Hello!

I am looking for a fun name for our new women's ministry. Any suggestions?

What kind of ministry is it?

could you tell us a bit about this ministry so that we will be better able to give you suggestions? I do like coblestone's "lasing treasures"!

Thanks, its a reference to "the last shall be first" in the accumulation of wealth that's stored where "rust cannot corrode" Women often store up much in servanthood to others that's never recompensed for.. To know that all good deeds don't go unnoticed and unrewarded is a lot of comfort for the future age.

Knit Together (from Colossians 2:2)

SusieQP -> RE: Fun name for a women's ministry?? (4/18/2008 2:24:24 AM)

Well, right now we have no active women's ministry. I'd like to do some stuff with sewing, organizing group events (like a group going to the Women of Faith convention), community service, etc. Most importantly, I'd like to do some stuff to bring non-christians to Christ. I think if I can bring the women together in a non-threatening way, our actions will help introduce Jesus to others. So, maybe start with a sewing class teaching others how to sew, and we can do it in the fellowship hall in the church, have a potluck lunch or something once or twice a month... I don't know. But, I have to start with a name.

I like the "Knit Together" idea... but I don't know how to knit. Maybe something along the lines of "Sewn Together," I don't know!

Any other ideas?

Thanks so much!!

Blessings,
SusieQP

"Knit Together" is not about actual knitting. It's about being one in Christ in love and unity and with the same purpose. I love it.

Hello SusieQP,
Going with your idea of teaching sewing I thought of -
Sowing through Sewing
or
S.owing
I.nto
S. pirits
T.hrough
E. vangelism
R.elated
S.ewing

though it might could use some work.
Yours in Christ,
T.J.

Although SoninMe, was almost certainly being whimsical, when contrasted with 2itay's submission,

it does illustrate the TWO branches of thought in terms of our own and the media perception of our group

Consider the phrase

"Pro-Life" when contrasted with "Anti-Abortion"

BOTH phrases are used to describe the same groups, but the one speaking of being "against or anti" is almost invariably the one chosen by the detractors of their efforts.

So... whatever name you choose, you may wish to determine whether you mostly want to be identified by what you stand FOR or by what you stand AGAINST

Yeah, I was goin' for a feminine illiteration.

Girls for God

Feminists for the Father

Princesses for the Prince of Peace

Gems for Jesus

Another thought I had was-
Because the seeds you would be sowing in your ministry would result in eternal life for some-and since eternity is represented by the circle -you could go with something simple like-

The Sowing Circle

SusieQP -> RE: Fun name for a women's ministry?? (4/21/2008 10:30:23 AM)

Hmmmnnn.... I just don't know. I'm thinking maybe something that doesn't "scream" religion. I don't want non-christians to be scared away in thinking that they don't belong. I want something that will spark an interest into others that don't go to church, too.

I envision a group that can plan activities that will inspire the Christians, yet lead the non-christian into our group to help bring them closer to Jesus and/or introduce them to what Jesus is all about through our actions and our missions.

I would like to get together once or twice a month for fellowship, maybe an informal potluck dinner, for a very informal study, and most of the time of the meeting devoted to making some items that are needed by local nursing homes or hospitals like preemie baby clothes, walker caddies, pretty pj's, etc. and just be able to sit and chit-chat and encourage each other while we serve the community.

I'm also open to your ideas for how to structure a group! We have a small church, and no current women's ministry. I've never led a group or even been part of a group before, so its all very new to me.

Thanks to all!
