relientkat -> Relient K, Anyone? (4/14/2008 8:56:17 PM)

So, how does Relient K rate on your list of faves? And, while we're talking about them, answer these too if you wish: What's your favorite Relient K song? Relient K CD? Have you been among the fortunate ones to see the fab 5 in concert? Any other nuggets of information you want to share?

For me, Relient K is my favorite band. Pretty much. And I like a lot! Anyway, my fave CD of theirs is a tie between "Two Lefts Don't Make A Right" and "mmhmm". And I love the songs "I Am Understood?" and "Be My Escape". Sigh... I have yet to attend a Relient K concert. It's on my bucket list though. LOL

StephtheJCFREAK -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/14/2008 9:00:49 PM)

I like them, not my very favorite. I like the songs "Be My Escape", "Who I Am Hates Who I've Been" and who doesn't like "My Girlfriend".
I think I've seen them, I'm not sure, my dad says we have. I don't have any of their cds though.

Theyre my favorite band, my favorite song is pressing on, even though I like all of them. My favorite cd is tongue in cheek, but actually its more of a tie between their first 4. I dont like their new one, though. I think they turned to mainstream emo, but rks still my favorite band. I saw them in concert twice but that was after their fun pop-punk and turned emo, so matty t was boring playing a piano the whole time. Oh yeah, I have all their cds, ep, all work and no play, and even australian released promo ep/single. [sm=dance.gif]

1love1God1way -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/14/2008 9:44:59 PM)

They rank very low. I can't stand them. I liked their first cd, when it first came out, and nobody knew they existed. After that. . . gah.

jodavi -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/14/2008 9:53:23 PM)

My son really likes them. We took him to go see Relient K with Switchfoot last Fall. Switchfoot was awesome but I think Relient K was more entertaining. They did the theme from The Office...really fun.

LJ17 -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/14/2008 11:13:46 PM)

I am a Relient K fan. They make it on my top 5. I have never been to a Relient K concert. :( My favorite song..wow that is a hard one. I love all of theirs songs. "Two Lefts Don't Make A Right" would probably be my favorite cd and then their newest one.

sunshine4God -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/15/2008 12:14:43 AM)

I love The songs Who I am hates who I've been,Be my escape,and pressing on. I don't have any of their cds though and have never seen them in concert.Their music isn't really my style though some of their songs are awesome.

youthguybrett38 -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/15/2008 12:15:24 AM)

At one time, they were definitely my favorite band. My high school youth group LOVED them and we went and saw them every time they came into town. I do like their earlier stuff, "pressing on" is definitely what got me hooked to them. For those of you that haven't seen the music video for that song, it's definitely worth a watch and is a good show of what they were originally like.

RHardin15 -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/15/2008 8:12:28 AM)

I do enjoy Relient K, though I liked them better several years ago. I saw them in concert just after the release of "The Anatomy of Tounge in Cheek" which is also my favorite of their releases. I saw them again just after they released "Mmhmm" and I've seen them twice since they release "Five Score..." making a total of four times I've seen them. My favorite song is "Pressing On" since I really think that was the big hit that got them noticed by alot of people.

Lizzy_ard -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/15/2008 10:07:46 AM)

Relient K is one of my favorite bands. Probably my favorite album by them is "Two Lefts Don't Make A Right". Some of my fave songs..."Must Have Done Something Right" "Pink Tux to the Prom" "Which To Bury, Us or the Hatchet" "I So Hate Consequences" and "Pressing On".

howling wind -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/15/2008 10:13:37 AM)

I'd probably say Reliant K is a second rate MxPx, and MxPx is a second rate Green Day. Does that mean Reliant K is exponentially a fourth rate band?

Better yet, forget all that pop-punk garbage and listen to some real punk (Bad Brains, The Ramones, The Clash, Rancid, etc.)

freakofnature -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/15/2008 10:25:48 AM)

Relient K is actually in my top 5 as well, I have seen them in concert, prettty good, I enjoyed it, but not much of a show, I mean there is going to a concert and hearing a band play their songs, and then there is going to a show and seeing "a show." Otherwise, I know alot of people like their earlier works personally, I like the last two better, "Mmhmm" and "Five Score." I think it goes to "maturity" as an individual and as a band, and I like that in a band, if they keep putting out the same things then that gets old... (MXPX, I only have a couple of their CD's becuase it is basically all the same as it spans their entire career)

My favorite songs are:
1)"Deathbed"
2)"Devistation and Reform"
3)"Must have done something Right"
4"The Only Thing Worse Than Beating A Dead Horse Is Betting On One "
5)"Mood Rings"
6)"Trademark"
7)"Hoopes I Did It Again"
8)"Which To Bury, Us Or The Hatchet"
9)"This Week The Trend"
10)"I Celebrate The Day" (from "Let it snow...")

hawknelsonismyfriend -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/15/2008 12:59:12 PM)

to freakofnature: They didnt mature. Even Matty T said on their website I'm trying to write a bit different, lyrically. Oh and MxPx's music is not all the same. I have just about every CD, and each CD is different. Oh, and "I Celebrate the Day" is originally from "Deck the Halls, Bruise Your Hand". LOL

to howling wind: it's Relient K, not Reliant K. And MxPx is not a second rate Green Day. Green Day sucks and aren't even punk. MxPx is the best Christian punk band. Oh yeah, and Pop-Punk is my favorite genre of music. And Rancid is ska, and the clash suck.

