This is true. My friend told me her brother is the 'fun' Dad but even he knows that his kids have such a bond with their mum they would never leave her. Even for him. I have to keep praying that Thing 2 and I continue to have such a bond and I can only do that by doing what I'm doing.

We've had this talk before. I believe your son knows what constitutes a "cool" parent is the one that stayed around. The fact that his dad left and was gone for so many years goes to show a lack of coolness on his part. In fact it takes away many cool points. Cool points that you gained by not giving up as a single parent. Give your son more credit, sweetie. He knows what's up.
Yes we have. I deal with a lot of materialism in my family and I suppose I'm afraid that Thing 2 will fall prey to that as well. Lord knows I love my boys and am doing everything I can to do right by them...I just hope his dad doesn't get any bright ideas and want to start having control or whatnot over Thing 2.
Does that make sense?
