ORIGINAL: dbmurray Daniel Mount has confirmed that Smith is leaving the Imperials to become a minister of music. See: http://www.southerngospelblog.com/archives/859 In the entire history of the Imperials, the longest the group has ever gone with no changes at any vocal position is five years. This most recent lineup matched that record. Sherman Andrus was with the group from 1971 to 1976, while the other three singers (Armond Morales, Terry Blackwood, and Jim Murray) were there before and after. Russ Taff and David Will joined in 1976. Taff left in 1981. Shannon Smith, Jason Morales, and Jeremie Hudson were already in the group when Ian Owens joined in 2003, so with Smith leaving, that's another five year stretch. In the last five years of Southern Gospel, there's been very few non-family quartets that haven't experienced at least one change. Triumphant is one. A five year stretch is impressive. It's no secret that I'm an Imperials fan. I'm hoping to see them add someone who will make them as strong as ever. I don't expect Russ Taff to get back in the saddle, but wouldn't that be something if he did? We can dream. [:)] I wouldn't mind seeing Scott Allen get the job. He kinda got the rug jerked from under him with the Mercy's Mark thing. He's a hidden talent!
