What a wealth of theology in John 3.16!

God SO loved the world...

The measure of the love of God is seen in the greatness of the One Who was given. (BB Warfield)

"...that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

God Gave. We receive. So simple a child can understand.

Thank you Jesus!

The all time greatest gift ever given, and He gave it to us! [:)]

A love beyond our understanding.

Yes, the Lord Jesus is, as Horatius Bonar wrote; 'the gift of gifts, all other gifts in one'.

Precious Lamb that was slain! The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Oh, what love! What wondrous love! Who can fathom it???

faroukfarouk -> RE: John 3.16 (4/17/2008 1:03:08 PM)

Amen. "Herein in love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins.'

(1 John)

As He hung upon that cruel cross, His arms were wide open, embracing all who would come to Him...

His arms are still wide open, longing to embrace lost, hurting, frightened souls.

~Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls
~

Matthew 11:28-29

Jesus Christ of Nazareth

'God now commandeth all men everywhere to repent." (Acts). The call is still going out, it's still the Day of grace.

Indeed!

The ultimate unfathomable act of what love God has for us. This scripture speaks volumes and has taught me so much. One of the things it has taught me is that true love doesn't look like a mushy fuzzy feeling, it's an action. He loved so much He gave. Thank you Lord Jesus!

faroukfarouk -> RE: John 3.16 (4/17/2008 2:40:27 PM)

Yes, unfathomable.

"Love unknown,...Love to the loveless shown, that I might lovely be.", as the hymn says.

I love that! What hymn is that?

It starts:

"My song is love unknown
My Saviour's love to me,
Love to the loveless shown
That I might lovely be.

But who am I?
That my blessed Lord
Should take frail flesh
And die?"

One or two of the words may be wrong, but if you look up the first line in google.com, etc. the whole hymn should pull up from somewhere. See if you can find the whole hymn on the Web.

Take care.

There's a huge amount of deep theology in that verse.

YW.

We need to be doctrinal in our reading of the Bible: it really does teach us truth.

JMCrwd -> RE: John 3.16 (7/7/2008 10:35:44 PM)

as I have heard several times it is the greatest love story ever told.

faroukfarouk -> RE: John 3.16 (7/7/2008 10:37:14 PM)

Exactly.

For God SO loved...

A commentator said that the love was measured in the greatness of the One Who was given.

SO loved indeed.

(Joh 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

I have taught this verse by switching the words "believeth" and "loved".

faroukfarouk -> RE: John 3.16 (7/10/2008 10:33:43 PM)

seagullplayer:

Interesting.

Of course, the love of God is unique; John in his first Epistle says, "We love him, because he first loved us". And the love of the Father toward His redeemed creatures is because the Father sees repentant believers in His Son.
