Who cares what they expect from their employer; he's the boss --- the employer. No-one should expect anything above an honest wage for an honest day's work --- anything else (including Health Care) is a bonus, if the employer so desires.

They don't want to learn new skills to have a new job.

Why should they? Their jobs have not become obsolete, someone else is doing their job; the job they have skills and talents in doing.

Obamessiah- 4/16/08- Debate in Pennsylvania...

He does it again folks and I quote:

"People run to religion when government doesn’t function."

HAHAHAHAHAHA.... So then when religion doesn't function where do we run??? Back to government. This man clearly doesn't understand!

Religion? What about relationship. He is clueless... Absolut(ely) clueless.

Yes and for some reason that escapes me, we seem to keep electing spendthrift officials like Governor Mike Easley, who never saw a liberal cause he didn't want to throw money at, crooked politicians like former House Speaker Jim Black, and on and on.

How about the millions we have already spent on the "light rail" proposal that they say will ease our traffic mess in Raleigh and the Triangle? Yeah, right........................

Nice to see fellow North Carolinians who are disgusted with taxes here! At least Easley will be out this year... still researching who to vote for.

Jhud -> RE: Obama's comments about small-town America (4/17/2008 11:26:12 AM)

Did Sen. Obama spin on this issue last night!

Obama said "that, when people feel like Washington's not listening to them ... then, politically, they end up focusing on those things that are constant, like religion.

"They end up being much more concerned about votes around things like guns, where traditions have been passed on from generation to generation," Obama said.

Nothing says family and tradition like passing on your gun collection to your kids...

Happiness, is a warm gun...

Yeah, we have the same problem here in Maryland; always seems to keep electing spendthrift officials. The problem, as I see it, is that there is no checks and balances in our State; which as goes for Federal Government; government without an even amount of both liberal & Conservative Democrats, and, Conservative & liberal Republicans Representatives of the people. When the majority representatives are liberal (found in both Democrats & Republicans) all we get is Tax and Spend, and, Waste for the purpose of Beautification --- to look good or be the First, the Best, the Leader in..., and so forth. Maryland is a liberal Democrat State, with liberal Republicans, and a sprinkle of Conservative Republicans thrown-in to look good. The majority of Voters are also liberal Democrats, so until the numbers change --- Maryland will continue to be a Tax & Spend State.

In another thread when I posted my thoughts on border tensions between the U.S. and Mexico the response to me was, "You really need to get out of your small town more often and experience a little diversity in your life!"

Must be an Obama supporter

I kinda like Fred Smith so far. The thought of Bev Perdue in the governor's mansion is really scary.

One of the many reasons I left upstate New York 12 years ago and came here was the lower taxes, not to mention jobs, general cost of living, weather, etc. At this point I can only say that the weather is better. Oh, and there really are fewer liberals here, though I think they're all bailing out of the northeast and coming here.

What I find interesting is how much Sen. Obama sounds like Franklin D. Roosevelt, [Democrat]
in his; “The Economic Bill of Rights”; speech:
It is our duty now to begin to lay the plans and determine the strategy for the winning of a lasting peace and the establishment of an American standard of living higher than ever before known. We cannot be content, no matter how high that general standard of living may be, if some fraction of our people—whether it be one-third or one-fifth or one-tenth—is ill-fed, ill-clothed, ill-housed, and insecure.
This Republic had its beginning, and grew to its present strength, under the protection of certain inalienable political rights—among them the right of free speech, free press, free worship, trial by jury, freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures. They were our rights to life and liberty.
As our nation has grown in size and stature, however—as our industrial economy expanded—these political rights proved inadequate to assure us equality in the pursuit of happiness.
We have come to a clear realization of the fact that true individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence. “Necessitous men are not free men.” People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made.
(Bold mine)

SovereignIsHe -> RE: Obama's comments about small-town America (4/17/2008 8:48:48 PM)

Obama...

First time...

"It's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

Second time...

"So I said, well you know, when you're bitter you turn to what you can count on. So people, they vote about guns, or they take comfort from their faith and their family and their community. And they get mad about illegal immigrants who are coming over to this country or they get frustrated about you know how things are changing."

Liar....

Well my grandsons are waiting on baited breath for me to croak so they can have my collection. Some of them have been handed down in the family from the time of the "War between the States".

Thanks

Keep trying to reeducate all the people who have been taught wrong about this time in history. Was never a Civil War.

Must be more of that small (southern) town stuff showing up in me. You know how we cling to traditions.

No, I dropped out of school.

To truly be a Civil War you need at least two factions of the same country, each trying to rule the other. The South was not trying to rule the North. Also by defintion (at least to them) the South was no longer a part of the Union, they were a seperate country.

So the argument could be made there was no "Civil War", even though it has become the standard term that we all use, including myself

But then am just TomTurn, "a typical white person from a small town but not in a Christian nation, who clings to God, owns guns, actually listened to the pastor for 22 years, whose life did start at conception and whose mother was punished with 3 babies" and did not go to Harvard, so I could be wrong

Sure he does: The Government is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble... Isn't that Psalm46???

LOL, We un-officially un-documented educated; not in the public school system for at the least 12 years; must have gotten the same hear-say information, cause that's how I remember it too --- leastwise it did not start out as a 'Civil War' [8|] or a 'Southern slave oppressors' rebellion' [&o]

Oh Good Grief, give us a break! Surely you must have something more intelligent to add. Or do you?

Sheesh. It was a joke.

At the end of the day, though, there was an event that the federal government saw as an insurrection. As a result, we call it a "civil war".
