Jimbo,

You may be right and I may be wrong. But it is really niether here nor there when deciding what kind of guitar music should be played, is it? I think we both agree that using guitar pedals is NOT blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

For further study, here's a link to Baker's Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology: Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit

And here is Matthew Henry's comentary on the verse:
quote:

But if, when the Holy Ghost is given, in his inward gifts of revelation, speaking with tongues, and the like, such as were the distributions of the Spirit among the apostles, if they continue to blaspheme the Spirit likewise, as an evil spirit, there is no hope of them that they will ever be brought to believe in Christ; for First, Those gifts of the Holy Ghost in the apostles were the last proof that God designed to make use of for the confirming of the gospel, and were still kept in reserve, when other methods preceded. Secondly, This was the most powerful evidence, and more apt to convince than miracles themselves. Thirdly, Those therefore who blaspheme this dispensation of the Spirit, cannot possibly be brought to believe in Christ; those who shall impute them to a collusion with Satan, as the Pharisees did the miracles, what can convince them?

We agree there -- The Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Trinity. The Church is the bride and Christ is the bridegroom.

john the baptist said that he wont the prophet. the disciple john said in revelation that he was a prophet. he also said 5 times that he was the author of the book of revelation. he wanted to sit at JESUS' side but JESUS rebuked him. i call this the saint john syndrome. he is a seeker after glory. same as the ones calling themselves the bride. but john the baptist said he was the friend of the BRIDEGROOM. my goal is to be a friend of our LORD JESUS. i shall never be the BRIDE.

Then how can you hope to be at the marriage feast in heaven where Jeus, the bridegroom, receives His bride, His redeemed believers? There will be no human observers, only participants as the bride of Christ.

my next essay is "i never knew that JESUS was a mormon". a parody about all these people who believe that they are the bride of christ. mormons had many brides at one time.

I personally do not know what the "unpardonable sin" really is or means. Jesus said that we should seek him while he may be found. To me this means diligently seeking out what His intentions were when he had men write the Holy Scriptures. Look at Ezra 7:10, for example. Ezra was a Son of Aaron and he devoted his heart to the law and to its principles and to teaching them. It takes courage to delve into the Holy Scripture and find out what G-d himself intends to say to you personally. May the Holy Spirit be your guide into all truth. For Jesus Christ is the way to the truth that leads to life.

RC and Jimbo hit it on the head.

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is to deny HIS works and attribute them to others.

I do not believe a truly Spirit filled Christian can do that.
Once you have tasted of the goodness of God and of His Holy Spirit, you KNOW Who fed you.

MrFribbles -> RE: What is the unpardonable sin? How does a Christian avoid it? (5/10/2008 2:07:07 AM)

In my mind, the question of the unforgivable sin is easy. What is the only sin that will never be forgiven? Look to 1 John 1:9 - if we confess our sins, Christ will forgive us (not a direct quote, of course, but I trust you all know how to look it up if you want one). So the unforgivable sin is the sin that remains un-confessed before God. Therefore, the unforgivable sin is the sin present in the life of those who do not accept Christ as savior. They cry out in their hearts, "I am good enough! I do not need God! I will find another way!" They tell the Holy Spirit that they do not need Him to come into their lives (maybe not in so many words, but certainly through their thoughts and actions), and in doing so, blaspheme against Him.

So, I firmly believe that if someone is truly a Christian, then it is an impossibility for them to commit the unforgivable sin.
