relientkat -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/17/2008 8:05:40 PM)

People, People.... I started this thread to talk about RELIENT K!!!! Not disturbing bands like The Sex Pistols! Really guys, if you want to debate about who is punk and who isn't start your own thread!

Anyway... why debate about genre? I'm pretty sure three different people can all listen to a band and describe them differently. I've heard relient k be put into the pop, punk, pop-punk, pop-rock, rock, emo, emo-pop, emo-rock, alternative, Christian Rock, Christian Contemporary, mainstream, and Religious genres. Have I made my point?

Ok from now on this is about RK!

OK so RK is my fav band. I even have their demo cd! [sm=dance.gif]

Theyre still my #1 fave band. Thanks to the 4 cd and all thier eps.

There are 5 full length CD's not including the 2 Christmas albums (at least, I have 5 full-lengths)

1. Self titled (2000)
2. Anatomy of Tounge and Cheek (2001)
3. Two lefts... (2003)
4. Mmhmm (2004)
5. Five Score... (2007)

I also have only one of the EP's (Apathetic EP) and I have one of the Christmas albums (Deck the Halls, Bruise Your Hand)

So...I'm not sure what you said 4 CD's, unless it was a typo.

hawknelsonismyfriend -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/18/2008 12:41:10 PM)

I meant the 4 I liked. I hate 5 Score. That's why I put thanks to the 4 cds and eps. because without those I would have never become a fan. Trust me this is my relient k discoraphy.

1. All Work & No Play
2. 2000 ADD
3. Relient K
4. The Creepy EP
5. The Antomy of the Tonue In Cheek
6. Employee of the Month EP
7. Two Lefts Dont Make A Right...But Three Do
8. The Vinyl Countdown (Autographed)
9. Deck the Halls
10. Mmhmm
11. String Quartet Tribute
12. Be My Escape (Radio Edit Promo Single)
13. Apathetic EP
14. Five Score and Seven Years Ago
15. Five Score (DVD+CD Special Edition)
16. Must Have Done Something Right (Australian EP)

Right now Im trying to find the "Pirates Who Dont Do Anything" Single that comes with a bonus track of Larry singing breakdown.

Question:

I've never been to a RK show (although I actually have all their full length CDs although their Christmas CD's and Anatomy are my favorites) do people form a mosh pit?

hawknelsonismyfriend -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/18/2008 3:01:28 PM)

yeah, theres a mosh pit. Last time i saw them in concert though, matty t was playing the piano a lot, but there stillwas a mosh pit. haha. MxPx put on a better show though.

relientkat -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/18/2008 8:42:15 PM)

You know, I like the old school RK stuff... fun, goofy, mosh pit worthy. But I have to say that I appreciate their newer, more mature, more innocently poetic work, ie. Matt playing piano mostly. It kind of makes room for newer acts that are more mosh pit materiel. Like Eleventyseven. Their concert was the first one I'd went that a mosh pit started. And I have no idea how became a part of it. LOL

Anyway... I gotta love the piano... if anyone can rock the piano it would be Matty T.

Hey, does anyone have news about Davie leaving? Whats up with that? He was my favoritest drummer for the longest time.

Rocker4christ123 -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/20/2008 6:58:38 PM)

I think that the band maybe didn't mature soo much as it came into it's own !!Peter you are gonna hate me when i say this but, to me ... and this is strictly my OPINION, Rk in the beginnig well... they weren't mainstream persay but matty t's voice sounded exactly like every other punk/rock/alternative band out there .Yes thier lyrics set them apart sooo they were still different , then they went more ...pop-rockish and still matty t sounded.. generic almost ,but all the silliness and the amazingly unique lyrics set them apart !! Now Thier sound is more mainstream but... we are finally hearing what Matty T's voice really souds like and its very beautiful and special and unique and sooo i think even if thier basic sound is sorta generic now the vocals and lyrics have still continued to develop and set them apart as anything but generic !! Rk will ,i think , never be completly as much mainstream as it will be it's own entinty !!

Rocker4christ123 -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/20/2008 7:00:06 PM)

Ethan LUCK lol. [;)]

freakofnature -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/21/2008 10:01:53 AM)

I went to an RK show last May in Orlando at the HOB. Good show, don't recall seeing any pits open up. No Body Surfing thank goodness. Pretty good show overall tho. Smaller stage not a lot of room to get around and put a real show into it. Running around, jumping, fireworks. Again, good to see them tho. I am going to a Switchfoot show this Friday, my first SF, the first time they have been to this part of Florida.

RHardin15 -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/21/2008 10:37:48 AM)

I knew the new drummer played in the OC Supertones, but Wiki also says that he currently plays guitar in Demon Hunter... REALLY? Wow, that's cool!

hawknelsonismyfriend -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/21/2008 12:07:04 PM)

Ethan Luck also has a side project "My Red Hot Nightmare" that's also awesome. You can get 3 songs from 5 different side projects from Relient K, Supertones, Bleach, and Audio Adrenaline on the "My Other Band, Vol. 1" comp. that's pretty good.

Rocker4christ123 -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/21/2008 4:36:00 PM)

The relkientk concert i went too was pretty awesome they played sadie hawkins and in love with the 80's and then it fake snowed !!!switchfoot was really good too though !!

My cats name is really garfield too, and he looks and acts liek garfield from the comic. have you seen him?

Rocker4christ123 -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/21/2008 5:21:50 PM)

ur cat ? noooo .the comic ? yuppers !!

hawknelsonismyfriend -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/22/2008 5:21:21 PM)

Relient K has changed a LOT! They went from punk/pop to punk/rock to rock to pop/rock(this album). Seriously, stick with one or maybe even two music styles. This one has absolutely no punk and sounds very mainstream. I like a couple songs off of here, but Relient K can do so much better than this. Get Two Lefts or Mmhmm or Relient K or Tongue In Cheek, ANYTHING but Five Score.
