I wonder if Obama meant that rural folk cling to guns and religion not out of ignorance, but because the failings of the government have only left them with their firearms and churches? When the people lose everything they have of course they are going to cling desperately to the few things in life that they have left.

BTW Obama's statement was not elitist, because he didn't condemn their actions as being inferior to those of more urban people, he was merely making an observation about the state of things. Call him out of touch if you want, I think even that's a stretch coming from a small Michigan farmtown myself, but you can't call him elitist because of this speech.

Real faith allows a person to know that no matter what happens in life God is in control and will provide our every need. The government will fail just because it's created by imperfect men. History shows that time and time again. Rural people understand that in times of crisis they have to depend on God (for those who believe, not all rural people are Christians ) and themselves simply because it takes time to get there.

You are right I'm sorry. You can call him elitist, but you would not be using the English language to its full potential if you ignored the meanings of words.

That is why that thread came about. It's for moderation. At this time the PTB haven't deemed it necessary to make a one stop thread. Perhaps they are waiting until after the elections. After all this is the elections folder. It helps to have some leeway to discuss the candidates in separate threads so that there is more participation.

Thats right i am from a small town. I grew up in a small town. And we do cling to our guns and our religon. Maybe Obama should find a Bible based church. My prayers to Obama that he can find it in his heart to follow the Holy Bible. And listen to what God would have him do. We need to pray for all the canidates to follow God.

Mentioned in another topic that I am beggining to think that Michelle Obama is really "in charge" and Barack Hussein Obama is a puppet. She comes right out and says what she means and when he gets away from the teleprompter he starts saying the same but not as forceful.

In a few years she will be another Hillary.

Ms. Fowler told me in an interview Sunday night that she was initially reluctant to write about what Mr. Obama had said because she actually supports him -- which partly explains why she was at the fund-raiser in the first place and why there was a four-day delay between the event and the publication of her post. Ultimately, she said, she decided that if she didn’t write about it, she wouldn’t be worth her salt as a journalist.

Yes he did. The real irony is that this damage to Obama was done via the HuffPo which is totally Obama oriented. And now Obama is finding it difficult to get the media protection he needs.

Most of NC's population of 8 million comes from small towns and cities. While the large population centers of the Triad, the Triangle, and Charlotte area tend to dominate the news the state is largely rural. The large cities probably will go for Barry but his commets could anger the rest of the state.

Sorry to say, for you anyway, but today's opinion polls, taken after the "bitter" remarks, in PA have barely budged since last week. Seems like "small town folk" in PA have more sense and perspective than the right-wing talking head elites on TV give them credit for. I doubt it will be any different in NC where Obama has a large lead over Clinton.

In the end, Clinton will win PA by about 10 points, which considering she was leading by about 19 points a month ago, is not such a great victory (but she will spin it as such) and she will still lose the nomination. The race has been over for a month -- the math dictated that already -- she just doesn't want to accept the inevitable yet.

Think this and other has shown that Barack Hussein Obama would have never came close to getting on the ticket without the protection he had from the media. And he has many more months to show who he really is.

You wish; but If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride. If wishing could make things happen, then even the most destitute people would have everything they wanted.

None-the-less, the voting system in this Country doesn't work that way; if it did there would be not reason for anyone else to vote. No, there are Christians praying all over this Country, and in other Countries, that God's will, will be done. Those who have yet to vote will do so knowing their vote does count --- just as much as the first one, that was cast, counted. It's not over until the last vote cast is counted.
