How about "knee high to a grasshopper"? Anyone ever heard of that one?

And I'd have to own a really, really big ranch to board all those horses y'all are talking about... I'd also be in hog heaven!

Pais is making new sayings of her own, by the way. She likes to say that she is "fuller than a tick on a hog on a farm" rather than "fuller than a tick on a dog"...

My grandmother used a lot of these expressions, so I learned them well.

Mine too . . . (er . . . except it was my mother . . . )

Or "happier than a Junebug in a cow patty..."

Yup!

Okay, who knows what "Bread & butter" means (other than the obvious of course)?

Ta-ta for now, James! Hope ya have a great day!

Pammy, are you meaning like bread and butter = the stuff that life is made of? Like the consequences of our actions and the things we get outta life? I've heard it used in a couple of sayings, meaning a couple of different things...

Melissa, I mean as something people would say. They're walking along, on a sidewalk, say, and come to a pole of some sort. If one goes around and the other doesn't, my mother used to say you have to say "bread & butter" or you'd have bad luck. It's an old superstition. And sometimes my mother was just silly.

Ahhhh - I've never heard it used that way. Thanks for telling us about it. Here, I remember trying my hardest to time my steps just right when I was walking down sidewalks and stuff as a kid - because "step on a crack, break your mom's back"... And I didn't wanna hurt my mommy, you know?

Sometimes that avatar gave an attitude to my posts that wasn't really supposed to be there...so I changed it out to the welcome sign on my front door.

I suppose my current avatar could create some interesting thoughts if I started a "is war ok" threads....

That's been done. As entertaining as it was at the time, I don't think it would be very entertaining now.