Re-read my post and you'll see I never called Green Day a punk band - they are what is commonly referred to as "poseurs."

Although Rancid has a few tracks that are ska influenced, I still consider them a punk band (albeit heavily influenced by The Clash).

As for The Clash, they have probably been the biggest influence on more punk bands than any other band. And I'm sure "London Calling" will be selling oodles of copies while Relient K and Hawk Nelson gather dust in the cut-out bins.

Just say no to pop-punk...[:@]

Hawknelson-Dude! Sorry man. Wow. I must school you though on a couple of subjects, I will be easy seeing as though you are young:

1) Growing up is hard to do, but it happens to all bands. "Trying to write a bit differentl lyrically" is called maturity. Sorry dude! Otherwise, even musically, they have matured in their writing, and that is not a bad thing.

2) MXPX is punk (power pop punk or whatever) it is however the same genre they have stayed in forever, I could listen to the first MXPX and the last MXPX blindfolded with both ears tied behind my back and know that it is still MXPX. Nothin' personal...and I'm not saying that is a bad thing either, to me, it actually shows a lack of maturity, otherwise known as a "formula for success!"

3) "I celebrate the day" is originally on the "Deck the Halls..." CD yes, so I guess to step over the bounds of your knowledge on the subject seemed to be offensive to you, please accept my apologies. However, it is on the "Let it snow Baby..." cd as well, I am not concerned over the symantics of the matter.

hawknelsonismyfriend -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/15/2008 1:27:30 PM)

They matured from "Relient K" to "Mmhmm" because they kept their "punk" sound. THen when 5 Score came out they changed direction to mainstream emo/pop. AKA SELLING OUT. And nothing is wrong with bands where they have their own distinct sound. RK used to have that. But now they sound like evry other mainstream alt band out there.

Rocker4christ123 -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/15/2008 1:44:48 PM)

Well... yeah but lets wait and see i mean now that daves gone and ethan is in maybe idk but lets not boot them off of our top 5 yet !!

hawknelsonismyfriend -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/15/2008 1:50:23 PM)

Theyre still my #1 fave band. Thanks to the 4 cd and all thier eps.

Rocker4christ123 -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/15/2008 2:14:28 PM)

I almost died when i met Matty T it was freezing and like after midnight but i got 2 talk 2 him about like his inspiratons and when he got started writing music and stuff !!! he is soo sweet and i looove his voice !!! It just has something rare and kinda special !!

You give Green Day way too much credit.

I agree.

relientkat -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/16/2008 9:18:46 PM)

Sheesh! I had no IDEA i was starting such a controversial thread! Thank you Kath for setting these people on the correct topic.

I particularly took notice of what freakofnature was saying about Relient K's maturity. I mean, I LOVE their first 3, don't get me wrong. But I also really appreciate the depth on the their newer two CDs. They still keep it fun (like tracks "High of 75" on mmhmm, and "I Must Have Done Something Right" on Five Score...), but the depth they provide is amazing.
And I really don't think they sold out at all with Five Score.... So what if it's reaching a mainstream market? They aren't in any way ashamed of or hiding their faith (check out "Deathbed"). I mean, yes, music is supposed to glorify God, but is it really a horrible thing to listen to just plain ol' clean and fun music?

Remember, this is just my oppinion. :-)

Sorry young man, neither RK or Hawk Nelson are punk. As one whose best friends in high school were part of the first punk movement (I was more into HM) so I heard ALL the music and those bands are bubble gum pop. Start with "The Ramones" move to the "Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, The Cramps, etc." Even "The Red Hot Chili Peppers" first album was more punk than those guys.

BTW, I am not advocating any of these bands lyrical message. Anarchy and rebellion isn't really a Christian message. Well, anarchy isn't.

hawknelsonismyfriend -> RE: Relient K, Anyone? (4/17/2008 6:45:36 PM)

Its calle d"pop-punk" and yes I'v heard songs from the Ramones, Sex Pistols, and Dead Kennedys, and even have some on my ipod. bubble gum pop would be hilary duff, hannah montana, and stuff my little sister listen to. Oh so I listened to more of thwe Clash, they dont suck, my bad. I just herd one song from them, and it sounded like they couldnt play their instruments. It didt sound like the fast punk Im used to anyway. I just heard "straight to hell" and hated it.
