Especially since I need a new car, place to live, and I would like to buy theatre tickets.

I posted this in the single's forum but thought I would post it here as well.

A friend of a friend recently delivered her twins waaay early (they were due 14 December) and this afternoon she lost the boy.

The girl is still fighting but they aren't going to breathe easy for the next 56 hours.

The family and I would really appreciate your prayers. *huggles*

She's 1 pound and 15 inches long. She's long for her age but very skinny. I haven't heard anything today but when I do I'll let you guys know.

When I hear people say, 'the Lord will give you the desires of your heart' it always causes a small cringe. IMO to embrace this without looking further into scripture or even that chapter would be akin to the 'name it and claim it' theory.

Okay...I desire to stay home with my children, focus on a ministry that is dear to my heart, and be able to afford to keep my house open to teenagers who just need a place to hang out. And since I desire all of this without working full time, it's going to happen, right? Because God gives us the desires of our heart.

The verse comes from Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.

However, I think we sometimes miss verses 5 & 7: Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this;
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

I always revert back to something I've been dealing with for the past few years and how God has changed the desires of my heart to fit His desires.

About four years ago God turned my head into a direction and I felt like he was saying, 'This will be yours.' IMO it was something that wasn't even obtainable so I brushed it off.

I went about my way, made other pursuits but still my gaze went back to the original thought.

Earlier this year I felt my walk with the Lord growing stronger and closer (which is what brought me to CW) and again I felt, 'This will be yours'. I danced with the idea but didn't pursue it.

Soon I felt like God was making sure I noticed what He put before me. This item...this promise was in my life all the time. No matter where I was, who I was with, what I was doing, I saw this...item popping up in conversation or even my line of sight.

Finally I threw my hands up in the air and said, "Okay! If this is what you truly desire for me, then I desire for it to be your will and your will only."

So my desires changeed to what He desired for me. I now desire the item and seek it. Will it happen tomorrow? Lord I hope not.

Will it happen? As long as it is His will then yes it will.

He will grant me the desires of my heart because it is what He desires for me.

And this may sound like something I've said before but God keeps bringing it up to me so I ponder it. He wants me to understand this for a reason and I question it not...I merely receive His teachings.

Oh thank you so much, Dude! However, please feel free to add any thoughts. I'm quite interested in others opinions, especially someone wiser and *cough*older*cough* than me.

Well one thing that was going through my mind is that the verse you quoted is actually self sufficient.

Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.

(Hit enter too early)

Here's the rest. What does it mean to "delight" oneself in the Lord? When we make Him our joy, His desires will be ours.

But you'd already covered that, so I didn't elaborate.

Very true...to delight is to do in it is His name...His honour.

Very good! I like that.

I feel like I understand this very well but don't understand why He keeps bringing it to my attention. *sigh*

I put this in the singles prayer thread, but the girl twin died as well. Please keep the family in your prayers.

I remember a preacher telling us a story about (oddly enough) a preacher that kept telling the same sermon over and over. After the third week, the deacons asked why he kept giving the exact same sermon. His reply was, "When you start doing that, I'll move on to the next sermon."

Every once in a while I'm reminded of that same scripture. I know what that means. I haven't learned it all yet. The thought is actually comforting to me. I don't even want to start thinking that I know it all. If my head starts to swell like that, I may just forget that I was made from dirt and rescued from sin. My prayer is that HE continues to be my focus and that I continue to delight in Him first and foremost.

ArmyDude;

That statement sounds borderline Reformed. Are you of that doctrinal stance?

If you don't know, then perhaps you're not. However, it's possible a reference to John Piper would help...I could go and look up some terribly high-minded theological website for it, but it's not important enough to me just at the moment. I was just curious.

Alrighty.. that works. I don't subscribe to any particular denominational doctrine. I just talk to my Heavenly Daddy and leave the rest to the theologians... You know.. the people that you need before you can misunderstand the bible.
