008 3:55:53 PM)

Right, but how is this any more off topic of singles, than it was really a women's only issue? And no one cared when it was in women's only. And no, I wasn't the thread starter, so I am not spamming.

Also, I think that after making sure of Godliness/christianity, making sure as a couple that you are compatible in your theology/denominational beliefs is the next most important thing. For example, I DO believe in baptizing babies..many christians do not, so that rules out a lot of men for me. So, it really IS a singles issue...

and let me clarify that my purpose was NOT to scout out what men were in what denomination, lol. It's just an issue that we singles need to be aware of, and we forget that sometimes.

iwillfearnoevil -> RE: What denomination are you? (4/10/2008 3:56:56 PM)

perhaps some rules need to be posted :] this might be a depressing forum if every post was about still being single after all these years ;) i go into other forums and even see threads with no relevance. it's like teens hang out in the teen forum and not every post is about getting acne or being demoted out of someones top friends list on myspace :)

to be on topic, currently i as a single go to an Assemblies of God church (Pentecostal) ... of course i went there when i was married too ... i've been there about a year and half starting with helping in youth group (my best friends are youth pastors and we slowly got more involved) ... before that it was an independent church (Pentecostal too) ...

Okay.... I'll give...

As a single person who will not remain single for the rest of my life God-willing.... I attend a rockin' awesome non-denominational church. I'm not a member, though....

OneOfHisJewels -> RE: What denomination are you? (4/10/2008 4:23:31 PM)

Ok, how about I edit my OP to this:

1. What denomination are you?

2. How do you feel your church, and your denomination at large, treats singles? Do you feel you belong, or do you feel like a fifth wheel?

3. Is it a must for a future spouse to be the same denomination as you, or would you switch for the right one?

John_O -> RE: What denomination are you? (4/10/2008 4:57:41 PM)

lol. Ok, I can post now without being in the middle of some should this belong here debate. [;)]

1. I currently attend a Messianic congregation with a mix of both Jewish believers and Gentiles. It's not really a denomination.

2. I don't feel any distinction of how I am treated or how others are treated at this congregation. Everyone treats each other as the individual they are. I simply see relationships that occur naturally. Most of the people who attend have their own home churches and attend because it is a Friday night Shabbat service. I definitely belong.

3. It is important for a future spouse to be in agreement in the doctrines and teachings (major ones) of the place they are attending and to attend together.

Your right it would be worthless because it would be counterfeit. The highest denomination of Confederacy was , I believe $1,ooo.

AngelInWaiting1983 -> RE: What denomination are you? (4/10/2008 7:12:31 PM)

1. What denomination are you? I am currently a member at Methodist church. However i've attended Lutheran, Baptist, Free Will Baptist, Non-Denom, and Church of God

2. How do you feel your church, and your denomination at large, treats singles? Do you feel you belong, or do you feel like a fifth wheel? There aren't many people my age that attend my church. Most people are married.

3. Is it a must for a future spouse to be the same denomination as you, or would you switch for the right one? I'm not big into denomination, i'm more of how the church feels.

Grace-N-Mercy -> RE: What denomination are you? (4/10/2008 9:00:43 PM)

Hey, OOHJ. Great thread!!

1. What denomination are you? Southern Baptist, evangelical.

2. How do you feel your church, and your denomination at large, treats singles? Do you feel you belong, or do you feel like a fifth wheel? We have a large single's ministry. Sometimes it feels like we're left out of things and other times we feel that there's ample opportunities for us to serve. There's no perfect balance, but it's close.

3. Is it a must for a future spouse to be the same denomination as you, or would you switch for the right one? I kinda hope he's of the same denomination because I don't want to end up in debates. There are some things I feel pretty strongly about and have been known to get into a debate or two. [&:] But if he's God's hand-picked man for me, I'm not going to be fussy about that! [:D]

(edited to finish thought)

utilityfielder -> RE: What denomination are you? (4/10/2008 9:04:01 PM)

Reformed Presbyterian

But the first church I went to as a child was started by the government.

9drtr -> RE: What denomination are you? (4/10/2008 9:21:15 PM)

1. Anglican, born and bred. I currently attend an evangelical congregation within the Anglican Church of Canada.

2. I feel increasingly little connection to my denomination as so much of its leadership (at least in the first world) strays to the left politically, socially, and theologically, so I care very little how the denomination treats singles. My congregation is made up mostly of families, but I have never felt excluded there.

3. My future spouse must be a Christian, and must tolerate my need for a little ceremony and some traditional hymns. She must have good enough taste to understand that Thomas Cranmer was one of the greatest of all prose stylists in the English language. Apart from that, anything goes.

4. Whenever anyone asks my religion, I really want to say, "Leafs fan."

Figures. even among the worthless I'm worthless[:D]

On to the questions (seriously this time)

1. I'm Pentecostal. Attend a Pentecostal Church of God of Springfield Mo. (They are doctrinally identical to the Assmebleis of God and the Pentecostal Church of God of Cleveland Tennessee. Sister denominations. (Hope I got them all right))

2. My local church treats singles OK. We just don't have any. Well, a few but not a bunch. Maybe 8?
I think the denomination treats them OK. I've not seen any "Singles get out" signs or anything.

3. Beyond the basics, it's important that my future wife accepts the existence of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and recognizes that all the gifts are to be active in the church today. Doesn't matter if she's Southern Baptist, Pentecostal etc. It does matter that we can find an acceptable church to go to together. (I rather like mine and several others in the area)

FYI - Although not confederate, the government actually did make a real 100,000 dollar bill, and there are currently 5 known to be in existence. They were only used for bank to bank transfers and never in general circulation, and have long been out of print. The Federal Reserve Bank of SF has one on display in the currency museum, so I have seen the genuine article. There used to be a picture of one online, but someone actually tried (stupidly) to counterfeit it and pass it and is currently on trial, and the bank has pulled the pictures until they decide how to make them less "accurate".

A 100,000 dollar bill could be real, John_0........I don't know???[;)]

===================

Back to the topic of the post.

I belong to a Evangelical Free Church.

I belong the the same church I did before I was single, and my church has been a great support to my kids and me over the years; I do feel accepted and not a fifth wheel.

It is not important to me that a future spouse belongs to the same denomination, but it is very important to me that they have doctrinally similar beliefs. It is also important to me that a future spouse knows what they believe, and why they believe it, and that their faith matters enough to them that a major difference in doctrine would be as much of a difficulty for them as it is for me.
