Out of all of those SG LP auctions I won on Thursday, I got the first package today. It was an assortment of 20 Gospel LP's. One of those is the Rebels Quartet 20th Anniversary LP, which features a young Ron Booth as their tenor singer!

I have one from that period of their history, too!

I just got the last batch of records today from the auctions I won last week. I now have most of the Blackwood Brothers LP's from the 1950s. The bad thing is I'm working nights, it's a twelve hour shift, I just started 30 minutes ago, and there is nothing in the dispatch center on which I can play LP's!

On the other hand, I'm off the weekend and should have plenty of time to listen to them all.

I'm listening to the Blackwood Brothers Hymn Sing LP from 1956 right now. It sounds fantastic! You would expect a 52 year old LP to have scratchy sounds, skips, etc. but this one doesn't. It sounds brand new!

By the way, this BB lineup consists of James and Cecil Blackwood, Bill Shaw, J.D. Sumner, and Jack Marshall. They were pretty good!

I went to my local used record store today and picked up 26 SG albums today. I got No Shortage by the Imperials from 1975, The Florida Boys Sing Gospel Hits Volume II, Dottie Rambo Sings Spitituals from 1973, 2 LP's by Reba Rambo, 3 LP's by the Rambos, 7 Chuck Wagon Gang LP's, and 11 LP's by Jimmy Swaggart. I know he fell out of favor with SG fans because of his past indescretions but he was a major force in SG for a while. He even won the Singing News Fan Award for Favorite Musician in 1974.

Jeff,

Jimmy Swaggart is still preaching here in Baton Rouge, but to a much smaller congregation. He still is on TV (local cable) and owns a radio network. The flagship radio station is local, and plays his services 24/7. He has gotten pretty elderly (80-something), but still has a pretty good, really rich, baritone voice.

zzzzzzzzzzzz

A friend gave me 2 more Jimmy Swaggart LP's today. Well, she actually gave me 3 but I already had one of them.

I really am going to have to add a room on to the house if I keep getting these old LP's!

My favorite place for records is Goodwill. The one near here has had all kinds of really great shape records from a radio station. I just got the Kingsmen Live! Naturally (or is it Naturally Live!? I'm at work right now, so I'm not sure). I have about 100 records now that I've purchased through Goodwill, plus a few from eBay and that my parents had.

Which reminds me...has anyone heard of a group called the "Envoys"? I'm not sure if they were a local group or a professional group, but I've got about 5 or 6 of their records, and they sound pretty good. I particularly like that on the back of one of the albums is the following explanation (I paraphrase): "Envoy: Pronounced 'AHN-voi' What is an 'envoy'?"

We have a local used record store that I try to visit every now and then but I never thought about going to Goodwill. We have two of those stores pretty close to here. I may visit one of them this evening after dinner.

Well, I went to the closest of the two Goodwill stores. No SG records. Oh well.

They aren't a bad group!

An "envoy" is another word for messenger or representative.

For that particular album, $44 was towards the cheap end. It's been one of the few Cathedrals projects I haven't been able to get yet.

Daniel,
I have an old album I ordered free from Rex Humbard Ministries when I was a kid. It has the Cathedrals on it and was from a program in Hawaii I think. George wasn't with them yet I don't believe. Just Glenn, Danny Koker and Bobby Clark I think. Hadn't thought about it maybe being worth anything now. Maybe? I'll have to dig it out someday and take another look at it.

Over the past week I have picked up 9 more Cathedrals LPs: Cathedral Trio When The Saints Go Marching In; Land of the Bible; I Saw the Light; Right On; One At A Time; Favorites Old and New; Then I Found Jesus; Travelin' Live; and Better Than Ever.

I am now down to where I only need 12 (maybe 13) Cathedrals projects until I have their complete collection, not counting compilations of course. The reason I said maybe 13 is that I am not sure if Live in Nashville was released as an album/CD or if it was video only. Does anyone know for sure?

It was a CD, too, but it's not much. It's probably the oddest item in the Cathedrals discography—live performances from various concepts—even various lineups!—put together on one CD packaged as though it was actually recorded on one night. Then a choir was overdubbed to the point where it's equal with or louder than the group's vocals...

I figured you would be the one to ask, Daniel! I knew I should have just sent you a PM instead of posting the question on here!

Thanks for the info! Now I have to try to find it.

That is the only Cathedrals project I'd ever tell you to get just to hear how bad it is!

'Course, it's not entirely bad. The Cathedrals couldn't release a bad album if they tried. But when a choir is over-dubbed, you're dealing with different lineups, etc., etc., it's more a curiosity than anything else.

Yes, it could certainly be worth something.

Daniel, an Introducing The Cathedral Trio album went for $76 last week on ebay. I wanted it but not for that much! That's a lot more than the $44 the previous one went for.

I'm not surprised.

Fortunately, the cost of most of the other Cathedrals albums has gone way down.
