quote:
ORIGINAL: iwillfearnoevil your son does know who was always there for him and will never forget that ... even if a "normal" two parent household, you'll probably have one child thinking one parent is more cool than the other. i think focusing on the positives for your son might help. you aren't losing a son, your son is gaining something. you have every right to be cautious. ask them to get something from their local police department that they don't have any criminal background to be safe if you want. (this would be free for them and shouldn't take long at all). if your son has a good time, try to be happy for him. for me it was painful at first to hear about the fun she'd have at the amusement park with her mom and 'new family'. i am reaching the point where i am happy for her and don't just want to block out this other part of her life. it took time for me and wasn't easy. i don't know the circumstances, but if not for this recent contact maybe your son would grow up his whole life with abandonment issues and be searching for closure. perhaps this gives your son a chance to demonstrate God's greatest gift/action: forgiveness. The biggest difference between you and I Ed, is that he's only met his father once before this. Other than that, I'm so glad you understand how I feel. I also understand more about abandonment issues than most people know. It's hard to try to be logical about something that cuts emotionally...you know? quote:
ORIGINAL: sosing2me Hi Tink, I can't begin to know how you feel but from what I am reading, you are a great Mom and that will not go unrewarded. God will honor that commitment you have made to raising your children to be happy, successful and mature men. It always seems that Mom is the bad guy at least it seemed that way with my sister BUT her grown children adore her and yours will too. That's just IMHO. By the way, no one can EVER take the place of Mom. This is true. My friend told me her brother is the 'fun' Dad but even he knows that his kids have such a bond with their mum they would never leave her. Even for him. I have to keep praying that Thing 2 and I continue to have such a bond and I can only do that by doing what I'm doing. quote:
ORIGINAL: armydude It was. Hang on a min... ***Dude crosses his arms and glares at the computer screen*** We've had this talk before. I believe your son knows what constitutes a "cool" parent is the one that stayed around. The fact that his dad left and was gone for so many years goes to show a lack of coolness on his part. In fact it takes away many cool points. Cool points that you gained by not giving up as a single parent. Give your son more credit, sweetie. He knows what's up. Yes we have. I deal with a lot of materialism in my family and I suppose I'm afraid that Thing 2 will fall prey to that as well. Lord knows I love my boys and am doing everything I can to do right by them...I just hope his dad doesn't get any bright ideas and want to start having control or whatnot over Thing 2. Does that make sense?

It does. But I'd still say you have nothing to worry about. Just keep doing what you're doing.

Hiya Tink! Happy Birthday Thing 1! Okay I have to put my 2 cents in on the conversation at hand. I wouldn't look at it as a bad thing. I would see it as your son having more people to love him. We can never have too much love, can we?
