WormHeart -> Field trip brings college class to Nevada brothel (4/13/2008 11:03:06 AM)

This just hit the "weird world" section of a local paper.

quote:

Amouri was one of a dozen Randolph College students who toured the Chicken Ranch, a legal bordello in the desert 60 miles outside Las Vegas. Thursday’s class trip, which included seminars from the working girls, capped a course on American consumption and “the ideas that consume us.”

quote:

"We gave them all the option to either opt out or express reservations privately. No one did,” said Rodriguez, adding that he received no objections from parents or administrators.

How... odd!

Denmark is seen as pretty liberal, but I seriously doubt you could make a field trip to a brothel, without causing some noise! [8D]

Recently, Duke University hosted a "Sex Workers Symposium" and brought in stripers to discuss their trade. This at a "Methodist" school and also the place of the lacrose scandal.

The only scandal was the rush to judgment from a famed law school without any evidence who now owes these lads multimillions.

Okay, first things first

(A) Nevada is the only state to have legal prostitution... surprise!
(B) The World does as the world is... were there any Chrstians in that class, they could/should have opted out.
(C) This is yet another reason why I pray all night
(D) Much of America is consumed with the idea of "no strings sex", so I guess the field trip fit the class description.

Were the guys studying for their MBA's and doing research on the world's oldest profession/business?[8|]

My cousin graduated from this college in 1999 when it was still an all female school. The graduation ceremony was a very eye opening experience for me. The whole culture of the school was very socialy liberal. There were many same sex couples. When I read this news story, I was not suprised at all to find out the name of the school involved.

As if brothel's and "working girls" are an entirely American phenomenon!...it would be interesting to know how many 'non-Americans" find their way to the brothels, in comparison to Americans....

why not take a trip to The Netherlands? Or Bangkok? Or, many other places around the world?

How about a study on capitalism, free markets and democracy? Those are ideas that certainly 'consume" more people...and are what makes America unique, and far more successful than any other country on the planet....but, that would actually take 'brain power'....
(but, it could be argued that brothels are actually "capitalism" and "free markets" at work, i guess....)

Actually, prostitution is NOT the world's oldest profession. Taxonomy(naming animals) is, remember Adam?..after that came shepherding and land farming (remember Cain and Abel)..I could go on.

Anyway, regarding the OP..no wonder so many high school and college graduates are incompetent.[&:] Not even getting into the moral side of this, to me that's just time wasted that could have been spent learning math/science/ foreign language, etc. I guess that's kinda what Kerns family was saying.

The movie "Pretty Woman" painted a false picture of prositition. In depicting there is no pitfalls of the profession. I wonder how many abortions the women have had, how many STDs, how many are in a stable relationship?

And what does the Bible say about the chicken crossing the road or how many people it takes to screw in a lightbulb? In other words, it was a joke! You must be from Northern CA. They always take things to seriously up there too![;)]

BTW, that's another joke.
