After months of discussion and auditions, even accelerated because of the writer's strike, pan-European television network RTL (which owns the entire Goodson-Todman library) and CBS announced Password will return to broadcast for the first time since 1989.

Regis Philbin will host the show, which RTL said would be based on all versions of the show that have aired -- the 1963 (CBS, Ludden), 1971 (ABC, Ludden), 1979 (NBC, Ludden, both Narz brothers, Cullen), and 1984 (NBC, Convy) versions of the game show. Ironically, only the Narz brothers are still living of the game show franchise's hosts.

The debut is set for June 1.

I watched that when I was a kid -- one of the Ludden versions. It will be neat to see it again if they don't change the basic format too much.
