I know a married couple who are Erin and Arin as well. So frustrating talking to them sometimes! But yeah, I think I am biased against any bad ex's names. But if they're good enough they can overcome my bias! [:)]

Now I'm wondering if women just don't like my name. Maybe that is my problem!

I like the name Broyce. [:D]

Cool! From now on I am only going to introduce myself as broyce! [:)]

WaitingforBoaz -> RE: Dislike their name? (4/16/2008 7:28:08 PM)

Okay then, is that not your real name?

betterisoneday -> RE: Dislike their name? (4/16/2008 7:28:09 PM)

I don't necessarily dislike my boyfriend's first name, but it's the same as a cousin's and a couple of other people I cannot stand so I just try not to think of them... His last name though, well if we do get married it's a good thing I love the guy.[:o]

I work with a couple who are Christina and Christopher and both go by Chris[8|]
I don't usually mind names as long as the parent's gave some thought to it. One of my friends was born in April in the morning and she's named April Dawn. (It fits her though)

Indeed? It seems more than one set of parents had a sick sense of humour.

Or was it Iva Hogg? It's been so many years....

Ooooh...never thought of it like that! *blush*

I like your first name too. I knew a guy like in high school and just it was so...neat. [:D]

tlims -> RE: Dislike their name? (4/16/2008 10:41:54 PM)

Have been reading, thinking & laughing... Ok, here we go.

Had a friend named... Maxine. Ok, so far so good. Her middle name was Rhoda. Her last name Trout... thankfully she married out of that one.

My name, is ok. Nothing overly special and a bit common... but not bad either.

Most of my children were named after family members... no jr or anything like that -- my children don't always appreciate it, but they do know the whys & who about their names...

[&o] Sadly... I am one also one of those who, without thinking, allowed my ex to name youngest son. It's a Biblical name -- It's a wonderful name... we just didn't realize that many use the same spelling for a girl's name! Ok, so maybe we were silly not to check out some of that before we named him.... Arg!! .......what is it about hind sight??? Yes, I really do often wonder if I have scarred my son for life... my only excuse?? It is a strong Biblical name... and, IT WAS NOT INTENTIONAL!!

And last, I had a very wise high school PE teacher, who told us girls.... "Girls, you marry a man because you love him, not because of his name"

yep. Her married name was Perkypile.

JustJeannie -> RE: Dislike their name? (4/16/2008 10:47:01 PM)

I don't think I've posted in here, so here goes...

I didn't like my own first name when I was younger (think "I Dream of Jeannie"). Yeah, got that ALL the time. Wasn't funny anymore after the first couple of dozen times. Also, my last name drove me nuts as a kid. (FORD) There was a boy in my 5th or 6th grade class that called me "Jeannie Chevy". UH HUH. Hilarious right? Well, as I got older I was thankful my parents didn't get creative. I could very well have been Model T or something.

BTW, there are a Ronald MacDonald and a Bob Barker in my town.

Then there are the parents that thought they were being cute when naming their daughters...
The Greene family has 2 girls named Jade and Emerald. The Dollar family has a girl named Silver.
I just think that is mean.

OK, this is getting too weird..we recently had an Aaron and Erin in our church too..they moved on because he is military..but I can't believe that's THREE of us on here now, that know a couple like that..I'm starting to wonder if it's the same one! After all, military folks travel all over!

This is a truth. M's maiden name had 5 letters, one syllable and everyone could pronounce it at first glance. Then she married me. 10 letters, 4 syllables and unpronounceable without training.

I guess she loved me[:)]

Tsk, tsk. Poor girl. Now, that's love!

I just love my first name. I honestly can't think of one I'd rather have. How blessed is that!

As for my last name, I kept my ex's last name after the divorce. It never occurred to me to do otherwise. (I'd been married for 15 years, and that's the name everybody knew me by anyway.) And quite honestly, I like it better than my maiden name anyway.

BlessedAngel1983 -> RE: Dislike their name? (4/17/2008 10:02:05 AM)

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet".

So I used to hate my name growing up, it was so uncommon. Now I like it, because people say my first name and people say "yeah, I know her". My last name has much to be desired because I was tortured as a child when people would pronounce it like a popular television show.

I know the feeling! I went from a looong 11 letter name that no one could pronounce (and I don't know why; it was only two words mashed together! [8|] ) to a shorter 5 letter name. Only...it rhymes with my first name! [sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif]
Oh well! Can't win them all I guess. [8D]

broyce1981 -> RE: Dislike their name? (4/17/2008 11:36:58 AM)

I had somebody try and convince me that I should find somebody named Rose to marry. Since my last name is Royce, it would make her name sound like a luxury automobile. That would be one classy lady! [:)]

WaitingforBoaz -> RE: Dislike their name? (4/17/2008 11:45:12 AM)

I really did not like my maiden name. Other than being teased about it when I was a kid, it got butcher constantly. No one could pronounce it. No one in the family really liked it, so they kept changing the pronunciation to make it more tolerable. It never helped.
I love my married name. And because a famous person in my state has the same name. I occasionally reap the benefits.[;)]

That would be quite the novelty at first, but I imagine it would develop into a pain pretty quickly!

Well, my SIL's first name is the name of another luxury car. Should ask her how she likes having the names of two different cars!

It's also the name of a soul, funk and disco band

9drtr -> RE: Dislike their name? (4/17/2008 8:23:27 PM)

The only name that really irritates me is my own surname when used as a given name.

And I can't figure out how so many people mispronounce it. It has five letters, two syllables and follows the standard rules of English pronunciation, and one person in ten still gets it wrong.

Tinkerbell_ -> RE: Dislike their name? (4/17/2008 8:30:48 PM)

I can do better than that. My nickname is only 4 letters long. But because the last letter is different than the norm, they always mispronounce it. *blink* It's ridiculous. [8|]

9drtr -> RE: Dislike their name? (4/17/2008 9:30:28 PM)

I admit, I'm curious.

Tinkerbell_ -> RE: Dislike their name? (4/17/2008 9:38:24 PM)

I go by Katy but people always call me Kathy because they see the K and the T and the Y. [:D]

ladioffaith -> RE: Dislike their name? (4/17/2008 9:43:07 PM)

My cousin, DANIELLE is now engaged to her boyfriend, DANIEL.

They'll be "the Dannys" the rest of their lives ...

Grace-N-Mercy -> RE: Dislike their name? (4/17/2008 9:56:13 PM)

Can you imagine being a celebrity's child? You never know what your name will be. [:D] Legal names, like Little Pixie, Peaches Honeyblossom, Prince Michael [:'(], Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily, etc. HERE'S a list I found.
