For the love of all that is holy a war in Iraq had nothing ever to do with defeating the Iraqi army- it took us less than a month. You knew that it would, I knew that it would so why is the defeat of the Iraqi army even an issue? This had everything to do with what goes on after Saddam was deposed. You are making the exact same mistake this administration's planners made. Except for Dick Cheney who got it right in Iraq 1 but decided to change his mind this time around.

Ummm... Where did I say the war was all about the defeat of the Iraqi army???? We didn't go in to defeat the Iraqi army. I'm sorry, but what are you talking about?

As far as the "mistakes" made, there are 2 parts to every war: the actual war, then the stabilizing part. AS I STATED in my post, the stabilizing part is often the most difficult and time consuming part. It's sad that too many Americans can only stomach the first part and don't have the patience for the second part. When we went into Iraq, I knew the first part would happen. I was surprised at how quickly our men and women were able to accomplish that task, but they did it. I also went into this knowing that the most difficult part (and to be honest the part that I truly wasn't sure could be successful although I still believed it was the right thing to do) would be securing the peace. Again, I think we've had some really rough patches, but our men and women over there are doing an amazing job in a very difficult region of the world. And things are on the road to success which is proof of how great our military is - we can fight a non-traditional war and adapt to challenges.

But, as always seems to happen in threads that are supposed to be about veterans, this turns into a "how stupid Bush was" thread which does absolutely zero to support our troops and it's making me mad, so I'm going to bow out now.

Thank you all who have served and may God bless you!

You are the one that started about the administration's leading the war when I commented that a difference between this war and the second world war was the people were encouraged to get involved - needed or not. (Air raid wardens? Please)

You brought the administrations running of the war first and it is off topic. You have done the right thing.

I do see that and I have seen that since we started the conflict. The only thing that can stop our military is our politicians and leaders. What they've accomplished to this point they did so in spite of the administration's leadership not because of it.

Very true.

Have you guys seen the video of the barracks at Ft. Hood. There are some interesting comments on that YouTube page from soldiers.

I haven't followed this thread, but I'd like to say that veterans should be treated with respect. As far as their living conditions, the government shouldn't be allowed to get away with things that the law forbids landlords to get away with.
