ORIGINAL: BlackCapnHarlock I agree with Obama's comments and I am no liberal. What he said was true, ever talk or communicate with someone born and raised in a small town? Their views are usually very narrow because they haven't had much life experience. Small town America is angry and bitter right now, I read it on the web and hear it on Republican talk radio. Nothing he said was wrong or elitist. Me thinks you miss the point. Obama said it is the poor ecomony that makes folks cling to religion etc. 25 years ago when the steel business was booming in Pa. the folks were clinging to the same things; Faith, freedom, law abiding communities. Thanks RC Baltimore's steel business, in the same time period, was booming in Md. as well, and the folks were clinging to the same things; Faith, freedom, law abiding communities. Obama's comments were: quote:
You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, a lot of them -- like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they've gone through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, and they cling to guns, or religion, or antipathy toward people who aren't like them, or anti-immigrant sentiment, or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations. "You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, a lot of them -- like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, ....." If he feels this way about 'small towns', Pennsylvania, and the Midwest'', I, for one, want to know; demand knowing---before I accept it to be not intended to be offensive; how and what he thinks about people from larger towns and cities across the whole USA!! I am offended and angered by those comments --- about people in 'small' towns, Pa., and ....!! Pat
